Good article. Thanks to the OP. No two ways about it, Hyde and Poyer are a terrific tandem, and glad we are to have them I also like Limeaid's idea of extensions that keep their contracts timelines together. Poyer definitely deserves some more $.

I'm not sure we even need to trade for anyone, there are a number of RBs on the open market. Atm, we are doing okay, assuming Singletary returns after the bye. My concern, is that we don't have a ready replacement for Gore, should he get injured. While I take the point that he's proven incredibly durable through his career, after there being plenty of concerns about him when he entered the draft due to knee operations, a simple reality is that at his age, if he does get injured, it's going to take longer for him to heal. Without knowing if Singletary can carry the load on his own - and we don't know that for certain as yet, I would rather have someone who you would consider a power back, already in the room, to take over from Gore if need be. The RB room currently, has a really nice blend, of complimentary talents, but the only guy who you wouldn't necessarily be bothered by being out, is Yeldon. Generally, with his FO, you would like to think there's a plan in place to cover for eventualities, but for all the good work they have done, they aren't perfect - as shown by the QB fiasco early last season. As a generalization, I'd say you can pick up a change of pace type of guy, at a moments notice, but someone who is a bruising runner, is somewhat harder to come by, which is why I would be advocating looking hard to find a backup for Gore

Milano will probably get fined a bunch as well. After all, he couldn't do anything at all about colliding with the QB. Whereas the guy who didn't have to lower his helmet to make helmet to helmet contact with Allen, gets off scott free.

Thing is, even clearing the protocols means limited reps. Barkley will get his reps, within the gameplan and Josh will probably not be allowed to do stuff while still in it. ’Good to go’ doesn’t necessarily mean the best option. If he’ s ok, then it might be best for him to be the backup for the next game. If need be, he can always be brought on, as it wouldn’t really be being benched.

Smith simply gets penalised far too often generally. Even when he was here before, it was the same. McDermott should, imho, have taken him out of the game after his second penalty. He then got two more against him and got away with a hold that the commentators spotted.

One thing that is true is that the D is legit. An awful lot to work on on offense though. There are guys who will have to up their game, or will be gone in the future - and I do not include Allen in that.

Bird Song, would be a personal favourite not already mentioned. Box of Rain, another awesome song. He was able to do all types, sad stuff like China Doll, Stella Blue, to the bizarre of China Cat. The hilarious Tennessee Jed, with the drunken cadence to match the lyrics. Uncle John's Band - yet another favourite. The list could go on for a fair old time. It's about time I listened to some more of his stuff.

Yopu would be right about Plant not wanting to do it. You are wrong about him not still having the pipes for it, if he wanted to though. You are also totally wrong about him having a huge ego and being a douche - he's a decent guy who isn't bothered about the limelight any more. I would also say that Bonzo and Plant were close, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if Plant isn't interested in being in any form of Zeppelin without him.

That's a shame, hope everything goes well for him with surgery and rehab. Guy was starting to come on well, and this happens.

It's odd really, as the two wins have shown what Allen can be. Both a guy who can dig you out of a hole, and someone who can efficiently manage a game. Thing is, the numbers aren't very gaudy, and instead of watching games, so many of these prognosticators, go just off the numbers.

If Rivers arm is going, then he might be coming close to retiring, but even if he gets hurt, the guy is hard as nails, and has probably played through more serious types of injuries than any of his contemporaries.

I just want him to be 100% whenever he returns - even if it means missing the Cheaters game as well. The kid looks like a future player and we don’t need to hurry him back unnecessarily.

I wasn't sure either way at the time. In hindsight, I think it was a solid decision. As Gunner said, it might have been worth a low risk play to see if they could get decent yards towards a FG, but it certainly wasn't worth going full gung-ho. The reason, momentum. We had had it, but the Giants had briefly got it back, with the 3 and out, then the big punt return. The D gets the football back, but as Shaw made the point as well - two parts of the team were suddenly on the back foot, and they would be the parts you would rely on to get anything out of those last plays. Get off the field, with receiving the football to start the second half, and let the Giants go in thinking they have lost momentum by losing the football. Sometimes you just take what the other team gives you - and it applies not just to QBs. Another day, another situation, I might be calling McDermott out in similar circumstances, but I think he made the right call this time around.

I've only read some of the replies here, but it does seem as though many people have 'missed the point'. This isn't about how good the team currently is, it's about how well put together the organization is now, with not only McDermott and Beane, but also the Pegulas. There are a number of cliches that could be used, but simply put, everyone appears to be working in the same direction, and there are no dramas (atm - fingers crossed). Mistakes undoubtedly have been made, especially the QB fiasco early last season, but even that was eventually sorted, and we are in a decent position going forward. Ownership has invested in state of the art medical and training facilities for the players. We have seemingly drafted pretty well, although you honestly can't realistically grade the drafts for a year or two more, and our cap situation is very solid for the future. Areas that weren't working, be it players or personnel, get addressed. Not all will ultimately work out, but the early signs are that moves made with the coaching staff and free agency, have resulted in a significant uptick on offense and special teams - both of which were weak to bad areas of the team. And again - no dramas. There's a plan in place, to which we aren't entirly privy, yet it is there, and it's being carried out. Various parts of it we may not agree with, or even like, but it's happening.

Tbh, I'd rather he sat for a week or two until whenever his hamstring is back at 100%. Even if it means missing the Cheaters game, or more. The kid is looking like he will be a good part of our Offense for more than just this season, and risking continued hamstring problems if he's not 100%, isn't a sensible long term approach to be taking. One thing I will say though, is that with the new medical facilities, he might genuinely be able to return sooner than expected, and be 100%.

Not an unreasonable assessment. With the games we should win, that gives us 8 - 8 Browns, Titans and Steelers are all currently inconsistent, and it's yet to be determined if Rudoph can step up. We could win or lose any of those. Ravens are a team we generally play close, and we will certainly be in with a shout at home. Philly and the Cheaters are unlikely to be wins, but you never know how Wentz is going to hold up, Philly at home is not necessarily unwinnable. If we take care of business against the Bungles, I'll like our chances against the Cheaters lot more, but it will still only be thinking we have a chance, unless something untoward happens to them in the mean time. Unfortunately they have started this season in end of year form, and that's going to make it very difficult. If we are - 0 at that point, they are really going to be trying to make a statement, in an effort to knock our season back. Overall, I now like our chances of getting to 10, or maybe 11 wins, but we need to keep healthy to do so. There are a lot of teams being hit by injuries to important starters atm, and we need to avoid that.

I hope Rosen has success somewhere, just not Miami (or the Cheats for that matter). Irrespective of anything people might think about his personality, the bottom line is that he has been given no choice in how he's been handled. If he is successful at a later date - and I do hope he is - he could become the poster boy for how not to handle a QB prospect. It should also be an object lesson for guys who want to join the NFL, especially early, in a 'this is the sort of crap that can happen to you' way. i.e. the NFL will happily chew you up and spit you out without a by your leave or thankyou.

I thought, (and so did the commentators) that that was a really weak call. Knox basically just put his shoulder into him, and shifted him away. From memory, it was even pretty much shoulder to shoulder, the only aspect being the guy wasn't looking at him. Tbh, both teams had calls missed etc. but I was annoyed when Ford got his penalty, as whoever he pushed over, had been all over Allen, and had hit him on the helmet with his arm. Just because Allen is a big unit, doesn't mean he shouldn't get the same protection as other QBs do. Overall, I think in the poor calls that did happen, both teams were roughly equally shafted. At no point did I think they started to call stuff that they hadn't been calling throughout the game, even if they were getting it wrong, and in its own way, at least that was consistent.

I wouldn't say you are wrong there, but I think in the grand scheme of things, Daboll is doing a good job of trying to ensure Allen can walk the walk as an NFL QB, before worrying about how to get the most out of his undoubted ability. Get him reading defenses, taking care of the football, and getting through his progressions. The fundamentals of solid QB play in the NFL. Once he's happy with that stuff, I think he will really start to go to town with what he feels like he can call, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he does actually have plenty of ideas about how to get more from him, just that he wants him to be comfortable with the basics first. Should Allen keep on his upward trending path, we might get to see some of that towards the end of the season, or, dare I say it, should we reach the playoffs.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, in his post game PC, Allen gives kudos to Ford for having his back, even to the extent of not really being bothered by the 15yd pen - although he does acknowledge that coach won't be happy.?

It's one of those sporting cliches tbh. Difference being when the team actually buys in to the concept, which with Allen's comments, seem they are doing. Good presser from the kid, too, from the 'only one team in New York', to the end, where he talks about Ford having his back, and saying that while coach might not like the 15 yards penalty, he appreciates his guys sticking up for him. Telling it like it is, but without any drama.

Historically, with the odd exception in more recent times, we've beaten the Bungles at home, while losing to them in Cinci. They are certainly going to be 'up for it', as 0 - 3 is where nobody wants to be, except probably the Fish. It won't be an easy game, but again, it should be one we can, and ought, to win.

If Singleary is going to miss a game or two, just bring in someone to back up Gore and Yeldon. Tbh, I'd almost be tempted to do it now. I don't want Singletary back playing unless he is 100%. It's way too early in his career, to be taking chances with his fitness. If Murphy is still available, bring him back, and do it soon.
