  1. Could be she wore those sandals specifically as an incentive for Rex to take the job! they really can't say unless someone says something to them. Which obviously didn't happen.
  2. He supports everything the Bills don't do. So if they hire the guy Sully wants, he will immediately do a 180 on it.
  3. Yeah but he quit. You know the rules. Now everything bad with the team was his fault. Easy to see with all the threads devoted to him, and all the ones hijacked talking about it as well.
  4. Didn't see one. But there is an interesting coaching change article there written on Black Monday. http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/theres-not-much-evidence-a-new-coach-will-help-the-jets-49ers-or-falcons/
  5. I agree completely. He expected to have to use Manuel which in his mind meant below .500 barring a miracle, and tried to get the contract extension now. No matter who the new HC is, it is very possible for the team to have a worse record next season unless, as you said, somehow the QB situation improves.
  6. Because it was phrased that Rex will hold court, yes.
  7. Can't say I'd blame him for going the TV route. For a football freak, like any NFL coach would be, a job like Cowher has would have to be a wet dream. Follow football in depth all week at your leisure, then show up on weekends to watch football all day with other football freaks and talk about it on TV that other football freaks are watching. Plus if that isn't enough, get paid what I have to believe is a buttload of money to do it. Rex has the knowledge, the reputation, and the personality to be very good at that.
  8. That's actually a huge negative at this point in time. No QB and no first rounder. In my opinion you overestimate the desirability of a team that just topped .500 for the first time in a decade and hasn't been in the playoffs for 15 years. Ryan has other options (and will probably end up in Atlanta anyway). The Bills need a solid HC and the pickings are rather slim at the moment. For "big name" coaches it is almost always a sellers market, IMO.
  9. Disagree. The Bills need to sell themselves to any experienced HC. Someone looking for a promotion from assistant would have to sell themselves to the Bills.
  10. Someone with a grand total of less than 1 year in football picking a head coach for a NFL team. Yes it's a nightmare. If it were any other team you would be making fun of the team and it's owner. If Whaley is picking the HC and Pegula is along for the ride to learn and be involved, then no worries. But that's not how TGs statement sounds. And I still hope the statement is rubbish, or at best only partially true (which it almost has to be, assuming Pegula is not Jerrah #2).
  11. Dear god I hope he is just making it up. Pegula picking a HC is a disaster waiting to happen.
  12. It would appear that Whaley has put all his eggs in the Manuel basket for next season at the very least. He has no choice but to want that it would seem.
  13. This is considered a lateral move by the NFL. The NFL seems to consider there being only 2 positions, HC and everyone else. "An NFL team cannot interview an assistant coach who is under contract as an assistant with another team for the following season without the permission of his current organization. Teams will usually give permission upon request, particularly if a lower level coach is set to take an offensive or defensive coordinator position elsewhere, but the current team is not required to give permission."
  14. Soooooooo sort of like Doug Marrone?
  15. Nice post Mr. Whaley Amazing to see how quickly #2 is assumed to be fact now by so many.
  16. That's an interesting point. I have wondered if it is best for a GM to get players that fit his vision and hire a HC that shares that vision, or for a GM to hire a great HC and work with that HC to acquire players that fit the HCs vision. I have always considered the latter to be best, but it could be the former I guess.
  17. Everyone interviewing for the HC job is not going to take Whaleys word for it when speaking of Manuel. They have eyes and can look and judge for themselves. I can't imagine Whaley would even bother saying something as petty as "EJ has been coming along great but Marrone was too stubborn to use him. It was a big mistake on the previous staff."
  18. Exactly my thought as well.
  19. It doesn't take a rocket scientist I suppose to figure out that next season could well hinge upon Manuel becoming at least average. From the looks of things, the possibility of the Bills picking up even an average QB via draft, trade, or FA seems unlikely. That leaves Manuel as the default.
  20. It is interesting to read this and the other Marrone related threads. Now all of the problems with the Bills ... Manuel sucking, Spiller sucking, the offense in general sucking and so on ... are now suddenly all the fault of Doug Marrone. Like a giant secret was just revealed. Somehow he must be responsible for OJ's legal problems as well I imagine I know this is a Bills homer board and a lot of fans feel like Marrone just stood them up for the prom and that's where most of the venom is coming from, but it interesting nonetheless
  21. I suppose Whaley would be better for that as well. But I guess if the HC is going to report directly to Pegula (why I still do not know) then I guess he should be part of the interview process?
  22. Can't really. I would assume all conversations with the Jets would have been with the agent. And I would also assume that agent represents more than just Marrone. The simple fact that they talked proves nothing.
  23. I would be too. He would be going from a team with no QB, a ****ty offense, and a great defense to a team with no QB, a ****ty offense, and a mediocre (on a good day) defense. He would probably be getting paid well though along with the $4 mil bonus from the Bills which is nice.
  24. Good lord this scares me most of all! Why in the world would Terry Pegula, first year owner with no football experience prior to now, presume enough to hire a head coach! The fact that he is even going on the interviews scares me! I suspect this is all just a prelude to promoting Schwartz to HC however.
