Or one or two good games to start seeing playoffs looming on the horizon. This season was what it was. And thank God it's over. You don't think that was more than counterbalanced by the fact that the Jets didn't even dress their starting corners or safeties? And gave the Bills worst-run-in-the-league defense a present as well by not dressing either starting running back? And after putting their "Sanchise" starting QB in briefly to hand off a couple times, put their second, and then the third string QBs (who both managed TD drives on the Bills starting Defense) in as well? The entire Bills organization has a lot of work to do the next few years. That much is clear.

Excellent points. I just don't see Spiller as a impact running back in the NFL. Catching short passes is a great idea for him because he can clearly do some damage when he gets some open space. Maybe a slot receiver? Overall I think we are more than a couple of players away from being competitive. 3-4 seasons if the current regime doesn't !@#$ up.

Ok....let me ask this.....if Luck declares
CodeMonkey replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All of these discussions about taking Luck, trading up for Luck etc. etc. are predicated on the fact that if he was drafted by Buffalo he would agree to play with Buffalo and not pull a Elway/Manning and say "F U ... trade me". Given the state of the Bills and in particular their offensive line, I might well walk away from Buffalo right now if I were him. That tactic worked out pretty well for both Elway and Manning. There is no way you mortgage the rest of your draft by trading up and take someone that won't play for you. Just sayin. -
Farve in more hot water (update : Lawsuit settled)

A team hires young (probably attractive) women to massage athletes and the athletes proposition them for sex. I'm not seeing the "news" here. If the team did not expect this to happen they would hire burly men. My guess is that either these two girls were very naive and didn't understand the unwritten (for obvious reasons) job description going in, or they (their lawyer probably) understood perfectly and in the wake of the Sterger thing are now trying to get paid. Why else wait until now to complain? I know a couple female massage therapists and they get propositioned almost daily to give "extras". They don't care for it because they consider themselves to be professionals and are a bit insulted when it happens. But they just say no and get on with life. -
This is not news. Anyone who has watched this season objectively knew this already. Even most people watching the season through red and blue colored glasses saw it in the last 2 games at least. Before this season began Nix and Gailey were talking about how it will be a long process and not to expect miracles overnight. I know that a lot of people were thinking/hoping lightning might strike. But it took more than 10 years of neglect to get this bad, it will take at least a few years of doing the right things to see real improvement. Unfortunately, in my opinion anyway, this years first pick was not a wise choice given the state of the team. So this was year 0 of the 3-4 season rebuild. I am hopeful Nix and company will do a considerably better job this time around. We will see.

Byrd would like to be a better tackler
CodeMonkey replied to The Senator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Go to some practices of 8-10 year old teams when they are taught how to wrap up and tackle instead of the horseshit dive at the players legs or grab the shoulder pads that is in vogue these days. Same could be said for most DBs in the league. -
Yesterday's Meltdown Was Best Thing

I doubt Luck will fall to #3. Someone else will trade down before that happens. But I like the way you are thinking! -
Oh no! The Fitzmagic was in the beard!

Yesterday's Meltdown Was Best Thing

Actually the last 2 weeks should have showed him how far away from the playoffs the Bills are. I still don't expect Nix to hit the free agent market heavily. I think he will stick to the draft philosophy unless forced. And I do not see Mr. Wilson forcing Nix to spend a ton of cash on free agents if he doesn't want to. Gailey does not make the #3 selection, Nix as GM would do that. Brandon no doubt is going to be looking for some hook he can exploit to not lose any more seasons sales. But I doubt he can force a QB down Nix's throat if Nix is opposed. -
What the "koolaid drinkers", for lack of a better term, cling to are the intangible things they feel got better. For example you see things like "the team is better than their record", or "with a few breaks this was a 9-7 team", or "the players have bought into the system" etc. Things that are just opinion that cannot be quantified. And for those things, they feel Gailey, Nix, and the team as a whole improved from last season. Your opinion may vary.

Not starting Fitz yesterday was a smart move. Our QBs were taking some big hits yesterday and the line was horrible ... even non existent in some cases. Fitz had his confidence shaken in the NE game, no need to pile it on yesterday. He almost certainly is the Bills starter next season no matter who is drafted so let him heal and shake off the one very bad game to get ready for next season.

You could see it was friendly to be sure. And the Jets players were yukking it up the entire second half on the sideline (and the Bills players were not, BTW). But do not kid yourself. Both teams wanted to win. It's just that the Jets did, while resting a bunch of their starters. But thank God it's over, and on to the draft!

Dare I say The last two weeks looked "intentional"
CodeMonkey replied to Lenigmusx's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A nice try. But the Bills lost to a SB contender which you can't feel real bad about, and a JV team. Don't waste time making excuses. The Bills sucked this season, again. Hopefully they won't waste they first pick again this draft and will be better next season. -
I generally agree with you. With the only caveat being if Nix and Gailey both see one of the players as a franchise QB and said QB is still on the board at #3, then they take him. No way they trade up and give up picks for a QB with Fitz playing as well as he did this season. But I never would have guessed them taking a RB last year so my powers of deduction are definitely in question
-
Sounds like bull **** to me. How would some announcer know what Nix/Gailey are thinking? Either one might have said the Bills were generally interested in him, but they would not have said which pick. Makes no sense.

Why Drafting A Franchise QB At #3 Is Important
CodeMonkey replied to ohiotim's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hmmm. I'm not sold on the new DC thing. If you apply the same logic to the offense which was also very bad this season, you would have to throw Gailey under the bus as well. You can't expect miracles with dog **** for players, no matter who the DC is. -
J.P. going to the playoffs with the beard in tow
CodeMonkey replied to fairfaxbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd trade 4-12 for 7-9 any day though. -
So Chan as well as the rest of the team rolled over today and didn't care that a JV team was embarrassing them. Gee that makes me feel a lot better about next season. What would you have thought if the score was reversed .. still meaningless? or ... Great way to end the season and build momentum for next season? Shows the character of the team and how hard they play for their coach? A team that is better than their record? (oh wait, you said that anyway) But, we got the #3 overall pick apparently so that is a good thing anyway. Like the previous 10 ****ty seasons and counting, there is always next year. Here is to Nix doing a good job at the draft this year and picking a winner at #3!

JAX/GB must lose, SD/IND/DEN must win

Jax has pretty much lost. It would take a miracle for them to win now. -
Two Options For This Team To Go
CodeMonkey replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wasn't suggesting we should draft a RB. In my opinion both lines is where we should spend a great many of our picks this time. But last year they drafted a RB when we didn't need one. With Lynch gone, Freddy a year older, and Spiller looking to be a situational player at best, RB will be a position of need before you know it. -
Let the rationalizing begin. Bottom line, we got totally owned the last two weeks against other teams in the AFCE. You can rationalize some against NE because they are very good and fielded their best team. The Jets didn't even dress either starting running back and still ran they were playing a UFL team. The Jets defense didn't even dress either corner or either safety and the Bills offense was shut out. There is no rationalizing this loss. It was a pathetic performance against the JV squad of a team we play twice every season. Hopefully it will help in terms of draft order, and it is not the end of the world as we knew going in that the Bills weren't exactly loaded with talent. But if the NE game didn't show people just how far from being competetive the Bills are, hopefully this game did. And Nix, Gailey, and Mr. Wilson had better realize that as well. The bolded line is just astounding. How can the starting squad of a team getting their balls cut off and fed to them by the scrubs of a AFC East opponent not matter?

Two Options For This Team To Go
CodeMonkey replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We are at least 2-3 years away from the playoffs no matter what. A rookie QB is not going to change that, This team is nearly devoid of talent at every position. The good news is no matter who they pick first it will go towards a position of need (even running back now). -
The Jets second and third string QBs both scored on us. Meanwhile our starting offense (2nd string QB and other injuries, but except for Fitz the best we could field) could not manage even a field goal against a defense that didn't even dress their top 2 corners or top 2 safeties. And the Jets offense didn't dress either of their top 2 running backs, and their starting QB handed off a couple times then took the rest of the day off. Not to mention others that played a little then rested the remainder of the game. And our starting defense and offense still got abused. Pathetic is putting it mildly. But, at least no one can now think this team is "better than their record" and Nix/Gailey can get to work making sure this bad of a team does not disgrace Bills fans again next season. At least that is my hope.

Tasker has been a present surprise this game. He clearly has improved this season.
