It is quite a departure from their standard operating procedure. Mayhew was one of those in-house moves that came after the Millen and Marinelli spectacular flame-out. I remember several NFL types really scratching their heads as to his hiring, since the 0-fer season was about as loud and clear a message as one could possibly entertain that some objectivity and perspective on how the show was being managed were sorely needed. That 0-fer team wasn't just unlucky; it was a world-class dumpster fire. Some of the plays I recall seeing almost looks like a Hollywood movie, some slapstick comedy gone awry. Defenders literally running away from the ball-carrier, etc.
