Some good points- which is why I will bring up the name Jim Haslett. Why the man gets such a bad rap- I don't know, nor care. I like him.
The point I will ad is... how do you feel about an individual such as Jim Haslett, a former Bill, who would love to have this job, who would bring an uncommon level of enthusiasm and appreciation for this position? Despite mediocre success, aside from his NFL Coach of the Year season, I think it stands to reason that he would bring a little more to this table- versus N.O and St. L.
To these other guys- it's just a job. If they don't want to be here and/or if we have to sell the ranch to get them, then FK 'em... I'm sick of Buffalo being put down.

My guess is it's a little bit of everything. We have a meddling, 91 year old owner, a losing culture that is extremely difficult to shed (see Cubs, Lions, Sabres, Browns, etc) and to top it off sh*tty weather. A lot of people from Buffalo are sensitive to criticism of the city because they/we are from here. We are a city that dwells on the glory days of the past, whether iit be our sports teams or the economy. Our city and our sports teams have done nothing innovative to improve the situations that have been dealt to us. For example Pittsburgh was every bit the blue collar, factory town that Buffalo was/is. The difference is Pittsburgh has changed with the times and has moved towards being a tech centered city. Think of it from an outsiders perspective...why the hell would anyone want to come here and deal with Ralph, 7 (not 8) homes games a year, our losing culture and the fact that is cold as f*ck 7 months out of the year.
I don't know where you're from, but Buffalo can't change with the times due mainly to the fact that it is geographically situated in the State of New York- where scumbags like Chuck Schumer, Eliot Spitzer and David 'the Seeing Eye Dog' Paterson eat well and carry-on the prophecy of 'if it's a bad idea- let's do it', compliments of the hard working upper lower-class (there is no middle class). Buffalo is socio-economically trapped- as is all of Upstate NY (outside of Capitaland). Aside from that- Buffalo is a great F**king town. If someone doesn't like it- they ought to be tipped-over in a porta-patriot-potty.

jim haslett (do you remember how horrible he was in new orleans? probably one of the worst HC's in the history of the NFL).
retards.
the future is going to be painful
Yes, especially the year (2000) when he was awarded NFL coach of the year. Unfortunately, Haslett only made it to the UFL Grande Salami this year.
Don't be a dummy.

I was at the Rochester airport earlier today and I saw Big Tuna Parcells having a drink with George Siefert.

Martz is not the best option for Buffalo because of the climate Ralph Wilson Stadium has to deal with. I would rank Martz even behind Schottenheimer Jr. The order I would rank the coaching options is:
Cowher
Billick
Rivera
Option 4 - TBD
Option 5 - TBD
Haslett
Schottenheimer Jr
Martz
Option 4 - Denny Green
Option 5 - Jerry Glanville
What's Martz know about plaing outside in the elements? Can anyone dig-up his HC W-L record in outdoor games in the months of Nov-Jan?

Tells me one or both is a member of this board and is paying attention to the chatter.

Thats like saying Flutie was our best QB since Kelly.
Which is 100% correct.

There's a awful lot of A) around here... buy hey... ignorance is bliss. Good post.

Pike just needs to put some meat on his bone. He's the one to get.
-
Print out that pic PS print of Buffalo Bill Cowher in the BB cap and coat.

Too bad we couldn't have arranged a trade involving Kolb and our former dead-beat LT. I'd take him, but I like JP Orton more if he's relieved of his mt. high duties and drafting Pike in the 2nd.

Ray Handley & Rich Kotite- CO-HCs
Loosen-up... it's a joke... like this thread... it's the same list of candidates we've been tossing around for weeks... all year..., but not a Shottenheimer mentioned...???

Indeed, nice post. I can hardly believe I'm not the only one in Russ Brandon's corner.
Nevertheless, I am severly disappointed at the lack of ground-clearing ambition (leadership qualities) that most posters & repliers have on this site. Bandwagoners, also known as followers, Democrats... We are blessed with living in a free country where it is OK to have an opinion, ok to take a stand, ok to stand behind unpopular belief... yet, everytime some new tidbit comes out, everyone runs to the other side of the ship. Stupidity runs rampant here, unfortunately.
Come on people- take a look at this post by billnutinhouston and mimick the standard.
I wish Darthice would melt in a puddle of my pi55.

Was he reading that off a 3x5 card that Smithers handed him?
Seriously though, Ralph seemed to be contradicted on a few points. I hope it is true and Nix has authority to interview whomever he wants, but let's not forget that Brandon is still in charge as he was also promoted to CEO.
Exactly, and Brandon being a marketing man is why we will get why we're asking for- a high-profile coach... if we can find one to take the job. Give Russ some credit and quit blaming drafts on the man. He put asses in seats and has avoided sectioning off massive sections of a 72,000 seat stadium with black tarp.
-
this guarantees we get a so so coach and a so so team. Ralph is so old school its not funny. kiss the ring and you are in. doesn't matter if you have any track record of success. let the mediocrity continue. I'll bet Nix came cheap as well. 70 years old? is Tom Landry available to coach as well? is he still alive? gosh it sucks to be a bills fan.
...and with the money RW saved on the GM hire, he can (in his head) justify throwing the ranch at Buffalo Bill Cowher, who, by the way, should be excited to come here and play with our running backs- Lynch (the underachiever sometimes know as beast mode) and a new type of Slash (D3 Jackson).

I think you're on the right track. In the name of selling tickets, they have no choice.
-
I am tired of developing Quarterbacks. I like JP Orton. I want to win now. I also want to drink now- and am. This team was in playoff contention up to two weeks ago. This team...
With better coaching and a pair of tackles and a dude like Orton, alongside two brilliant coordinating minds on O & D, plus no more defense called Tampa, and a set of balls coupled with a philosophy to actually heave the ball downfield, in addition to hiring a motivating killer on defense, and lastly 80 other minor adjustments, we should be back to the 90's.
-
Now do the same list for Nixs' contributions to San Diego... where there was good coaching behind the scenes and on the field.
Besides- our problem is not the draft (future or past), it's been the O & D schemes and lack of enthusiasm and bad game day coaching.

I know that most fans wouldn't support Tressman from the Allouettes of the CFL, but he might actually be a good choice. He has NFL coaching experience and has had some great success as a Head Coach in the CFL. Whats the difference between getting one fo the better CFL coaches, or a College coach? Fans might not like it cause its not a big NFL name, but it could be the best option.
As for the TV studio comment, he is there for a couple days a week (maybe 2-3?) working, as a coach he is there working 7 days, with LONG hours so being close to home is a huge advantage to most with a family and that kind of work.
If you are a big time head coach, why do you need to show off and be a saviour/legend. Cowher already is basically a legend in Pittsburgh and is more then likely already a HOF coach with nothing left to prove to the league. He had a long tenure as a HC in Pittsburgh and built a great team that has one the big game, whats left?
[/quote
Because the human nature of an overachiever would be to take a mess (Buffalo Bills) and turn it around, furthermore establishing a legacy.
Nevertheless, you didn't state anything I didn't already realize (like working for TV 2-3 days per week... long tenure in Pitt... big deal). The man is primed to (most likely) cash in on one of the most delicious paydays in coaching history. He should work for it. He should be honered by the challenge. That's how winners think.
Backtrack your thoughts and take a look at the rubbish Bill Parcells has taken-in under his wings and turned-around in his career.
