  1. On the third hand, most of the threads today are ebullient. Not.
  2. What does this mean for the hurry-up offense? Do they put the helmet with the speaker on someone else's head?
  3. When is the press conference? Schefter saying he'll play the last pre-season scrum. I'm going to get my popcorn now...
  4. Thankfully, they saved some money by cutting Jackson early.
  5. If you mean worthless as the games don't count, well, I think we all got a grasp of that. If you mean worthless as there is no reason to throw a brick through the TV or cry your eyes out, well, yeah. If you mean worthless as far as evaluating players and how they perform under adverse situations, then, well, you are wrong. That is exactly what this game was all about. And, like the thread title, there is going to be a little "negativity" in the coaches meetings watching that tape. I forgot the smiley. Yes, it is historically, but like you said, hard to say in that game. But, Kolb's performance was dreadful and ended with a concussion... seemed to be "just like a real game" in a sad sense... fitting for a thread titled "negativity". Bring in the next ex-Cardinals scrub, I guess. <sigh>
  6. Well, seeing Kolb get sacked with his back to the line of scrimmage was interesting. The 3rd game is the game that is supposed to be most "like a real game" of the 4, right?
  7. Or, he and the rest of the offense will watch the defense get pushed around on wheels 75% of games.
  8. It's a really long trip to Maryland.
  9. Sorry. I thought that's what you meant. I wasn't trying to pointedly contradict your post. So, you were good with the logic the Bills employed to extend Dick Jauron after a run of victories as well, then?
  10. Haven't all the rule changes truly diminished the impact of a "shut down corner"? Why invest top draft picks or big pieces of the cap in a position that, by continued rule changes, has been eroded and marginalized?
  11. Seems to me there is truth to both sides. The Bills have drafted very poorly. They were in the same cycle as the San Francisco 49ers for a long time, but the 49ers are back on top and have a roster crammed with talent. The Bills are starting over again. The Bills have gone down the path of replacing one RB or CB with a rookie every few years over and over again ad nauseum and it hasn't built a team. Replacing your good players with a cheaper player at the same position every 3 years is the definition of treading water. Further, the Bills have also cyclically hired new middle management and failed to break the cycle of ineptitude. One wonders how an organization can continue to make such apparent bad hires or if these people are the public fodder, the sacrificial lambs brought before the mobs, powerless to change entrenched policies and practices that neuter their ability to compete on the football field. Either way, the executives of the organization, the guys that keep getting promoted with total disregard for the on-field results, no doubt enjoy their Teflon status.
  12. I'm surprised this thread waited for his promotion.
  13. Doubt that he meant it literally. But, Dareus did play like a journeyman last year. Or, if you prefer an invisible man.
  14. The Modrak era in Buffalo was one with many major disappointments. That's why I find it hard to dump 100% of the blame on Dick Jauron. Jauron is never going to throw somebody under the bus, even if he's completely innocent. And he wasn't. He was a part of the total miss on Maybin, but when you look at the Modrak drafts when Jauron wasn't around, you just go numb with all the !@#$ ups. Which scheme features a DE on the bench again?
  15. It does help explain why he falls over so easily though.
  16. Regardless of how you view him overall, he did have a amazing run through the playoffs that year.
  17. Never underestimate the power of complete delusion.
  18. BTW, the 2010 draft class was a load of junk as far as the QB position specifically. Sam Bradford and a bunch of scrubs. OTOH, there were a lot of good TEs in that draft class, which happens to be a position the Bills organization places nearly zero value on...
  19. Even if you have a football woody for the work Spiller has delivered, one should not forget that the Bills plan was to keep 3 backs that season. Picking the best RB in the draft was dubious for the team lacking talent in so many places other than RB, but this questionable approach was compounded by the fact the Bills didn't even try to move one of the other backs during the draft to get more picks and improve other areas. And, let's not pretend there weren't teams interested in trading for Lynch. There were. Buddy and Chan turned a deaf ear.
  20. Regardless of how Manuel turns out, there will always be a difference between going after what one wants and showing up a day late and a million dollars short.
  21. I was still mulling over the implication that winning the Super Bowl was the only way any team can show organizational competence.
