  1. The Dick Levy shadow was 4 years, pentium math aside.
  2. Who needs to straighten their arms anyway?
  3. After re-reading it, I think you may be right. I'd think the best program is neither one that is dictated by an expert in his ivory tower nor one that is just up to the user to figure it out. A program where the best techniques are taught, best principles are used with attention to detail, and feedback from the athletes in terms of both their likes and dislikes as well as testing and monitoring. I guess it was the "likes and dislikes" part that threw me a bit. I may dislike swimming 50 laps in the pool every morning, but if I can see that it is helping me be stronger then my "dislike" is secondary and I may actually end up liking the activity.
  4. One thing doesn't add up in Tucker's piece. He claims that S&C coaches are all over the map with their programs and no consistency, etc. Then he claims that the best programs allow the athletes themselves to design their own programs since they know best. WTF? If the people that hold a full-time job researching, monitoring, and thinking about how to best train athletes don't know what they are doing, it is impossible to believe that each of the roughly 2000 NFL players out there "knows best" and is more qualified.
  5. Self perpetuating in a way. The Jauron apologists always like to trot out that he was a great coach because he was able to take the field with "gems" picked up off practice squads and street free agents and plug a lineup full of injuries -- those guys played hard for him. But the record number of injuries seems to have been fueled, at least partially, by an incredibly lame S&C program. That in turn meant that the systems installed necessarily had to be brain-dead simple since it was inevitable that unprepared players would be forced onto the field. The vicious treadmill of mediocrity is in full display.
  6. How about the bit that the new defensive coaches have installed more in 2 days than Jauron did in a season?
  7. I remember Dick Jauron trying, awkwardly, to explain why he allowed Terrell to miss one practice a week, the practice where they finished putting in the game plan for the next opponent. So, yes, I'd have to question Terrell's motivation and leadership and it isn't at all clear he wasn't part of the problem.
  8. He unmistakably was commenting on the "collective effort".
  9. Well, they didn't want anyone to get injured. So they got in hitting shape during the regular season.
  10. This thread should be merged with the Claussssen thread.
  11. Heard it was a difficult start. Seems Dick Jauron took his ball and went home.
  12. I don't see it. He's old, has a terrible rep, and had a poor season last year (arguably not his fault). If I'm a GM needing to make a trade mid-season (there is a trading deadline) because of injury then TO is probably not even on my list to consider, since I want a team guy that will hit the ground running and integrate quickly with the program. I'd hang up on you if you called, frankly.
  13. Who is going to give you a draft pick later for a has-been they could have for a song now?
  14. Because Nix wants to spend the money on his own guys.
  15. Gee, a universal slam against every Californian? And I thought it was more of a joke with a little barb against the laid-back surfer dude 'tude that several recent Bills QBs have had. And frankly, with Russ Brandon and Dick Jauron being the off-field leadership, who seriously thought that Trent Edwards could continue to sit on the end of the bench alone reading the latest People magazine updates on Dakota Fanning and this team would be successful? Do players rally around the blocking sled?
  16. When Hardy was drafted, there were a number of fans screaming about height and how a tall receiver would fix the offense. They looked at the heights and weights of draft prospects and started campaigning for Hardy. When the Bills drafted Hardy, other fans that wanted some other WR in their draft mag weren't as thrilled as the Hardy campaign camp. Add that Hardy had a handgun incident and came to the NFL not knowing what a route tree was, no ability to create separation, blew out his knee, and has done next to nothing for two years, and you have a guy that is a serious disappointment. Not unusual for a Buffalo Bills 2nd round pick, but nonetheless a box of tape could be argued to have made a bigger impact the past two seasons.
  17. Another alternative is that none of those things happen and the Bills end this upcoming season as they ended last season: in need of an NFL QB.
  18. If you're going to feign to be wise ass, know your stuff. Rich Gannon was NFL MVP in 2002 and played in Super Bowl 37. I was underselling all four names, two of which you didn't even put on your list. Your point is meaningless. What makes a successful QB isn't where he is drafted (or undrafted in some cases). More great players are drafted earlier in the draft, (wow! shocking!) but great players come in many different ways and being drafted early is well-documented as never being a guarantee to success. Ryan Leaf and JaMarcus Russell being prime examples.
  19. Rich Gannon and Tom Brady were pretty decent. Kurt Warner and Jake Delhomme had some ok seasons.
  20. What next? Little guide books with phrases in Canadian?
  21. Maybe they're thinking of using speed to get to the outside in the event that the average NFL defense has slow athletes.
  22. Some fans entire self image is conflated with a football organization over which they have no say or control. Admitting the reality that the team has been a showcase of failure is tantamount to self flagellation. And they are the first to hypocritically tell other people to "get a life".
