Blast from the past: Dick Jauron

No doubt, he is a great person. Too bad he couldn't hire even a vaguely competent offensive coordinator. It would've been cool to see a nice guy win. -
Cannot believe the lack of respect for Jake Long....

What's odd is this thread. Did anyone at all start a thread claiming Long wasn't worth a big contract or the Dolphins are better without him? -

Should the Bills trade UP to #1???

OK, I hear you. You sound totally convinced on Manuel. No harm in having an opinion. It's all good. FWIW, I am not 100% sold on Manuel. -
Should the Bills trade UP to #1???

So, let me rephrase my question. If the Patriots had the #1 overall pick, Bill Belichick would choose EJ Manuel? -
Should the Bills trade UP to #1???

Is that because you think he is the best player in the entire draft or because you think he will be one of the 5 best QBs in the NFL in 4 years? -

Oh, just thinking that taking a Pro Bowl caliber lineman in this draft might not be the sexy move, but it might be the best and right move down the road. But, Geno or Barkley or Nassib will definitely be more instantly marketable. -

Well, the Bills are completely flush with great OTs in Glenn and Pears as starters and Welch and many others as camp fodder. -

Gibson interested in bills but bills never called

I think he had to call first. You know. So the redial button would work. http://instantrimshot.com/ -
What if the reason is not to let him down easy, but to leave him holding the smoldering bag as the whole thing implodes? It gives them someone to point at and another year of breathing room if the poop hits the fan. On the other hand, if Buddy pulls a bunch of miracles out of his keister, they're geniuses for keeping him around.

crazy trade thought - trade Stevie

Hey, if you're gutting everything of any value, trade Stevie and Spiller, too. -
Bucs make Goldson highest paid safety

Hunh? You don't want them to pay Byrd anywhere close, but if they wait until the summer to start negotiations then they can give him "a similar contract"? I'm clearly missing something. Was this originally in Chinese and poorly translated? (I kid, I kid.) My point, which you disagreed with before agreeing with, was that Byrd is tagged and will get the average of the top paid guys at his position. So, unless they remove the tag, the Bills are going to have to eat the sausage and pay him a contract somewhere close to what Goldson got, your druthers not withstanding. -
While this is true (and I didn't mean to imply no one was available), it means the options have narrowed to someone brand new to the unit coming in. That's a bigger adjustment, even if the new guy is decent. At any rate, I'm confident that the Bills will field a team and find bodies for all the holes. But without knowing who those bodies are going to be, it's a tough sell to imply it's no big deal, etc. Again, it's a proactive vs. reactive thing... [edit] Which brings us back around to the other wobbly argument, "you can't re-sign everyone". It is certainly true that if Levitre wanted out of Buffalo, there was no way to stop him. But, the point there is that a front office can actually plan ahead for the eventuality and have a plan B ready to execute. Maybe plan B is to draft Womack at #8. At this point, it's anything but clear and has nothing to do with "warm fuzzy" feelings.

Repeat the mantra. It does little to hide a couple of facts. The Bills spent a lot of time trying to fill the LG position after Ruben Brown and they even wasted a ton of money on the likes of Derrick Dockery (which indirectly led to the Jason Peters situation and Eugene Parker facing off with Russ Brandon). Secondly, the Bills, despite knowing that they were probably going to lose Levitre, had no one in the bag as a replacement. Compare this to the Patriots failure to re-sign Wes Welker and how quickly they snapped up the next guy in line. Heck, the Bills even lost out on their own backup LG while the better guards were getting snapped up. "Easily replaced" is a good sound bite, but it implies there actually is a replacement. And, before we go down the path of "the draft has lots of OL talent", the Bills simultaneously put themselves behind the 8 ball in the QB position. If they throw all their draft chips to chase Geno Smith up the draft board, when do they tap this OL talent? In Buddy, we trust.

Isn't that a foregone conclusion seeing as how he got a franchise tag and all?
