  1. Don't you have to have depth in order to keep it. Many of the Bills Starters would be back-ups on other teams, and many of their depth players wouldn't be found on another teams 53-man roster. lol...kinda joking, but then again after the past several years...I don't know?
  2. I think Levi Brown would clear waivers for the practice squad. You have to remember we drafted him in the 7th round and nobody else wanted him to that point or they would have selected him. He has not done anything in scrub time in any of the preseason games to warrant another team's interest. Also James Hardy didn't earn a roster spot in that 4th game. He is a lazy route runner, drops a fair amount of balls, and is outworked and outplayed by free agent undrafted players like Nelson (maybe even D. Roosevelt as well). If they keep Hardy, they will keep him for his physical attributes and potential, but not because of anything that he has done to date. Otherwise, I agree with most of what you are saying and think you did a good job in your analysis.
  3. I don't know anything about Urbik as well, but now that Doug Whaley came over to the Bills from the Steelers...He probably knows a great deal about Urbik, and has the clout within the organization to get something done if he feels Urbik is worth pursuing.
  4. Since it seems to be the consensus and well established that the Bills particularily T. Edwards struggles against the 3-4 defense, I would like to know if anyone knows which teams play the 3-4 on our schedule. I am pretty sure all the divison opponents do and if that's the case we may be in trouble in that corner. So who else plays the 3-4 on our 2010 schedule?
  5. The Bills/Cincy game (preseason game #3) should go a long way in giving us fans an idea just how good or bad things will be in the upcoming season. I believe Cincy is a little better team than us, and their record from last year shows that. It will be interesting to see if the Bills can keep pace with Cincinatti. The first half of the game should be our starting units versus Cincys. Trent Edwards is suppose to start the first half as well as our QB. It'll be intereting to see if Trent follows his past tendancy of avoiding passing attempts downfield. I will be watching Trent closely, analyzing his decision making processes, his footwork, and throwing motion. Trent Edwards to me reminds me of a young Joe Ferguson. I was young when I watched Fergie so maybe I'm wrong. Ferguson used to get discouraged easily when things go wrong. I used to see him put his head down sometimes. He steadily seemed to get a little better, never great, but a decent QB and he seemed like a humble guy. Hopefully, Trent will continue to mature as a QB and team leader. I also will be interested in seeing what Chan Gailey will do in the first half if the situation of 4th down and inches presents itself. Will he have his offense try to draw the other team's defense offsides (once again) or will he take advantage of the opportunity and go for it on 4th down? I would hate to see the pattern of lacking confidence in the offense and punting once again, which to me projects the offense as a liability. Will C.J. Siller run well again and get another touchdown? Will his performace inspire the Bills to trade Lynch or worse yet Jackson. Jackson is the more marketable running back. Coming off a 1000 yard season, caught a bunch of passes, except he's older than lynch and may not have as much tread life left as M. Lynch. Will Joique Bell have another productive performance? If so, would the Bills cut him or risk him clearing waivers to put on the practice squad? Besides Lee Evans will one of the Wide Receivers break out from the pack? Stevie Johnson, James Hardy, Roscoe Parrish, Chad Jackson? Too bad about M. Easley. He was having a nice preseason and I wish he would stick around. Will Aaron Maybe Maybin please stand up and show yourself! Is Maybin in trouble? Will he even make the team? C. Ellis is outperforming him so far. Maybin thought he was something getting a sack on a fourth stringer last week..woopie! So what do you think we should look for from this game? What's your prediction? Do you think game 3 will be the best indicator of how the Bills will be in the 2010 regular season? What Bills will be on your list of first cuts? Any big name cuts/surprises? Maybin, Brohm, Fitz, Hardy? Big Game that will have roster implications, and give you insight on the upcoming 2010 season! Finally...my prediction is: Cincy 24 Buffalo 20
  6. If that's the case I think Fitzpatrick is the odd man out of here! That's fine with me! Personally I would've just kept Brohm & Brown and picked up a FA and traded for a QB.
  7. I'm not anywhere close to sure that he is, but I know Fitzpatrick's limitations for sure! Remember one of the reasons we're hanging onto Trent Edwards is that Chan Gailey has the reputation or resurrecting previously failed QB's careers. Maybe, JP Lossman is the one with that potential? He was more of a gunslinger than Trent is? We don't need a timid QB like Trent Edwards. I'm not so sure we want Lossman, but hopefully the coaching staff is doing it's research on him to see if he's servicable. Hopefully the scouts and coaches are also looking at other options for QB, including other teams QB's that are cut, developing Brohm or Levi Brown, drafting a QB high in next years draft, or trades. I think the most likely scenarion is to draft a QB next year with their 1st round selection. I don't think they are bad enough to get a top 3 pick, but I think they should be able to muster a pick between 5-8 range. I don't know if they will have the cahonas to make a big splash in the draft by using their first round pick on a QB ?? I thought that having an opportunity to take Jimmy Claussen in the second round was worth the risk, considering they could have got him cheaper than if they signed him in the first round. There was good value in making the pick with the potential for high reward. No givens with QB's, but at some point you have to take that risk and the Bills have not been willing to take that risk since drafting J.P. Lossman. So to be able to get a player that may still have NFL potential for practically nothing is a low risk with the potential for high reward. Even though I don't think it would work out well, I think it is a no-brainer to at least give it a test drive for a month or so and see if he still has a NFL future! But being the Bills, a no-brainer means that they won't do it...just like drafting Bryan Orakapo DE over Aaron Maybin was a no-brainer, the Bills instead took the road not taken by most NFL teams and drafted the smaller player, that statistically offered a little less, with a shorter resume of college success, and like most of their drafts they probably failed miserably once again.
  8. It quickly hit me when reading this that I'm not sure that Trent ever had enough fire to produce the end product of ashes!! It also strikes me funny when you mention about Trent referring to his "career in Buffalo", What career? Don't you need to be a veteran to earn that stature? It seems as though the Bills are holding "pin the tale on the donkey" games each year to decide it's QB competition, and between injuries and being unseated by Fitszpatrick last year, what would justify Edwards actually having a career with Buffalo. As far as B. Brohm goes, he's only a "fresh" choice here, because if you asked a Packers fan to summarize Brohm's potential as a NFL QB it may get ugly fast! Castoffs, losers, draft reaches, coaching, and injuries have all contributed to making the Bills who they are! Not to mention Ralph's influence on personnel decisions, Tom Modrak's unworthy presence, and not having a team capable of winning more than 5 games this year! Look for about 3 wins and that's a big if when considering we have a ton of injuries already and lack depth in most positions! Don't get me wrong..I love supporting the Bills, but they really are a lousy team heading in the wrong direction. Next year's draft can change that opinion, but each year I see them being cute in the draft and overlooking the obvious! Like Bryan Oarakapo DE, and instead they drafted A. Maybing last year. This year drafting Spiller when we really needed a QB and a OLT !! They let the needs slip through their fingers and drafted at a position of strength? This team is run very poorly and on the cheap when possible...Here we go the Indy games coming on and I'm going to predict the score now before it happens. Indy 31 Buffalo 17 But it isn't as close as it sounds with a late garbage touchdown!! Brohm played just well enough not to get canned nor take the number one role...Now hopefully I'm wrong!!!!!!!! Go Bills!
  9. You are so right!! I kept switching between the game and some home karaoke! The way they played I am glad I did, and even though I couldn't sit and watch the game in it's entirety I was better prepared for karaoke last friday evening! But if my job included conducting an intelligent discussion of the game and the state of the Bills I would feel compelled to watch every minute of the game in order to be fully prepared prior to talking about it! Each year it seems that WGR 550 and me have a bigger barrier between us. I was actually a WGR fantatic going back to when WBEN used to have an active roll in the Buffalo sports seen many years ago! I also used to like Chuck Dickerson when it came to Bills discussions. He can be a little crude, but nobody did it better and was more honest about the Bills! These idiots on WGR cover everything but sports on many days. I don't turn sports radio on so I can hear about american idol ! favorite pies! favorite movies! favorite actors! and all the other stupid crap they have on there. I primarily want to hear about the Bills, and then the Sabres, then the rest of the NFL, and the NHL. I don't care about golf, but understand that some others do and that's fine, and I don't care if these guys hate the yankees or not ( I like 'em). I also don't care about how poor and cheap Howard is as it is the root of some of their stupid discussions. Newsflash WGR!!! Nobody cares about Howards finances and it's (CHEAP) fill of valuable airtime! I don't know how this sorry bunch won the Marconi Award? It must not really be such a big deal if WGR won this award. I would rather listen to Jason Smit with ESPN on a late weekend night than our own local guys! We barely have a hometown sports station anymore!
  10. Maybe there is a "loser ghost" that transports itself from one Bill's coach to another! G. Williams~Mularkey~Jauron~Gailey yikes! Hope this isn't a sign of what's to come this season! I was predicting 5-11 this season and bumped it up to 6-10 considering the pace of training camp. Now, I am revising my prediction based on the coaching traits displayed, injuries, lack of depth (and lack of quality starters), and the difficulty of the schedule. My new 2010 season prediction is 4-12 and it's tempting to lower it to 3-13, but I'll wait until we play the Indy Colts on Thursday. That should be a fun game..lol Okay optimists out there..tell me how it's just the pre-season and that the Bills are going to be a much improved team, because I'm starting to think this season is going right down the johnny flusher fast!
  11. I agree for the most part..Personally, I think Lynch is a bad apple that only spreads his bad attitude to other players. I think that we would have to bunch lynch and a draft choice to get a player like McNeil or whatever the OLT. Playing devils advocate even though I don't care for Lynch I think he is a very talented RB who is underachieving. But, based on recent activity and behavior the Bills would have to probably include a 4th round draft pick or higher to sweeten the pot. I think the Bills screwed up once again, by releasing Aaron Schobel when there is legitimate interest in him by a few teams including New England. If we could have gotten a 4th or even 5th round pick for him which I think we could've gotten a 5th no problem...that would enable us to ship over a 4th or 5th round pick with Lynch for McNeal. There are no difinitives here as I don't have the inside track on what Schobel may do. He may retire and not consider another team like Houston or New England, and there is nothing saying that any other team would want to make a trade with us for one of their OLT's. I know earlier in the year everyone was talking about Gaither. I don't know what happened with that idea, but he must have obviously reported to camp. That may still be something to consider if your the Bills. I wish I could GM the team just for one year...I think I could make some excellent decisions in which I think they have been lacking for the most part. I didn't agree with the Draft and still am in disbelief of the '09 draft where they could've gotten Orakapo instead of Maybin. There are no guarantees that I wouldn't fall on my face neither, but I guarantee that the Bills organization would be no worse off than they are now, and that is embarrasing as these people like Modrak, former Bills guy (Guy), have been around here for a long time with little to nothing to show for it. Hopefully, NIX and Whaley will overshadow whatever input Modrak may add in the years that follow. All that being said, I have been predicting the Bills to be a 5-11 team since January. I am going to bump it up by one win as I think that this training camp is being done better than years past. I like that they are wearing pads, stirring it up, and practices are much longer. On the negative side, they still have Trent Edwards as their starting QB and don't have a true #2 wide receiver. Not even considering the other shortcomings on the roster I think this will hurt the Bills in the upcoming season. I'd almost prefer the Bills to be the worst team and get the #1 pick, but I think their defense will be good enough where they will pick between #5-10 next draft. Appreciate having the opportunity to jump in and out of the topic at hand and I'm sorry bout that, but with 3 young kids in the house I squeeze what's on my mind when I can with regards to the Bills. Go Bills !!!! (I'll be hoping for 10-6 though..)
  12. How many times does one have to go through the ringer to realize the results will be the same? Trent Edwards is always great at this time of the year, and expectations are always high! New coaches, new schemes, some new players, blah, blah, blah= same results! I think it's a lot easier for Trent facing his own defensive players vice a real opponent, and the team mood is good seeing that they haven't lost a game yet. The weather is nice etc..... Do I think Trent will start his first game on fire, and have a hot hand? Yes, I do...He started a few years ago with 4 wins! I think the opponents they play though are more talented and don't think the Bills will start out with a winning record. But watch out!! Probably 4 or 5 games into the season...Do not be surprised (I expect it..) if Trent Edwards does a downward spiral, gets injured because he has a hard time sensing defensive pressure off the edge, or begins to revert back to his old habits of opting for the short range receivers or tightends rather than throwing down the field. Trent Edwards historically has a tough time in cold weather, in rain, sleet, wind, foggy conditions, or when facing a 3-4 defense including the entire AFC east. He also struggles against winning teams, and away games! Most of the sports world, at least sources like ESPN, The Sporting news, and other publications seem to collectively agree that the Bills will suffer through a dismal year that should render a 2011 Nfl Draft selection in the top 5 picks! I don't think it will be as bad as that, I do think the defense has some reedeming qualities with upcoming players like Jairus Byrd, and a couple of good FA acquisitions. I think the Bills will do better in the second half of the year, giving them hope for 2011. I think it will be obvious once again after 2010 that the Bills need to upgrade the QB, OLT, and WR positions which should have been properly addressed this past off-season. If nothing else this season gives Chan Gailey and Buddy Nix the opportunity to evaluate exactly where this team is at (which I believe I already know..) My 2010 Regular season prediction is a optimistic 5 wins 11 losses !!! Definitely capped at 7 wins and no less than 3 wins in my humble opinion. Now, being a fan with blinders on at opening kickoff, I hope you are right! I am wrong! and want to predict 10 wins every year like I used to before I got cynical! Prove me wrong Buffalo !! Lets Go Bills !!
  13. Agree with both of you! When I left for the Navy July 6, 1983 I remember leaving the Buffalo Meps at the Federal Building downtown. My recruiter was driving us along the skyway and on the radio there was a talk show. The host and guest were talking about building a "New Peace Bridge". I retired in 2003 after 20 years and have been retired another 7 years and they are talking about the plans and building a "New Peace Bridge" !!! Is there something in the water that keeps us from getting things done in this city? Not only would there be a better feeling in Buffalo if we really made something special of our waterfront, but there would be more things for the people who live here to do, more (or some) tourists that actually might want to come here! We may be able to draw more quality players (and coaches!) to play for our sports teams if we developed our waterfront, knocked down some old mills & buildings and revitalized the entire city & infrastructure. Yes, this would cost a great deal of money, but this would mean additional jobs, a higher ratio of buildings and condos that are rented out with less vacancies. The same would go for hotels, the buses would be busier, the restaurants fuller, and it would feed a chain reaction and create jobs. Anyways, a New NFL Stadium might put us back on the map again...and if it's a dome we may even have a Superbowl game right in Buffalo!!!! Could you imagine?? the impact?? I guess you have visualize if it is to even be a possiblity! Well I enjoyed the topic...we might even be able to get a NBA Team once again with all this positive revitalization becoming a reality? A pro-baseball team one-day. We are only limited by our dreams and the only risk is that it doesn't work out, and we're still no worse off as our State can't even pass a budge, and is practically bankrupt.
  14. Yeah, I agree that's a possibility! I thought about it some...I also think the Bills organization typically hates to admit that they may have struck out on a previous draft choice and are committed to give Trent Edwards every opportunity (beyond what I would've) to succeed or fail. The Bills generally never choose the players that I hope they would. I study the draft long before the draft occurs in April. I actually set-up my War room (yes..it's insane, but I do) decorate it with Bills paraphelnelia (sp?)...have multiple t.v's playing, and the computer as well...all kinds of charts and graphs..etc...I really thought the draft would go different. I thought the Bills stood a good chance of drafting one or two of the Georgia Tech players considering the coaching staff's past history! I really thought the opportunity was their to trade up or down or stay pat and still get a high ranked QB or OLT. I do not understand this organizations logic or lack of in my humble opinion. For sure...I would not have drafted Aaron Maybin when Brian Orakapo DE was still on the board!! That was idiotic there!! I think Pozluzny must have influenced the decision makers at one bills drive or something. It still doesn't sit well with me. I don't understand the logic of drafting a QB in the 7th round if you don't have intentions of letting him compete for a starting positon. If he is that far behind in either his skills or knowledge of the NFL Game they should've either drafted a QB sooner or waited another year instead of probably wasting the pick. This year choosing a RB was purely ridiculous! I knew it when they made the selection, and unfortunately it appears there is a problem getting Spiller to sign with the Bills. This is not a good sign for future negotiations when they want to resign this player. It's bad enough we have problems with M. Lynch besides selecting a player in a position of depth who is already voicing strong financial demands before ever gaining a yard for us. I appreciate all the optimists out their, but I'll stick to being a realist when I predict the same 5-11 for 2010 that I have been predicting since April. There is no evidence so far to suggest to me that I need to change this prediction. I would've had a more understanding approach to my assesment if the Bills would've traded M. Lynch after drafting Spiller, but no they even missed the boat on that very basic and logical concept. We don't have a true franchise QB, #2 Wide Receiver, nor a suitable OLT. The whole leaugue realizes it except my fellow Bills fans who often wear blinders. I appreciate the loyalty, but sometimes it borders crossing the line of being foolish! 2010 Regular Season record 5-11 !!!
  15. Yep, and the Bills upper management need to look beyond the cost of signing spiller as he is one of the few Bills players that may entice fans like me to buy season or individual tickets. The Bills have little star power and I am waivering on rather I want to spend my money buying tickets when the product is lacking to begin with. I'm on the fence and Spiller not in camp is just one more reason that I am slowly debating if I'll buy seasons. I was very interested in Spiller besides Jairus Byrd, and Fred Jackson..and he may be one of only a handful of players that I am looking forward to watching...Anyways, long story short is get'em in here!!!!!
  16. Interesting! Hope it's not just scuttlebutt from the smoking lounge!
  17. Out of all the posts, I hope your post is the one that is correct, becuase if Spiller, Hardy, McKelving, Brohm, and Maybin all do real well...then that means the team probably finishes well..maybe even .500 record or so. I have been predicting 5-11 based on my thoughts, but I hope I am wrong! Go Bills.
  18. Yeah, he has the notoriety of being a bit abrasive at times and bossy. He was getting a little cocky when arrived during NFL mini-camp as well, and this was not well received by some of his teammates. Otherwise, he has most of the intangibles and physical abilities that you look for in a NFL QB..especially being groomed in a pro-style offense. It seems to me that several years ago, there was an aggressive, cocky QB that arrived at the Buffalo Airport named Jim Kelly. He originally didn't want to play here and tried to avoid it, got into personal conflicts with some of the players who became known as the "Bickering Bills", and became the most legendary QB in Buffalo Bills history. I think we made a "memorable", but terrible decison on passing on Jimmy Clausen in the draft. I think time will prove this to be the case as there was little risk considering we have practically nothing at the position, and we made a luxury pick at the RB position which was likely unneccesary. Could you imagine the Season's anticipation if we would have selected a Left tackle like Bryan Bulaga, or Anthony Davis in the 1st round, and Jimmy Claussen in the 2nd round, and then selected Troup in the 3rd who probably would have been there anyways. Also, we selected 2 DE's in the draft, Maybin DE last year, and Chris Ellis at DE they year before! Yet we passed on Brian Orakapo 2 yrs ago! I sure can see why we haven't improved any in the past 10 years! If we had Orakapo, Claussen, and Bulaga or A. Davis instead of some of the players we selected I would feel like we are heading into the right direction. Also, why the heck is Tom Modrak here???? Does anyone know??? Isn't 10 yrs of dismal drafting enough???
  19. I wonder if someone still has the article from when Wade was fired? I do remember the headphone issue, and I also remember the "refusing to fire one of his assistant coaches" issue as well. I don't remember enough details to make a case for either arguement, but I do remember that you both bring up valid issues with Wade at that time. I still don't think Wade is all that great of a coach, but I do believe he is better than Jauron for sure, and probably Mularkey as well. I haven't formed an opinion on Chan Gailey yet, but I am already very concerned because of many of the off-season decisions that have been made, even though that would be directed more at Buddy Nix (and R. Wilson). I don't like the direction thay have taken in reference to drafting, and player aquisitions generally speaking. I did like the Easley pick overall, except he may have been available in the 5th round vice 4th. We're in trouble at left tackle, and unless they go with Brohm it guarantees more of the same at QB. Not that Brohm would do well, but he is more of an unknown factor, and we already know what we have with the other 2 donkeys !!!! Sorry I didn't stick exclusively to the topic, but the Bills have a way of getting one's blood to boil over and I needed to vent a little! Thanks.... 2010 Prediction 5-11
  20. I saw your post and had to respond.... I have an autographed box of Flutie Flakes in my den that I have been thinking about putting for sale on E-Bay. ( I'm out of work for health reasons and figured I'd pick up several bucks for it...)...There is a little story that goes with the Box as well! I remember after a game that flutie pulled out in the end..I was thinking Jacksonville, because I remember this Jacksonville fan getting all snotty with me (and everyone), because we beat them..I am thinking it's the same game (I may be wrong)...anyways it was drizzling out after the game..and Flutie was one of the only players to remain outside near the tunnel entrance of the outside of the stadium. You would see different players come out with a few family members and get in their cars and drive off, but not Flutie!! There was a line of people wanting his autograph and he was getting a little wet. His security team that remained tried to pull the plug on the autographs, and usher flutie away to cozier confines... I distinctly heard Flutie tell his security detail that he was staying out there until he signed an autograph for everyone that was waiting (even though he was getting wet). I thought that that was such a classy thing for him to do as I wouldn't have blamed him if he would've wrapped things up prematurely. I would sell it to a real Bills fan from here before listing on ebay if there is interest? I also met Jim Kelly once at the Raddison Hotel in Virginia Beach, VA when I was in the Navy back in the early '90s. He walked in over an hour late for the autograph session/auction (part of the Bruce Smith Golf tournament events) all pissed off. There are bank teller type of ropes sectioning off different areas of the entrance and some old lady is standing in his way. I actually saw Jim Kelly unconciously raise his hands as if he was going to push her out of his way, and then you could see he thought about it by his expression and decided "bad idea"...as he proceeded to the event area he became surrounded by autograph hounds including myself. After a long wait, it's my turn and I have a Jim Kelly NFL football that I present him to be signed. He took my football, and marker and signed part of the "J" in Jim and then handed back to me and said exactly "This marker sucks". I thought that was crude, but bought a brand new marker and an hour later after waiting I finally got my opportunity for his autograph again. I stood happily awaiting my autographed football, Jimbo was signing it and the world became right again...Then suddenly, he quickly hands my football to some other dude..and bloop! my football disappeared in the crowd. I was in disbelief, and I diplomatically said to Kelly that he gave my football to someone else. He wouldn't answer me nor look at me. I said just slightly louder in case he couldn't hear me...I said "Jim, you gave my football to someone else." Again, he wouldn't respond nor look at me...even though he heard me. He just continued to walk away. I know it was probably wrong, but that marker met up with the back of "someone's" sportcoat later in the event. Just prior to leaving a guy walked up to me and said to me, "I guess this is yours," and handed me my football with a disappointed sound in his voice like he wanted it, but knew it wasn't his. My football tells a story, about a guy that I thought I respected as a person, and a football player. After that day, I still rooted for the player in Jim Kelly..but I never looked at him with admiration as a person again. I may put this football up on ebay as well, which you can see the partial "J" besides his autorgraph, and would prefer to sell it to a loyal Buffalo Bills fan.

  22. I could see where you could make a comparative study of the two and see similarities. NOT! Maybe, if Trent developed into a leader and admitted his own shortcomings instead of trying to put the blame on previous coaches, systems, and how many people he say's he's taking orders from. Maybe he'd be good if he threw to the right color uniforms? If he threw the balls in the air instead of into the ground? Maybe if he could sense pocket pressure and get rid of the ball prior to getting sacked, maybe if he would attempt to throw the ball more than 10 yards, maybe if he wasn't so injury/concussion prone? If he could just get used to cold weather games? Wet weather, fog, rain, away games, playing against division foes? If he could overcome most of those obstacles (there are others as well..) then just maybe he'd be a decent QB !! But, I think the Bills borrowed 3 street signs from a highway construction crew..... #1 Dead End (T. Edwards), #2 Road under Construction (Brohm), #3 Rough road ahead (Fitz.). In reference to Levi Brown maybe... Speed bumps ahead.
  23. I think one of their QB's will get cut early-on...I'll go on the limb and say Ryan Fitzpatrick. I could see them bringing someone else who is marginal from another team's cuts. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Chris Ellis DE who has been with the organiztion a few years and hasn't produced much of anything to be cut if he has a lackluster camp. I think it's make or break for James Hardy WR, as he really has to do a good job or he may be gone. It's time to let some of the deadweight go! I don't like Ellis or McCargo and am down with that as well. I think the Bills have an abundance at RB and will want to hang on to one or two extra and place them on the practice squad this year! Heck, there is probably about 20 players I'd like to cut after watching this team the past few years!
