  1. I worry about Bill if they draft a RB or CB. On the other hand, they are just about due to draft Spiller's replacement. A serious answer to the original question is that the Bills need to hit on several picks. They have to add dominant players to their roster. They are just treading water (or worse) to pick up 1 average starter a draft. And, treading water will get the whole thing blown up for another rebuild in a few years like clockwork.
  2. Reaching out of desperation is the right thing to do. It's exciting like a hail mary pass. Very low percentage play, good chance that the opposition wins, but the adrenaline rush for just that one moment is the next best thing to winning just before the ball bounces harmlessly off the field...
  3. 8-8 would mean Buddy pulled a golden QB out of a rabbit hole just before riding off into the sunset and that the new coaching staff probably deserves coach-of-the-year honors across the board. Expecting 8-8?
  4. Well, if the Bills draft the next Jimmy Clausen, then they might even stay healthy on the lines for once and still go 2-14.
  5. Whatever his price, there's no market.
  6. Wait. To check down?
  7. He's got a new twitter account for Lennay Kekua?
  8. I'm imagining now a 5-wides look with Stevie (when healthy) and 4 UDFA scrubs and Wood (when healthy) direct snapping it to Spiller every down...
  9. Speculating about the record when we don't know who the QB might be seems premature.
  10. Oh, I agree. I have little doubt that Brandon was making a stark comment about "business as usual" moving ahead with "his" team.
  11. More accurately Brandon stated he wanted to begin an analytics program and layer it into all aspects of the operation. That's not exactly a switch on the wall that he threw and suddenly the team is making every decision based on complete, proven statistical models and data analysis.
  12. Was that before or after they were equating Tom Brady and Trent Edwards?
  13. Probably a statistical system that could address questions such as, "What are the odds of dialing a wrong number and actually reaching the person you were intending to call?"
  14. Interesting take. How many players that John Butler drafted while working for the Bills are still in the NFL?
  15. On the other hand, it's not easy to put forward a strong, positive image if one's first year is pointed towards a "full-on tank mode". I hope it isn't the case they are betting it all on Marrone's track record at Syracuse of pumping some life into what was a program on life support by hitching themselves up to an artificial lung machine.
  16. That's not really the impression one gets reading the article. It says there is interest by the Bills, no real market for some of their free agents (meaning they can be had for at or near the minimum), and yet Nix stated they wouldn't be pursuing them until later in the summer or even early in the season. As the author points out, Nix seems to be suggesting they won't be making moves on any free agents until Byrd's deal is done. Rebuilding "via mid to low tier FA's" on the cheap is not really even hinted at there.
  17. Best part of that clip is the "What do the fans know?" comment from the studio. With 20-20 hindsight, they knew a ton more than he did.

  19. USC after Barkley went down was a much, much different team. They had the same great WRs, but the 2nd QB couldn't get the ball to them. So, there are two sides to every coin.
  20. Since you're good with numbers, I'm sure you know the difference between an average and a sample. By the way, thanks for providing a definition for the term long-term starter. I'm sure that's precisely what was meant in the off-the-cuff analytics.
  21. Not good for the thirsty. But Whaley can start draft a QB with his 1st round pick every year now.
  22. Sounds like he has a gut feeling. Or 2. PS: Assuming the Bills draft a QB, he'll be a starter by default and that's whether he's any good or not. Buddy's gut is probably telling him the same.
  23. Don't forget that the more lemons you draft at QB, the better the lemonade.
