This kid has to walk in the door and be our pass rush because the Bills didn't get him any help in this draft. Maybe Chris Ellis will come out of nowhere??
Yes, I fully understand that you would like anybody that criticizes the Bills to leave this board. Good luck with that.
The people that have formed up the circle jerk session to suggest that Jairus Byrd is "strictly a FS" need to pull their heads out of their buttocks. “We’re looking at trying him at free safety,” said Catavolos. “He can play a number of positions for us. I think that he can be a productive free safety. He’s got excellent ball skills, he reads the quarterback well, he plays the ball well in the air. So this is a flexible athlete for us.”
Why stop there? Why not break it down into press corners and zone corners? And guys that can play the slot vs. those that can't? It's different skills and responsibilities, right? How about guys that can blitz off the corner vs. those that can't? Or guys that are good tacklers vs. guys that have ball skills? I'm sure if we make enough categories, we can make it look like the Bills still have a shitload of major holes in the defensive backfield!
The trouble is that the Patriots are not the only team in the AFC East that the Bills are looking at through their windshield. There is nobody in the rearview mirror!
The Jets and Dolphins are not going to be built as finesse teams that try and trick out a few wins. Parcells is going to build a meat grinder in Miami, we know that for certain. And, the Jets have to be at least thinking about smashmouth with their new coach and new QB situation.
No. And he would've been a better "wasted pick."
A.Q. Shipley is still on the board, too.
(Oh, and I heard this drunk guy say that you don't need a LT if you run the Tampa 2. )
Who'd they really lose in the secondary?
McKelvin, McGee, Simpson, Corner, Whitner, Wilson, Florence, Fox, Scott, Youboty, and Wendling are still under contract. Now they added 3 more guys.
I like the player.
The pick? Not sure. Are the Bills running up the white flag on Levy's first draft? Or are the secondary problems, like some claim, wholly due to the front 7? To be sure, there is no pass rush and that hurts any DB. But, the safeties just haven't done enough and at times have been outplayed by the reserves.
But, they never took the field together at PSU, right? Pos was done in 06 and Maybin was with the varsity only 2 years. Heck Maybin never started until a few games into the 08 season.
Yeah, but what do you know about football, coach?
Why is it again that the Jaguars are going to hand Henderson to the Bills? Is it that Del Rio is pulling out all the stops to sabotage his team and get fired?
If you were to be critical of the Bills draft then a good start would be that the Bills really haven't helped themselves in defending the run. Like we saw with Jim Leonhard last year, the Bills may be completely fine at S, for example, if they only had the front 7 to put the opponent in bad down/distance situations and then made plays. In both of the first 2 rounds they went pass defense first. BUt, the weakness of the defense is that they just aren't strong against the running game. The addition of Stroud improved them against the run but only just barely. They have a long way to go to be considered very good or elite.
A second criticism might be that the Bills drafted defense first when the weaker side of the team is the offense. Then, the current brain trust just doesn't trade down, so it's a moot point in many ways.
