True. He's never been good in pass pro. I think Jon's statement is a bit stronger than that. If Jackson is truly the best blitz pickup guy in the NFL, then CJ being poor in pass pro is more than a little drop off, no? I don't think it's any great secret that Chan is trying to play match-up football. If the defense drops 8 in the box, he's going to want to throw. If they drop back in coverage, he's going to run it. The trouble is that it isn't a secret anymore than he wants to split carries between CJ and Fred. Def.Coor. know what he wants to do, so when CJ is on the field -- guess what -- they stack the box. Chan will probably try to throw it, CJ is poor in pass pro, and if they run it the odds are good you'll get ahead of Chan in down and distance. When Fred is on the field, the defense plays a little more honest and Chan calls a few more running plays. The statistics suggest Chan is favoring the passing game, then Fred, and lastly CJ, when he's trying to take what the defense is "giving" him. All of which is not to defend Chan or suggest he's doing a great job. His record is abundantly clear.

Think Seatle would consider trading Flynn?
Sisyphean Bills replied to jhemmer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. Not before the game. -
I wasn't sad to see him go. How could you forget Samford, Connecticut, or Auburn? While he wasn't as good as the guy before or after him, he was no Bill Lewis.

Well, Gailey won in college. Giff Smith even helped deliver some great recruiting classes. Gailey just couldn't beat the good college teams and stuck with a QB that choked in crunch time.

CJ winded? He doesn't think so.

Glad I wasn't the only one that found Chan's comments about being 'winded' curious and worth following up on. It's still not clear that Chan was lying. CJ played the 1st, 3rd (where he said that he tapped out), 5th and 6th drives of the first half. CJ played the 1st and 3rd drives in the 2nd half. The Bills had 11 total drives and the last one was a 2 minute drill. So, according to the rotation, CJ did get more drives. Reference: http://www.nfl.com/l...UF_Gamebook.pdf What I find ridiculous is that Megamind hasn't figured out better ways to get both his great backs on the field at the same time or more involved in the passing game. Spiller is better in space than standing on the sideline. -
anyone else kind of glad the season is over?

The Marshawn Lynch trade; three years later
Sisyphean Bills replied to peterpan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If trading Lynch was a necessity, they should have traded him during the draft and translated him into more picks. For a team with bare cupboards and what some have described as "an expansion team like roster," how can getting more picks not be considered an option? "We wanted three guys," doesn't hold much water when one of the three guys is dumped at the trade deadline for future picks. -
Imagine you are the coach and you have a series of plays that you want to call. You want to set up a certain play for a certain player. You call several of these plays in the sequence. Then, the guy you are trying to set up taps out of the game. He says, "Coach, I need a blow." Tell me, are you overwhelmed with confidence? Or are you a little disturbed? Maybe even annoyed? That is the point. Maybe it isn't all Gailey. Maybe there is something else going on here. I was annoyed by the other poster. I felt, he wasn't interested in discussing the point, but was just trying to shout down the idea and stop any chance of a conversation. Spiller said what he said; denying it doesn't change it. Before you go off the deep end on me and think that I am just defending Gailey, you should know that I am not. I am no fan of Chan Gailey. Never was and I think he has made plenty of mistakes. I was merely suggesting a possibility, as a point of debate. That possibility is not very palatable to folks that have decided CJ Spiller is better than Barry Sanders and Chan Gailey is the stupidest person ever. I understand that. On the other hand, this is a discussion board, and facing points of view that aren't perfectly in line with your preconceptions is a chance to think about something other than "Fitz sucks" and "Chan is full of ****".

Here is the actual quote: "He had two good runs in that first drive, he gets winded and he comes out." It's not at all clear that it was Chan's decision to pull the guy out of the game. What he actually said implies the opposite. Perhaps Chan is annoyed that the guy won't voluntarily stay on the field and has decided to give guys that are more interested the work?

Do you mean Flutie? I don't think the comparison is a good one, nor do I think the city was entirely against Doug Flutie. You can thank Tom Donahoe and Gregg "Suspended Indefinitely" Williams for letting him go. Oh, and the big guy in Detroit... -
Agreed. Chan may not have even bothered giving him a playbook.
