Levy Found Great Character in Whitner...
Sisyphean Bills replied to VJ91's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of course, you aren't sure. You don't know the difference between a troll and someone that has been on this board since it began and made a sarcastic jibe. Even with a smiley clue for the dumb and dumber. The Bills got ripped on righteously for their "genius" of trying to rebuild a team from its defensive secondary with a small, slow, and not-so-instinctive SAF. They passed on several players that are now considered franchise players for a guy that made 1 pick 6 against a terrible QB with maybe the slowest windup and delivery I've ever seen. In short: big !@#$ing deal. -

It's not like his big play came from picking off Byron Leftwich or something. -

Comparing Kevin Gilbride to Turk Schonert is an apples to oranges comparison. http://www.buffalobills.com/team/coaches/t...bc-738b89634a77 Note the dates: He was out of the NFL in 96,97,02,04 and other than Buffalo and Tampa (where he worked for Sam Wyche) never lasted more than 1 year in other positions. http://www.giants.com/team/coach.asp?coach_id=5 He failed as a HC in San Diego, but he's been a steady and fairly prolific OC over a ~20 year NFL career (he was out of the NFL for 1 year). Gilbride's problem in Buffalo wasn't that he couldn't coach. It was that the front office decided to blow up an offense that was statistically amongst the best Buffalo ever had. To spell it out clearly, this has been Buffalo's pattern throughout the last decade. They are just a revolving door for players and coaches and are continuously treading water and trying to backfill positions with rookies players and/or new coaches while they sign a big name player like Spikes, Bledsoe, Stroud, or Owens to keep fans buying. -

Just sit back in a Tampa-2 zone and wait for Brees to make mistakes. Sounds like a plan. -

Crabtree to re-enter draft
Sisyphean Bills replied to Wilson from Gamehendge's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If they don't ask themselves this question, they should: Is Crabtree driven to become the very best football player he can become or is he focused on something else? The answer is crystal clear, IMO. -

Every team has flaws. The difference between a playoff team and a team that is 7-9 is not an overwhelming deficiency in talent. Every year, there are teams that turn it around and get better. In fact, it is defying the odds to remain mediocre for so long. This team went 11-5 last year: Pennington, Brown, Polite, Camarillo, Ginn, Fasano, Long, Smiley, Satele, Ndukwe, Carey, Langford, Ferguson, Holiday, Roth, Crowder, Ayodele, Porter, Allen, Goodman, Bell, and Hill. That is not a star studded lineup by any stretch. Finally, it is a easier to become a star when you play on a good team that wins a lot of games and is thus on national TV most of the time. You're not going to see many Detriot Lions being regarded as good players, even if they are. -

Not quite the same, though. Laughing at a Dullfan after the Bills romp on his team isn't quite the same as telling some make-believe group of Bills fans that they suck so one doesn't have to concern themselves with the issues. But, yes, we're all deranged Bills fans. And, were better to discuss the issues than right here, right now? -
Crabtree to re-enter draft
Sisyphean Bills replied to Wilson from Gamehendge's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not much of a question, really. He was interested in baseball before, during, and after Tampa Bay selected him #1 overall. They chose him #1 overall, gave him some gifts, and thereby blew his NCAA eligibility at Auburn. He was playing baseball as a professional when the Raiders drafted him in the 7th round. He even continued to play baseball while he was signed to play football for the Raiders. Al Davis saw it as a marketing opportunity and a chance to get a rare talent for the final stretch of the NFL season. Baseball was a factor both times. For Crabtree, the baseball thing is not part of the equation. If he sits out an entire year, playing catch in his backyard with friends, I'm not going to bet his stock isn't going to tumble. (In fact, I bet it already has tumbled.) -

And I thought the point here was to define your personal preferences and passions as universally correct and held by the intellectually superior, albeit ill-defined, faction. -
Crabtree to re-enter draft

Bo Jackson went from the #1 overall pick to a 7th rounder (183rd overall) the next year. I'm not sure if the baseball thing was more of a positive (he stayed in top shape) or a negative (he's not interested). I'm just glad the Bills "missed out" on Crabtree. -
"7-9 isn't good enough." "We haven't given the fans much to cheer about lately." Guess those guys are just "pessimists." (That'd be Russ Brandon and Ralph Wilson for the record.) What's amazing is that the owner and COO/GM can see plainly that there is work to do, yet the Polyanna fans just keep blaming the "negative pessimists".

Yep. Oh, and "SUPER BOWL!"

Since, this is a Buffalo Bills message board, both praise and criticism will be posted here and much of that commentary is specifically about the game of football. (Admittedly, some posts here are over the top.) There is no contradiction whatsoever in praising Dick Jauron the human being and criticizing his football record. He's a great person, more people should be like him in fact. But, his record as a head football coach in the NFL is amongst the worst of all time for his longevity. The trouble with the apologists pleas of "never had any talent" and their other pet blame games is that these are false argument based on the notion that the head of the football team can be cleanly excised from the situation and all failures within that organization are one-way and always come from the other direction. "It's never his fault that everyone around him let's him down." This line of argument can't see the forest for the trees because it is field of focus is honed in on a patch of bark of a particular tree. Take the sloppily contrived QB excuse. In this one, the failing of the organization as a whole is dumped on a QB. It's never mentioned that the organization drafted the QB, developed the QB, had multiple off-seasons to seek out better alternatives, had the money under the cap for alternatives, passed on better alternatives in the draft many times, had a number of OCs and QB coaches come through learning on the job, nor even that this was just another in a long line of failed QBs and has a history as a systemic problem for the organization. Using the fact that JP Losman turned out to be a bust as some universal catch-all to excuse the Bills franchise for their historic ineptitude, the last decade of no playoffs, or Dick Jauron's own terrible W-L record is self-delusion. Yes, JP was not good enough; but, he was "good enough" to hoodwink this franchise and set them back at least 5 full seasons. It comes down to one simple thing: Winning. This is a competitive game and as Herm Edwards once ranted "you play to win the game" and ultimately to win championships. It is Dick Jauron's job as the head coach of this team to be in charge and win this team a Super Bowl. "If the head isn't in charge, you have nothing but chaos and nothing good comes out of that." -
The way the Colts are playing, they need 14 or 15 on defense to stop the train running over them...
