I wonder what Ralph thinks about signing up for an open-ended re-build plan. With a GM that's already retired once no less.
-
The difference seems to be one was the QB that did everything you asked him to do and failed and the other is a DE playing LB that did everything you asked him to do and continues to be horrific. So, cut the one and extend the other. WTF? How does that make any sense? Indeed, from your response, it sounds almost like a pity move. We let Edwards go because he was good enough to be a backup on another NFL team and we didn't want to waste more of his time here. We extended Kelsay because he sucks so badly, we know no one would pick him up. What is this, a kennel for stray football players? Edit: "There is a plan." What is it? Hitting yourself in the knee with the rubber hammer thingy?

I happen to think Kelsay sucks just as much (if not more) than Edwards ever did. Bear in mind that both Edwards and Kelsay were Captains. "The thing you don’t want to do is take your core guys and your leaders out of your system." "We knew he had the ability. He’s willing. He’s intelligent. He did all the things we asked. We went through OTAs. We went through preseason, camp, the whole deal, and he did everything we asked him to do and there was promise there." "Maybe not be great players but are good players that set the tone for what you want everybody else to be." "He exemplifies what we want players to do and how we want ‘em to be." One gets cut and the other gets a raise.

It's not a rebuilding year

It cuts both ways. They benched Edwards after two, count 'em, TWO games. That's coming to a very quick decision, by definition. So, why is it terrific to come to snap judgments during the season after the ship has sailed, but prudent not to make judgments during the off-season, when teams are actually put together? Edit: Some of your examples are irrelevant. It's a reasonable expectation that the same regime that drafts someone is going to take a season or three before dumping a high draft pick. Cutting a high pick that one just made reflects poorly on that person and they'd be out of an NFL job quickly and legitimately branded a yo-yo idiot. -
Could an O-line shift be in the works?

I was being completely serious. Well, other than the "Brandon Wahoo!" comment. Brandon was a terrible joke as GM. -

I prefer the term "throw away year". This is a season of pre-season. 20 games of evaluation. Easily explained of course since Dick took the VCR when he was fired. -

Peters was a rare talent and when he was properly motivated he demonstrated it, outside factors left aside. (We haven't had a guy on the OL that could fire off at the snap of the ball and cave-in the side of a defense since.) The loss of focus on his game, retirement of his mentor, contract disputes with Hard-Ball Brandon (wahoo!), hold-outs, injuries, trades have certainly reversed the fortunes of what was a meteoric rise to the pinnacle of his profession. -

Victor Allotey missed the window. He might've looked like an All-Pro on this line. -
If the "disgrunteled" Randy Moss is worth a 3rd

That's quite true. Ignoring the Homer praises, he has shown he's really a one-dimensional receiver that can be erased from games. A trade partner would have to want an Alvin Harper/Peerless Pricetag type of deep threat to an already good offense. Strangely enough, the best partner may actually be the Patriots now. -

Just select starters and positions completely at random. If someone !@#$s up an assignment cut him loose. -

That works too. When you want a bunch of shovel holders on your crew, you got to go for the right look... -

But, I think if someone was offering a 4th, he'd already be gone. -

It's hard to evaluate in the NFL. Let's not forget, Kelsay looks good standing near a pile. -

More importanly, that means we could get a 6th or 7th rounder for Evans. -

You seem to have answered your own question. So, he'd get cut. -

Good point. Not to mention that Moulds came to a good team, so there wasn't any reason to rush him into the lineup. Unlike today, where the Bills are a bottom-feeder and if a 1st round pick can't even get on the field ahead of talentless stiffs, well, that's not a real good thing. Still, the original question only qualified injury. So Moulds is the perfect counter-example to the OP's question. It just wasn't as great a question as he thought. **** happens. -
Sorry but that sort of rings like the posters that guaranteed Gailey would make this team better than 6-10 this year. I meant "shakeup" in the sense of a reorganization and overhaul of the scouting department. Yes, it's nice to add a couple new faces, but the people that were already entrenched in their teflon foxholes are still there. Now maybe Moody and Whaley are going to come in with guns blazing and fix the process and faulty evaluations that have been coming in. Maybe not. I hope you are right, because the alternative means that the eventual re-build will be more years away.

With Modrak, how does anyone know he is being managed the same way he was in Pittsburgh? Or that he hasn't always just had a shotgun blast approach and left it up to someone above him to comb though the details? If you really look at the years he has been here and the draft results, it is obvious that there is something very amiss. It isn't working and the Bills have drafted extremely poorly. A shake-up is long overdue. If for no other reason than to get some fresh perspectives and new energy in the building (not that Modrak is actual ever present). It would've been nice if Buddy had cleaned house during the off-season, but they are probably taking their time to evaluate everyone between naps.

Rebuilding... and still hating...

Everybody and their monkey's organ knew the Bills needed to do major work on their OL EIGHTEEN months ago (when they traded Peters without a replacement). Edwards lost his job to a journeyman, who was brought in as a non-threat, almost a year ago. How do these things seem like new revelations??
