Brady just slammed the Buffalo area
CodeMonkey replied to Yard Monkey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think most people here know that he is good. It just makes then nauseous to admit it publicly. I would not want to live in Buffalo at all for many reasons (most of which are spelled out in this thread), but if I had to live in either Buffalo or NYC, I'm taking Buffalo hands down. -

And hence a big cause of the decline. Adapt or die. Buffalo and Kodak chose the latter (though there is still hope for Buffalo). Xerox is adapting. -

Nike uniform unveiling discussion
CodeMonkey replied to Wayne Cubed's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not sure I follow your thought process completely here. I do work on open source projects so in effect that code is published "to the web". And people take pieces of it all the time and turn them into applications that they make money on. When the counterfeiters make jerseys that for all intents and purposes are physically the same as the ones you purchase from the NFL, that is competition. It is license infringement and therefore illegal, but it is not theft. Theft would be if they robbed whatever Chinese factory makes the Reebok/Nike jerseys then sold what they stole. Ugh. Don't even get me started on SOPA/PITA. -
Does Buffalo have a draft plan B?

I'm just hoping they have a plan A. -

I am in the software business and that happens all the time. Not after 50 years, but the same principle. You learn to make a better product at a better price than the competition rather than hide behind the skirts of the law in order to survive. Particularly in the current global economy. In my opinion if the NFL is concerned with the counterfeits, the best business approach is to deliver a better product, which in my experience the quality of the counterfeits is basically the same, and/or become price competitive, which they clearly are not even in the same universe. Who would bother ordering one from China if you could walk into the Bills store and get one immediately for roughly the same price. 1000% markup buys them a lot of leeway however. If a substantial number of people feel the way that you do (or don't even know about the counterfeits) and buy the licensed product they can afford to ignore the counterfeiters. -

Hampton Inns are nice for budget rooms, but not what Marcia is looking for. -

I was just thinking that too. I have never stayed in a hotel in Buffalo, (by the hour or otherwise ) but Rochester has two that I have been in that are very nice. Hard to believe Buffalo doesn't have any. -

I don't buy it, because it is obscenely overpriced. My perception of a products value does drive my decision to buy or not buy a product. It also drives my decision to buy or not buy a counterfeit. I understand that the companies making the counterfeit jerseys are illegally reproducing the licensed property of the NFL. But when I see a 1000% markup (not all to the NFL, Reebok/Nike gets their cut too) on any product, I have no issue breaking the law that benefits the price gouger. -

You are absolutely correct, what the China sites that I have seen sell are not marked as irregulars. They have the holographic seal, tags, and everything else that would make someone think it came from Nike or Reebok. The attitude that anything the NFL does is good, including making a 1000% or more profit on merchandise and blackouts, is also sickening to me anyway. If the NFL charged a reasonable price for the jerseys in the first place, there would be no market for counterfeit ones and we would not even be having this discussion. And regarding the 10 year olds in China, who do you think makes the jerseys for Reebok or Nike? -

Settle down Francis. Not only did I not give a direct link, I did not even give an indirect one. -
State funding for RWS Stadium improvements?

You might be able to eat for the year on the $50K, but you would be living in a cardboard box. -
Whatever you think of ChaNix, they aren't totally clueless. They announced it for a reason. Wanny has been out of the DC game since 1999, and when he was a DC it was 4-3. Maybe making this announcement is an attempt to remove doubt in FAs mind enough so that they will at least agree to talk to the Bills. Who knows.

They need to release the jerseys so china cloners can get to work and get reasonably priced ones to market. -
True enough. But one thing is for sure, this is ChaNix year 3 coming up and it's baby time.

Green-Ellis to wear 'revolutionary' chin strap in SB
CodeMonkey replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I applaud the effort. I wonder why the SB though and not during the season, if not the entire season. Media exposure I guess. I sure they hope they come up with some solution. It is a shame to see these guys become drooling idiots at 50 from all the concussions. It is worse when you consider all the HS and college players that get the brain injuries and don't even get the NFL money. -
At the end of the day the fish have made some strong moves in an attempt to improve. Time will tell, but on paper anyway the moves would appear to be good ones. The Bills have fired a DC and assigned those duties to the asst. HC, which on paper would also appear to be a good move. So far anyway, to me the fish appear to be the team making the stronger move to improve. But it is still very early in the process. Get er done Buddy, show me the baby.

Confirmation why defense has been so bad
CodeMonkey replied to GaryPinC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ahhh yes another Bills offseason. This scheme and DC change changes everything! Forget that the Bills have spent the last 2 drafts and FA signings attempting to switch to the 3-4. All it takes is the Stache in charge! Never mind that as asst. HC last season he should have had considerable input into the defense. I believe that Wannstedt is a better DC than G. Edwards will ever be and this switch is a good thing for the Bills. But to expect a complete turnaround simply because of this makes no sense (except to a contingent of impressively optimistic Bills fans I suppose). Now if they completely re-tool the D this offseason with several key strategic FA's and draft picks that is another matter altogether. But if it essentially the same players with a semi-new DC then I do not expect nearly as big of an impact as the OP is hoping for. -

Its not that you are a fool or anything else bad, but you are thinking about it as a Bills fan. Think about it from a network executives viewpoint. (S)He is making a big money investment to televise the game and is going to be judged on what the ratings were, which affects how much they can charge for future commercials and therefore the profit of the network. The Bills have not exactly been setting the league on fire the last 12 years, and the last 2 seasons the record has been horrible. Outside of Buffalo and small pockets of displaced Buffalonians around the country, what interest would be generated by televising the Bills? At the end of the day it isn't about being fair, it's about making money. -

If I were running the TV networks and spending all that money to televise a game, I certainly would not choose a bottom feeder team that has not made the playoffs for 12 years running (a new record I believe) and has been out of the playoffs by December the past 2 seasons with a combined record of 10 - 22. How am I getting nationwide ratings with a team like that? Heidi would draw a bigger audience.
