LB Thaddeus Gibson waived again
Sisyphean Bills replied to Kingfish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was agreeing with you and talking about the OP. The OP, by virtue of the , is apparently trying to make fun of a thread from last November in which some people wanted to see the Bills be more active in trying to put 3-4 defenders on the field, and one of those players was Gibson. The context was that this was in November when it was obvious to everyone that the switch to the 3-4 defense was not going well and fell far short of the miracle cure for the Tampa-2 defense that some had predicted in August of last year. The point about Maybin is that it totally undermines the poster's point. Instead of picking up a failed Gibson (who looked the part of a 3-4 defender on paper), the Bills stuck with the Aaron Maybin project. Maybin himself was just cut, so the fact is both were failures and gambling on one or the other wouldn't have mattered much in the long run. Capice? -

It would be troubling, if it actually happened. On the other hand, given the partial, out of context quotes from one side only in the article, it's quite possible that isn't what happened at all. -

This is yet another example of why context is vitally important. Should Bills fans witnessing the futile efforts of one of the worst defenses in the NFL discuss possible moves that might have helped it get better? Apparently not. It's much better that they stuck to the plan of developing Maybin. -
" 'They' put me in the right situation"

They probably knew from their time traveling scout that Palmer was on his way to retirement. To add to the conspiracy theories: everyone knows that Goodell really works for Kraft and it was Kraft that ordered him to force Vick to play in the NFC given his total recall of future events. -

Not sure what you are getting at. Given a single data point, are you suggesting no other team could've offered him more money or a starting position or ??? Look, all I'm saying is just because some blogger implies Goodell forced Vick to sign with Philadelphia doesn't mean that it really happened. Capiche? -

From the story, Vick didn't say exactly that he was denied from signing with another team. He said "they put me in the right situation." The author of the story speculates that means Goodell told him he had to sign with Philadelphia. (I'm sure this was an accident and he didn't realize it might up his hit count to insinuate unethical or even sinister goings on where taking place. ) It's not unlikely that whoever it was that helped Vick may have helped make a list of pros and cons to each situation and helped him make an informed decision that was based on more than, "Gee, who's offering the most money." You know, kind of how an adult might make a major life-changing decision. -

All kidding aside, was it? Vick wasn't ready to walk out of the prison yard and assume the mantle of savior of the Buffalo Bills. Consider that the Bills were being run by the "inner circle" and coached by Dick Jauron, who routinely appointed whatever wing nut happened to be his QB coach to be his offensive coordinator. Vick wasn't ready from day one and the coaching he would have received in Buffalo would've been a joke. If you are Tony Dungy (or some other adviser appointed by the NFL), would you advise Vick to go to a situation with a stable coaching staff with a track record of developing QBs and where he could sit and get back into the flow of being an NFL player, or would you advise him to take a couple more bucks and get thrown to the wolves? Maybe you'd just tell him, "I'm there for you," and then ignore your cell phone when he called. -

Late breaking news: Roger Goodell is to suspend himself for 5 milliseconds for tampering. -
At this point, they have to hit on the majority of their picks to raise this Titanic. One here and a couple there may never really turn it around as the guys that can play will grow weary of treading water and leave as free agents, by holding out, or otherwise asking for trades. If the number of holes created continues to keep pace or exceed the number of NFL caliber players brought in and developed, there is no traction and the Bills continue to spin their wheels.

Not to mentioned the hundreds of fans who think they could draft better than the professionals that work for the Bills. -
Is this newspeak?

Whew. I thought you were going to say they either demoted him or traded him for a jug of prune juice.

Well, they could bring back Maybin as a backup TE now that he's cleared waivers! -

Maybe someone offered the Bills a 5th rounder for him. -
I'm not sure the Bills have anyone that is a straight line burner like Evans. Parrish used to run in the 4.3 range. Jones and Easley are in the 4.4s. Johnson (4.5s) got deep on some teams last year, but he's no burner. I do think Roscoe is a quicker small space athlete than Evans. The question has always been if he could physically hold up and had enough power to hold his own. PS: I expect Evans to flourish in the Ravens offense. I'm hoping it is a great trade for him personally.
-
Sorry if that wasn't clear. Of course, every offense runs deep routes. That's, of course, not what I meant. Gailey wants his receivers to be big bodies and big versatile route runners. He wants to be able to run a number of plays out of the same formations. Evans didn't give him that. PS: Evans wasn't double covered every single play either.
-
This is a good point. If they can dump Evans for his age, not fitting the offense and to try some youth, then why not dump Kelsay for the same reasons? Speculation: maybe they aren't as happy with the depth at DE/OLB as some posters here? Maybe he's viewed as insurance against Merriman suffering another leg injury? Still it would be great to see Carrington really blossom into a solid player. The Bills drafts have been such a horror show, it would be a downright incredible turn of events.

Aaron Maybin = Amobi Okoye?
Sisyphean Bills replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Simple. He ballooned up for the combine. Why do you think he wanted to keep the weight on, anyway? He's a young kid with a slender frame who's only success as a football player was in a handful of college games when he ran a loop around slower offensive lineman. -
The problem is that running 9 routes isn't part of this offense, nor can it be. From Chan Gailey's own lips: the Bills don't have enough talent up front and he knows he has problems there. Despite what some might post here, Fitzgibbons is not John Elway Jr. either. Evans was a poor fit in this offense and the rest of his game was of a quality that Gailey decided it was time to roll the dice and see if some of the kids could do better.

Okoye at his worst was better than Maybin.
