Well, as it’s not a judgement, it’s eminently possible. Fwiw, even a later round RB has good chances of being a significant contributor, and there’s room for another right now, on the roster. Just about every other position, has guys ahead of whoever the pick might be, and most of them will take some unseating. I don’t see early contributors at other positions.

Ignoring the STs trio of Kicker, Punter and Long Snapper - I can't be serious about wanting/not wanting one of them with our 2nd round pick - I would have to say that I will trust Beane's judgement. We need another RB, and my instincts tell me that the value could well be way above anything else, by the time we pick, or even if we move up a (very) few spots. I'd also say that RB is the position where we will get a genuine contributor from day 1, with that pick. I'm not convinced that any other position will do the same.

Nothing is more important than helping Allen right now

I think we could have a problem if Singletary got injured. Which is why RB looks like a good value choice to me. If everyone stays healthy on Offense, we should be good to go. -
Gronkowski dead Cap: Pat's Fail
Buddo replied to BBillsWestCoast's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bungles might have changed their thinking regarding Dalton, due to the current circumstances. Burrow may simply not be able to be got ready to start, in which case Dalton does, and is being paid as such. If Dalton doesn't see his money change, or get cut, I don't see the problem with him starting for the Bungles, until Burrow becomes ready. I do think he would probably refuse any re-structure, unless he gets the same, but it eases the Bungles cap situation down the line. -
I wonder if he's still got PS eigibility. Also, for depth and competition, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see similar types of signings, due to the possible difficulties getting uDFAs signed this year. Go with someone you know about.

Don't think there's quite enough padding to that cell warroom.

Todd McShay has COVID-19, off draft broadcast
Buddo replied to Rico's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While it wouldn't surprise me if he did get the 'heads up', I always felt that he did a terrific job with teams needs and who they were going to pick in the later rounds. Tbh, I don't/didn't really care about who is most right with a draft mock, I simply would rather have listened to Mayock on draft nights, than any of the others. -
Todd McShay has COVID-19, off draft broadcast
Buddo replied to Rico's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hope he recovers well. Can't say I'll miss him, as I think he's rubbish. Neither particularly well informed, or an especially astute evaluator. I think Kiper is a better evaluator, by far, but Mayock was even more so. Mayock also was able to give you who the next team might pick, and was regularly correct. -
Good, different , perspective Gunner. While I'm sure Beane values his draft picks, there are plenty of different approaches people can make. Getting a bunch of guys in, relatively inexpensively, seems to get us with good competition, and solid finds who can become valuable to us. Those who don't, and they are generally vets with decent experience, get shipped off for low round picks. Regarding drafting and retaining 'your own', I think we are in the area where that's as much about your 'core' positions, as anything else. QB, DT, DE, CB, WR, OT, the positions you absolutely need, to begin to be competitive. (I'm giving those positions as examples, that isn't necessary a complete list) As regards the 'cheaper' FAs, I believe that some of that is a function of the brevity of contracts under CBA conditions. A lot of guys may be very talented, but it takes time for them to make the step up. Often that is in their last year before they hit FA, and teams then have difficult choices to make. Fans are incredibly quick to call players busts, and teams know that often they can move on, without any real repercussions, until a player then performs elsewhere. Back to the OP, it was a 'no brainer' to take the option. In respect of getting him e-signed, imho it would be best to do it after you have Dawkins and Milano done. So probably next off-season, when we will still have him for another year anyway, and I believe, more cap room. I'd be looking at getting Dawkins and Milano done now, as I think you can possibly get decent deals done with them. There is so much uncertainty in the World atm, that I would be advising both of them to take any fair offer with both a signing bonus, and good guarantees, asap. We genuinely do not know what is going to happen as regards this coming season, and a signing bonus could prove mighty handy in the absense of some game checks. I don't believe that White settles for anything less than top 3 money, whenever his deal gets done. I do think however, that it will be better for the franchise to get Dawkins and Milano done now, when realistically they need to be done, than White, who can wait until next year before he needs to get done.

Lombardi could very well be spreading stuff on behalf of Belichek. Way too many connections going back, for that not to be a possibility. Peter King - highly unlikely. Tua does qualify as 'fragile' with his injury history, but they haven't exactly been the sorts of minor sprains, aches and pains that keep someone out of games. Fragile he may be, but it would seem he's got the right 'tough' attitude to how they've occurred, in that it's because he plays football, and not tiddleywinks. Now, is he 'injury prone'? That might be a different argument. Certainly if I was thinking of drafting him, I'd be looking very closely at how he has been injured, and his subsequent recovery(s).

Sems to me that Howard represents an upgrade to the TE room at little expense. I like both Knox and Sweeney, but you could cut Kroft, who has done nothing so far, or Smith, and aside from what is a probable low round pick, you get good value. Beane should definitely be asking the question, imho. For a 5th or below, it's a no brainer, imho. Maybe it needs to be 2 low picks, e.g. a 5th and 7th, but as we have few needs, as such, if we can get 3 decent players from the draft with our top 3 picks, we won't be likely to be getting someone with those lower picks, who will make the roster.

EJ Manuel Reflects On His Career As The Bills Future QB
Buddo replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, Beane has admitted he stuffed up in respect of not getting another vet QB in immediately, and other mistakes - it's one of the reasons I think his (Beane) future is bright - I just think that the previous mistake was so relatively recent, they should have paid more attention, especially when you are doing this for the first time. -
EJ Manuel Reflects On His Career As The Bills Future QB
Buddo replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not read all of this, but imho, the first mistake was cutting Jackson, who was an eminently tough QB, in favour of the fragile Kolb. While it was a freak accident, Kolb was an accident waiting to happen in an actual game. Plenty of people were predicting that. Which meant that EJ was going to have to start far sooner than the supposed 'plan'. Ironically, Beane and McDermott didn't learn from some Bills past history in respect of how they mishandled Allen's first year - at least the early part of it. -
Trending upwards, but realistically, not enough information to work with so far. Don't get me wrong, I like Beane, a lot, but mistakes have been made. Thankfully, and on a positive note, many of them have been acknowledged, and I believe, lessons learned. I don't think he can be fairly judged yet, in part because he hasn't had to get guys re-signed much. He's now having to do that. Being a GM is so much more than simply drafting, and there are areas where he hasn't had to do much so far. He's not actually picked a HC, as an example, nor has he re-signed his own draft picks (yet). While he's certainly cleared a lot of old cap off the books, how he manages it going forward, is something else to be determined. I do like an awful lot of what he has done the last couple of years, whether it be drafting, FA or his staff, but he has to maintain that.

While I can understand guys who want to see White locked up asap, there are certain realities that need to be dealt with. Namely that both Dawkins and Milano are (in theory) about to start their last years on their current deals. White can wait, and tbh, he should. Next off-season is the time to get his deal done, as his contract will be at the same point that Dawkins and Milano are now. Getting Dawkins and Milano done now, gives us our best chance of both keeping their numbers lower, and retaining them. Players like to have a degree of certainty about their future, and will, to an extent, be prepared to take a little less, to get that certainty, assuming the offer is a fair one. In the current, highly uncertain, climate, I would be looking to get a new deal inked, if I was either a player or an agent. There are so many imponderables atm, that banking a signing bonus, makes an awful lot of sense, when there may, or may not, be game checks forthcoming.

Any Position the Bills wouldn't take the BPA in Round 2?
Buddo replied to BisonMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Punter, Kicker will not be happening there. Just about any other position could be in play, depending on value. QB is extremely unlikely, because we don't specifically need one,and you would expect that any graded QB left, will be way below players graded at a plethora of other positions. Beane likes to stick to his board. Where you could get an 'oddball' selection, is if the player is graded way above anyone else they have on the board. If they have a few they like at the pick, then the factors that come into play are need, and also any potential 'drop off' at a position. As an example, there will almost certainly be a WR at the pick that will have a grade on to be picked there. If they have a.n.other position graded similarly, it will probably be the a.n.other position that they pick, due to the fact that the WR class in this draft is so deep. -

The Media's Portrayal of Trump and His Presidency

Wonder what that score would be if it was done again? You know, after the sh1t has hit the fan. This isn't some sort of fantasy football. It's real and happening. I seriously doubt there are many countries worldwide, that actually 'measure up', when it comes to dealing with the pandemic. -
Living in the UK, means that I don't get to go live to games. However, the premise still stands, and without a vaccine or proven treatment, I'm in what would be considered a high risk category, and another family member is also. Even if I was prepared to risk it for myself, I cannot make that decision on behalf of someone else. i.e. Potentially catching something that could be fatal to them.

I can see where you are coming from with that, as Milano is a good player. I can see Dawkins improving further though, although I think atm you are probably correct. Thing is, a decent LT can go anywhere, whilst Milano is pretty much restricted to teams who are in a base 4-3 D. Personal preference is to keep both, but I'm concerned that Milano might think he's going to get serious money, when I really don't believe he is.
-
TBH, I'm somewhat bemused by how much Spotrac think Milano is worth. I honestly can't see a FA market for him at $12 million per. My gut instinct is that if he gets a solid, fair, offer from the Bills, his best bet is to take it, as he will be unlikely to get much more elsewhere. Imho, his highest value currently, is to the Bills, and I don't think they will be offering him that $12 million per. Now Lber is a position where you can change teams and still have success, assuming he would go to another base 4-3 team, yet his best fit atm would undoubtedly be the Bills, where he knows the scheme and the players intimately. There is always a market for decent to good LTs, and there will be a strong one for Dawkins, assuming he keeps improving and remains injury free. While I understand guys wanting to find a better player at a position, past history around the NFL shows that like QB, LTs simply don't grow on trees, and if you have a good one, you need to hang onto them, because you can struggle to find another, sometimes for years. For us to get another good LT, we are going to have to draft one with a 1st or 2nd round pick, and we aren't going to be drafting very high for the next few years, hopefully. The only way the Bills should be looking to 'move on' from Dawkins, is if they can guarantee they can put someone as good as, or better, into the position. Note the word 'guarantee'. Currently we have a very good core of young players we should be looking to retain and build around. Allen, White, Dawkins, Edmunds, Diggs, Oliver and Singletary. Add a young, good pass rusher to that group, and you have the basic requirements to be a solid team, for the next several years.
-
LT's do not grow on trees. You either have one, or you don't. LBs are an awful lot easier to replace, either by another guy, or through scheme. I like both Dawkins and Milano. Both will hopefully get re-signed. No idea what the 'price' might be for Dawkins, especially with Tunsil getting ready to gash the Texans, but the 'projected' cost of $12 million per for Milano I don't think I would pay. As others have pointed out, Milano does get dinged up. Dawkins a lot less so. The old adage still rings true, that the mvps on a team, are those guys who are available come Sundays. As regards the LT position, the Bills have only had 3 who could be called decent to good, in the last approximately 20 years. Peters, Glenn and Dawkins. In those 20 (approximayely) years, they have had loads of LBs who would be called decent to good. Now, no doubt there could be huge arguments over the how and why of this (i.e. the inability to find good LTs) over that time period, but the fact remains, getting a decent to good LT has proven to be a lot harder than finding decent to good LBs.

That pretty much seals it then - there will be no NFL in August or September. Just about every time Trump has pontificated about any sort of timeline to do with Covid19, he's been way off. He does appear to be learning a bit though, as he has couched it as 'hope to' rather than 'for sure', and he isn't being committed. About the only chance there is, imho, of the NFL starting on time, is if there is either an effective treatment available, or a vaccine - neither of which is currently likely to be available due to the need for testing, and then mass production. If they wanted to play in empty stadia, that might be possible, or perhaps with very limited crowds, so social distancing can be maintained, then that's about the only other viable alternative I can see.
