Aaron Kampman struggling in 3-4 Defense
Sisyphean Bills replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You get better by improving your overall team. Since our DEs pretty much are below average to outright suck, it'd be a no-brainer to upgrade the position. Which is why it's probably impossible for Kampmann to be traded to the Bills. -

Hey all you Jason Peters haters
Sisyphean Bills replied to Cornerville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Interesting site, Thurman. I found the data on defense interesting. The Colts, the Tampa-2 blueprint that the Bills seem to (badly) be trying to follow, have the #1 and #2 4-3 DEs at 15.1 and 13.3. The Bills best DE is Denney and he's ranked #75 at -1.8. Our #1 pick is is ranked #97 at -6.2. (Kelsay and Schobel are #80 and #82.) Kawika Mitchell is ranked last among 4-3 OLBs at a -8.8. Buggs is one of the worst MLBs going. Mitchell is hardly any better. Stroud is ranked #93 at -2.1. According to this, the Bills front 7 is a pile of garbage. -

Brandon will never admit it of course, but Parker played him for a fool and ultimately got exactly what his client wanted. As to your last statement and using the data in a Thurman post above: trading the #2 tackle in the NFL and replacing him with the #95 tackle (dead last) is about as bad of a talent self-evaluation as you can possibly get by definition. -
Super Bowl!

And without a team around the QB (including coaching and front office), you end up with a Bert Jones or a Greg Cook. Many people thought bringing in Marv as GM was a laughably bad move. They were proven correct.

The trouble with Brandon's "damage control" efforts are stories like the Hall of Fame ceremony that he apparently "knew nothing at all about". Although others in the organization knew about it and called it off the Friday before, supposedly. Yet, there was no half-time and people from the Hall of Fame were in attendance supposedly. Both sides were at fault, I have no doubt. Peters wasn't overly professional from his side of it nor would I wager that Brandon was really Mr. Clean from his side. It was just a good old fashioned pissing match without cooler heads and ultimately, as always, the Bills fans got the big shaft. -
Do you blame Edwards for being shell-shocked?
Sisyphean Bills replied to LGB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Trouble is it won't help anything. Fitzpatpatsack was a terrible QB for Cincinnati last year. The worst yards/attempt in NFL history bad. He was brought in because he wasn't a threat to Trent Edwards. Even if Edwards laid a cannon ball sized egg. -
Just curious, but what were the positives you were thinking of initially? All I can think of are: 1) He was the anti-Donahoe and tried to change the "bunker mentality" into one of openness and involvement. 2) He was a good marketing move to bring back a familiar face from the successful past. 3) (cynically) He left the job quickly. As far as re-building the team, he was a disaster as a GM. This team is amongst the 5-6 bottom feeders at this point. It takes no special skills to build a doormat. PS: Did anybody catch the comment about being a "consultant"? Why would the Bills ask him to be a coaching consultant if the coaching was "just fine"?

Bills to dump No Huddle Per PFT

You got it all wrong. Kugler is a great line coach and Kollar was the one that sucked. -

In the Bills case, it might be an upgrade in uniforms. -

What's kind of eery is that the Redskins are starting both Dockery and Mike Williams on their lousy line. And they're in big trouble as well. -
Being optimistic, the Bills have been good in identifying DBs that can play in recent years. It's a shame that the front 7 is so poor and never seems to get much help.

Bills to dump No Huddle Per PFT

Have to agree. It's not like Trent Edwards was the mad bomber last year, throwing lasers over the top of the defense game after game. It was the exact opposite, and he was behind a completely different, veteran OL. Last year, the excuse was to blame the WRs for not getting open enough, even though they were often open downfield. The fact is that Trent has always been a quick, short passer. He was the anti-Losman in that regard, and won over a lot of people that were sick of Losman's spastic and erratic play. But, his long game has been virtually non-existant. That's not news and it remains a problem. -

Maybe they read my "stupid is as stupid does" post. And some posters think there is no difference between one coaching staff and the next. -
Consensus isn't necessarily bad. Consensus among people that don't know what they are doing isn't so great though. Consensus among a group of yes-men that don't know what they are doing is a train wreck.

1. You wrote John DiGiorgio, not Buggs. 2. If you want to call a backup that started a game or two filling in for the actual starter, a "starter", to bolster your agenda, go right ahead. 3. At least Buggs actually started a game in his role as a backup filling in for the true starter. We've had posters on this board try to claim anybody that plays a snap in a game is a "starter". -
I don't believe Ralph Wilson is calling the shots like, say, Al Davis or Jerry Jones. He may make final decisions, but all indications are that he has his advisers, the so-called "inner circle", and drives consensus. The trouble is that his football advisers, including Russ Brandon, are in way over their heads. This off-season (maybe sooner) will be the time for Ralph to reveal his cards as to whether he is serious about putting a good product out on the field and going out a winner or he's just mailing it in.

I think he's just saying Whitner hasn't made big plays, which has been true. Furthermore, he was moved to FS because a journeyman picked up off the street showed he wasn't a significant drop off.

One thing that makes our line bad is all the "brain fart" penalties this unit is taking. That stuff is what bottom-feeder teams do and is entirely avoidable. It goes against the coaching staff as well. Why insist on the no huddle when you can't get lined up right or get the snap count right? It makes no sense. It puts an OL that may play adequately (or horribly) between the whistles on a few plays behind in the down-and-distance constantly. Stupid stuff.
