NFL should eliminate PAT kicks
Sisyphean Bills replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, if they did away with the kicking game they'd have to come up with another way to inject too many commercials. Maybe they could take a commercial break after every completed pass? Every attempt? -
http://grammartips.homestead.com/inside.html Yep. Unfortunately, he felt from his scouting input that JP Losman was just as good as Manning, Roethlisberger, and Rivers. So, rather than all in for Big Ben, he went with another option that was "just as good." In hindsight, it was a compounded franchise crippling decision.

While not saying Newton won't develop into a complete NFL QB, he does have much to do to get there. Like Vick in Atlanta, he can be exciting as a runner, but he's not likely to win very consistently doing it.

Ndamukong Suh kicks Matt Schaub in groin....
Sisyphean Bills replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Must suck to be JP Losman. Even the intentional cheap shot thrown elbow that blew out his knee is credited to the Trentative. -
It will be the first time Gailey has beaten a Rex Ryan team, if it happens. But, even a blind squirrel can find a nut.

Ndamukong Suh kicks Matt Schaub in groin....

The guy has some talent. Too bad he doesn't let dominant play establish his reputation instead of this use of the Jack Tatum bag of dirty tricks. -
Ndamukong Suh kicks Matt Schaub in groin....
Sisyphean Bills replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Suh must be enraged to be missing his turkey dinner or something on these Thanksgiving Day games. Why do these sorts of cheap shot stunts on a nationally televised game with bazillions of cameras covering the action? Well, maybe it's just stupidity. -
Well. The defense isn't giving it up like the 1950 doormat NY Yanks.

Seeing Sanchez get blown up by his lineman's rear end, I couldn't help but wonder what sort of rule they'd have pulled out if it had been Brady instead. "He was down by the back of his shoes" or something.
-
It might not be quite that dramatic. Cam Newton was a 1 year wonder, and RG3 was not well-known across the country until his senior (or technically junior after the redshirt) season. So there is a little similarity that they both "came out of nowhere" in the general hype factory sense. Their games, builds, etc. are not very comparable however. No disagreement on that.

Would you give up Roscoe Parrish, Donte Whitner, Marshawn Lynch and Lee Evans for Big Ben?

Failed Top Draft Picks in the Polian Era
Sisyphean Bills replied to Packerland Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He wasn't the GM, but he was part of the team that hauled Bruce Smith, Derrick Burroughs, Frank Reich, and Andre Reed. Some other names that Polian was GM over the drafting of: Butch Rolle, Mark Pike, Jamie Mueller, Leon Seals, Keith McKellar, Howard Ballard, Carlton Bailey, Martin Mayhew, Marvcus Patton, Mike Lodish, Al Edwards, Kurt Schulz, and Mark Maddox. Maybe not stars, but good solid role players that helped pull the sweeps for the Bills to get to 4 straight Super Bowls. And let's not forget he was instrumental in working deals to get Jim Kelly and Kent Hull to Buffalo. http://www.buffaloru...ls-wall-of-fame Edit: Stack that up against the Modrak era of Bills drafting, where the bigger hits were Aaron Schobel and Lee Evans, and there were multiple top of the 1st round disasters. Nobody bats 1.000 in baseball or the draft. -
Why I like the Buddy System
Sisyphean Bills replied to BisonMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, with a few more wins, we can say he took a 7-9 team under Jauron and transformed it into a 7-9 team under Gailey. -
Seriously flawed. Landry Jones isn't as hyped as Andrew Luck.

Fixed.

Why I like the Buddy System
Sisyphean Bills replied to BisonMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You forgot the full data fitting argument. Nix gets credit for the good picks in 2009, and Jauron (and now Modrak) get the blame for the bad ones. Spiller was someone else's idea until very recently, now he's clearly a Nix pick. And let's not forget Nix gets credit for all the good picks San Diego made and before that Buffalo in its golden era. Anybody that's met the man can see that A.J. Smith isn't very opinionated or strong willed. PS: As far as the buddy system, I agree that swimming alone is dumb, -

Aaron Curry waived by Oakland
Sisyphean Bills replied to HalftimeAdjustment's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Zig-zagging all over the place? Mike Williams actually started 55 games in his career, Curry started 39 games in his career and has 191 tackles ... while Maybin never did much of anything at any point in his career and has 11 tackles total. To be a bigger bust than Maybin, you'd have to spontaneously burst into flames walking out to shake the commissioner's hand at Radio City. I don't think he's the answer either, but "a bigger bust than Maybin" is too extreme. -
For the simple fact that there are so few elite franchise QBs in any draft -- heck many drafts have 0 such QBs as you've stated. It's nice to stand on principle and refuse to attempt to develop anyone that's not blessed coming out of college, but it's also living in denial. It's tantamount to raising the white flag and saying that you'd rather be a 4 to 7 win a year team until the next 1983 QB class rolls around and you can get a franchise QB with your second 1st round pick. How often does that happen? About once in Ralph's lifetime. The Bills have been living with a mix of stop-gaps and misled scouting since Jim Kelly retired. Just because they blew the call with JP Losman hugely doesn't mean 2 regimes later you shouldn't even try to develop a QB. Edit: FWIW, drafting a good prospect in the 3rd-7th round to develop does not mean a team has to pass on the next Peyton Manning they see on their board. These things are not mutually exclusive by any stretch. Buddy has no record in San Diego. He was a scout, not the GM.

Matt Stafford / Lions Implosion
Sisyphean Bills replied to jumbalaya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hmm. Wonder why that didn't work for us though. -
I understand your point, and clearly anyone with a pair of working neurons under their helmet would want the franchise guy, the next Elway, over the next solid backup. But, my point is about building a winning franchise. Fortunately, Fitz has shown to be very durable, but he is one missed block and crushing hit away from getting knocked out every snap he takes. Investing a 3rd round pick in a prospect that might be able to play in the future is the intelligent move for a team that has Tyler Thigpen as its primary backup. Speaking of question marks, would you rather develop a question mark for a couple of years behind Fitz or go through seasons with certainty that you have a guy that looks awful in pre-season scrimmages as your backup? You are correct that not bringing in any real competition at the QB position does make Fitzpatrick more comfortable in his role. And, that seems to be really what Gailey's concern has been as he often talks about not letting his QB get down and expresses his unyielding confidence. Buddy's first draft class is now ready to be evaluated. Spiller has emerged as a player, but the rest of that draft can't get much more than a rating of "poor". I'm glad you haven't lost your faith in Nix' abilities though.
