Hmmm. So would you classify BellyCheat and his Pats as being driven more by logic or by passion? Regarding records like 9-7 or 11-5 being possible, of course they are. So is 16-0. But going in with unrealistic expectations like some did last year does not make sense to me. Jumping up and down yelling and screaming and being as passionate as humanly possible doesn't change the overall skill level of a team. At least not to any meaningful consistent degree. Just my opinion. What you smoke might be different.

For longer than I care to remember he has been teabagging the Bills with those big balls.

Of course, how could I not see that giving the team 3 or 4 extra wins right there The vast majority of last years team is also this years team, unless there is some dramatic upheaval. Spiller is 5'11" and a hair under 200 lbs (all of it heart and muscle). I'm pulling for the kid, but I have my doubts about him being a running back at the NFL level. But here is to hoping he can somehow manage to pull it off!

You see, statements this is where I think logic goes completely out the window. The Bills were 4-12 last year and by all rational accounts a train wreck. A defense that didn't know what it wanted to be when it grew up, 4-3 or 3-4 (had the personnel, arguably, for a 4-3 but wanted to play 3-4). A over achieving offense with no #1 WR, basically 1 RB for the bulk of the season (difficult to count Spiller as a RB he played so little and was so ineffective when he did) and so on. So now this year the defensive line almost certainly got better. Linebackers stay the same. Defensive backs most likely stay the same. And my assumption is they will try a 3-4 again without the personnel for it (with a few exceptions). The offense is for all intents and purposes unchanged. How in the world does this equate to "anything less then 9 & 7 is a disappointment" to even the most fervent kool-aid drinker? I have heard all the "but with a break here and a call going our way there we win 3 more games last season" stuff. But that is all bull ****. That team had the record they deserved last year. And without some kind of divine intervention will again this year. You may "Billieve", but come on. At some point logic has to kick in right? Remember last year at this time when people were saying the same things ("this team HAS to be better with Gailey and Spiller, they CAN'T end up with a worse record than 7-9")? What makes this year so different? Personally with this team and their schedule, I would consider 8-8 a HUGE accomplishment.

Could this really happen?
CodeMonkey replied to Captain Hindsight's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That has happened to people that I know. Contracts now do not mean what they did years ago, and that is not for the better. There is plenty of greed on both sides. And I personally find the entire situation disgusting. -

Wouldn't it be interesting if the UFL stepped in and gave the players a better deal and instantly expanded to 32 teams, shutting out the NFL. That would be very entertaining to see. You know the TV networks would fall in line, they just want to show football. Since the teams generally don't own the existing stadiums, the UFL should be able to make deals with them as well. Dare to dream I guess -

Toronto to make a pitch for a NFL team
CodeMonkey replied to Scrappy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So far anyway, all you need is a "enhanced" drivers license that lets you drive to Canada. Link It costs a bit more but I don't think enough to stop the people paying for season tickets from getting one. Now would they go is another matter altogether. -
Toronto to make a pitch for a NFL team
CodeMonkey replied to Scrappy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why? Are 75% of Bills fans wanted for some kind of crime that would keep them from crossing the border? Can you explain what this is in the context of a NFL team please and who it gets paid to? -
Toronto to make a pitch for a NFL team
CodeMonkey replied to Scrappy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You can't say Toronto couldn't support a NFL team based only on a out of town (****ty) team playing one game there a year. The fan support could be completely different if there were a team based there and I suspect they could make a decent business case for having a team there. Plus the NFL is trying to expand to foreign markets so this would be a logical first step as well. The big issue would seem to be the proximity of the Bills. Two teams in close proximity doesn't hurt places like NYC with enough population and the economy to support two. But a small market like Buffalo might take a hit. Unless the thought process is there will be no team in Buffalo in a few years. In any event, I wouldn't write Toronto off so easily. If ten years ago you would have read that Toronto was trying to get a Bills game there per season most people probably would have laughed that off as well. -
4 key players for sucess in 2011
CodeMonkey replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So your thought process is that 8-8, "if" as you say that could be achieved, could give them a good shot at a wildcard in the AFC East? -

I was waiting for you to chime in man! I think that anyone whose main focus is the record or about making the playoffs this season is setting themselves up for a big disappointment. Look for signs of improvement from previous Bills (particularly Spiller and Fitz at least for me) and to see how many of the new guys see the field and can contribute. I expect a season much like last, with Gailey and Nix evaluating people again for much of the season to see if players like Fitz and Spiller and others are long term guys or not. To expect a 4-12 team to turn it around and make the playoffs just with the addition of primarily one or two good defensive linemen is unrealistic, at least to me. People need to keep reminding themselves this is a long rebuilding process and this really is the first year (last year was all but wasted in my opinion). Remember that and temper your expectations accordingly is my recommendation. and don't get swept up in the emotion of a draft that didn't suck for a change. -
Whitner rated by ESPN experts as #7 overall saftey in NFL
CodeMonkey replied to pmak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He is apparently viewed well by the rest of the NFL. I believe he will get an offer higher than what the Bills might offer. Given the Bills history with players who leave he will probably go on to a great career someplace else. -
I think Donte Whitner is on his period
CodeMonkey replied to Deep2Moulds46's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Now that is a valid reason. Though I suspect the KK comparison might be too close to call -

So let me see if I have this straight. Both of you want to let a former first round pick walk with no compensation not because of his playing ability or lack thereof, and not because he is "one more mistake away from a big suspension" (aka Lynch), but because you think his twitter comments are childish? I weep for the future of the Bills Nation. -
New England Could have Drafted a Clip Board Holder
CodeMonkey replied to EldaBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is the the single biggest thing about them that both impresses and infuriates me. Their organization is what I want the Bills organization to be when they grow up. And now if you will excuse me I need to go wash the bad taste out of my mouth. -
Yeah but this year they REALLY smell it The Bills look to have had a decent draft this year, no harm in a little post draft chest pounding by those so inclined!

Why? Do they have multiple large HD TV's to watch the games and a full bar there? -
Nice nickname for him

Yeah I feel the same way. But as you said the ILB is a much safer bet than Mallet, so the Bills made the smart choice in my opinion. Even if Mallet turns into the next Brady, which I have the sinking feeling he could, nothing says he would have turned out the same on a team like Buffalo. -

And some of the stuff posted is beyond stupid and needlessly overly positive. If everyone thought the same way and only posted how great the Bills were and how every loss was due to ref bias and/or cheating this board would be as boring as if everyone posted how every draft pick and every player was the worst in NFL history and it would be a miracle to win one game this season. Diversity my friends, is was makes the US such an interesting place. If you want or expect everything you read, think and speak to be exactly the same as everyone else go join the Taliban! Here at least you may think some posts show lack of faith in the Bills FO and I may think some are lacking any factual grounding whatsoever. But we can hopefully share thoughts with each other in a civil manner without getting our panties in a bunch because we don't happen to agree with what some people post. Don't worry, be happy!
