WGR callers way worse than any poster here…

Do You Like What Beane Did in the First Round?
CodeMonkey replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yup and if there was a vote thread then I suspect it would be the same as this one. More than half liking it, "trust the process", and so on. In these situations generally one side loses and one wins, and often it takes a few years to figure out which is which. KC won the last one. Hopefully the Bills come out on top this time. Particularly every time he burns the Bills deep -
Do You Like What Beane Did in the First Round?

I presume KC did a risk/reward analysis and thought what they gave up for the trade warranted pulling the trigger. They must not have been as confident Worthy would still be around at 32 as the KC fans you saw. -
Do You Like What Beane Did in the First Round?
CodeMonkey replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Bills didn't grade any of the WRs as 1st round. KC disagreed to the point of trading up to get their guy. I suspect all the QBs going so early made their guy available at 28 and they jumped on it. The ESPN talking heads were puzzled by the Bills move, particularly with KC being the dance partner and both teams needing WR help. But Beane must think he can get 2 WRs in the 2nd that he likes at least as much as Worthy. Many were/are calling KC the big winner of that trade, but that ultimately won't be decided for some time. I personally didn't like it last night, still not crazy about it. If it wasn't KC, and if the whole Mahomes thing never happened, I might think differently. But ultimately Beane could be right. Only time will tell. -
Pegulas selling 25% of the Bills, per Tim Graham
CodeMonkey replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
3 out of the last 8 seasons in the playoffs isn't exactly stellar, particularly when you consider he had more player talent to work with there than here. However, it is 3 more times than the Sabres made the playoffs during that time period. And there are a lot of hard core fans excited by the hire expecting "drastically change the locker room culture" as you do which helps sales and general fan morale. Plus it's hard to argue the move isn't an upgrade. But it's also hard for me to believe it makes a big difference to the team overall and isn't only a short term, primarily feel good, Band-Aid. -
Pegulas selling 25% of the Bills, per Tim Graham
CodeMonkey replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
13 years of sucking and being the development team for the rest of the NHL. . And the response is a PR stunt head coach. I don't think Pegula has it in him to do right by the team or the fans. So if that's what happens, so be it. -
Will we be in Super Bowl contention this year?
CodeMonkey replied to bills6969's topic in The Stadium Wall
I consider this coming season a mini-rebuild. I expect them to do well and make the playoffs, but not a lot more than that. Anything more is a bonus IMO. -

Doing that doesn't automatically mean he has money problems. His wife is not well and his daughters tennis career is in full swing so maybe he wants to start easing into retirement. Personally I wish he would sell the Sabres outright. -
Beane was just on the news here and his statement was Josh was aware of the possibility of the trade but was not consulted or informed of the trade until after it was over. Also he made the statement the trade was made in the "long term best interest of the Bills".

13 years of no playoffs (as soon as they get eliminated this season). A record. And if you watch NHL and pay attention, it is sickening how many ex sabres are doing well elsewhere. How could they not stink.
-
The point is, they are being forced into that because the NFL owners do not want to pay for their own place of business. If they like the end result doesn't matter. Plus some, maybe most, would prefer the stadium experience if that's what their families have been doing for generations. And would also imply they could/should pay for their own places of business instead of charging their fans up front?
-
Agree about the bolded 100%. It's great that you can afford it, and that you and your son enjoy the experience enough to take the price increase in stride. It's not financially hard on me. Like you I could afford it as well. But the experience for me is not worth anywhere near the cost of the day at the Ralph. We stopped going in person several years ago. Now for the 1pm starts I record the game, and I have software that skips the commercials automatically on playback. So my family spends Sunday afternoons doing what we like, then we get pizza and all meet up to watch the game in 90 minutes or so while eating dinner. What I feel bad about are the fans that have managed to afford seasons for their families for years, now needing to find or get a loan for a pretty large lump sum payment that does nothing but help finance the Biils new stadium rather than the NFL, which as you say is the "biggest sport in the world revenue wise" (it's actually 2nd behind soccer, but close), financing it. That just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Most who have "considerable wealth" didn't get there by blindly and stupidly allowing themselves to get raped by businesses. They had a small business owner on the news here recently who has 8 box seats seasons, has had them for years. His ticket rep told him the PSL for him would be $400K, which his business could not afford. The owner asked if there was some kind of discount available and was told no. The choice was to pay or give up some or all of the seats. The rep did offer up the contact info for a place to take out a loan (from which I suspect the Bills get a kickback). That's what the NFL has come to, pricing themselves out of reach to blue collar fans. The NFL has shown its insatiable greed for some time now, but I (probably stupidly) was expecting more from a team in a blue collar town like Buffalo. As do the teams themselves. Bottom line, if you don't like it don't pay. That's all the NFL cares about quite frankly, when it affects their bottom line.

You forgot stock beer fridge with quality beer for far less than the $10 each they want at the Ralph for (lets be generous) average product.

Chiefs are just better than the Bills
CodeMonkey replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall
Cap situation what it is, we'll see how this comparison stands up next season. Yeah, misses like that in the draft can hurt teams for many years. -
How do you explain Diggs invisibility act
CodeMonkey replied to Coldfronts's topic in The Stadium Wall
No mystery. He is just aging out. -
There will always be a-holes in any decent sized group. Fans treating Bass like this, fans in the stadium and lots verbally abusing and threatening opposing teams fans, even kids. But they are very VERY much the minority. And I have also seen true Bills fans step in to help try and correct the wrong.
-
It's not a matter of scripting, but awareness. Have you ever seen a player intercept a pass but rather than score, take a knee about 5 yards from the end zone so that the offense can run out the clock rather than allow the other team the ball again? Awareness. Look, Josh is a baller all day long no doubt and I'm glad he's a Bill. But a MVP also has that awareness of the game situation.

Hamlin officially wins PFWA Comeback Player of the Year
CodeMonkey replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Bills kept him on the roster for something, the feel good award for the NFL to tout is something. He did do one relevant thing on the field this season, he was instrumental in "the fake punt" after all. Keeping him around this season qualified him for the NFL pension plan. At the end of the day he was a player on a team, and it's probably impossible to come back any farther than near death on the field. Let the guy have his full 15 min of fame (and his pension). -
THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - I Just Love the Bills

Well written as always. Your new Zenlike attitude to your fandom is a much smarter, and infinitely healthier (mentally in particular) way to be IMO. Congrats -
Am I the only one not planning on watching Chiefs/Ravens??
CodeMonkey replied to Special K's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm not a football fan, I'm a Bills fan. So I almost certainly will not be watching. -
Damn, I hate it when I mix nicknames

Would the Bills have beaten the Ravens?
CodeMonkey replied to Dan Darragh's topic in The Stadium Wall
One of the talking heads commented after the game that given the injuries to the Bills D, they likely would have gotten steamrolled over by the Ravens. I tend to agree with that, but any given Sunday ... -
I disagree. I think he did a pretty amazing job with the D considering the endless tidal wave of injuries. No issues as a DC, but at HC he has some glaring deficiencies.
-
Ahhhh, but put on your "more money" NFL hat for a moment. If that play had worked, to Hamlin in particular, and the Bills went on to win, just imagine the feel good stories that we would be reading today. I have no way of knowing if that was thought about pre game, or even at the heat of the moment. But why in the world else do you get it to Hamlin with that game on the line.
