  1. 'bout time they punted that guy.
  2. Don't Tate on the Po' Refs!
  3. Yes! The Bills need to pass more. (runs away)
  4. Wait a minute. Ireland is thin-skinned?!? What is more interesting? That our GM spread disinformation, that someone may have believed his disinformation, or that he is slapped on the back for doing what all NFL GMs do?
  5. I have. But then, I've seen them try to get it straightened out with the ref taking charge of the situation.
  6. The only thing simultaneous was that both refs signaled contradictory signals at the same time while looking at the ground and without communicating. If there was ever a moment that screamed, we are not pros at this job...
  7. The biggest criticism of McKelvin is he has less than zero ball instincts. So the solution is to try him at WR? OK.
  8. Of course, the exact circumstances and details were different. The 3 franchises ended 09 with 4,5,6 wins, so they were in rough-speaking terms equally bad before their current regimes were hired. But clearly the situations were different. One small example is that Mike Shanahan actually went to Washington to meet with the Redskins brass. FWIW, the Rams don't fit what I intended as they gutted their front office and coaching staff this past off-season. Anyway, let's take it to PM if you want.
  9. Just meant that these 3 franchises all started a new regime contemporaneously. It will be interesting to see where each of them is at the end of the season, after the 3 years. As far as the "win now" bits of this thread, I'd add that many coaches around the NFL believe that if "win now" isn't their mindset going in, then they are just coaching players for the next regime. NFL owners, as a collective, have shown that tolerance of futility is in short supply.
  10. We're on the same page wrt the bolded, Hope. I do think most regimes will try to make a move at QB fairly quickly, because there is often the pressure to win now. If the last crew couldn't get it done in a QB driven league with a certain guy, turning the page could be seen as a move of self-preservation. The honeymoon period is finite, and real progress has to be shown before the window closes or one adds their name to the long list of failed NFL coaches. The Seahawks and Redskins underwent the same transformation as the Bills at the same time. Each has had several transitions at the QB position, starting veterans acquired by trade, hold-overs, retreads, and draft picks. By contrast, the Bills have stuck with one guy (I'm ignoring the Trentative aborted project) over that same period with inconsistent results and regression in overall record.
  11. It's true that the list of guys that do not become the franchise QB that those drafting the kid hope for is lengthy. However, the only way to guarantee you don't get a franchise QB is to not make an attempt. I'm not sure how many people would say that the (one of the) main problem(s) with Carolina or St. Louis is the play of Newton or Bradford. [i haven't seen them play recently myself, so don't have an observation.]
  12. Don't forget all the Uncle Ricos out there.
  13. Let's put it this way. How many people think Wade Phillips (or Dick LeBeau or Dom Capers as you prefer) makes no adjustments during a game when things are not working?
  14. Maybe. Or maybe the point is that the group that hired all of the people over that period of time is exactly the same. Which goes directly to why it is important for this team, Nix and Gailey, to distinguish themselves by results as actually different from their predecessors rather than talk about how they are different.
  15. It's a results oriented business. If the team goes in the tank and shows it hasn't a clue what it is doing, say an overall record of 15-33 or so, then what is the point of giving it a few more years exactly? By the way, from the actions they have taken, it seems rather likely that this group is under some real pressure to show progress and not just talk about it.
  16. Lack of continuity hurts, but it is a circular argument. Let's say the job is digging a ditch. We go out and hire a guy with no arms to dig us the ditch. We buy him a shiny, new shovel and wait patiently. He does his best, but it's really difficult for the armless employee to dig the ditch. Should we just wait longer or do we facepalm ourselves and hire someone else? And if we choose the latter and have learned nada, we could hire a 4 year old girl or a panda bear to dig the ditch. And on it goes...

  20. Latest: Vince is suing his agent and investment adviser for $5M. Apparently, his $26M in guaranteed money has gone up in smoke.
  21. OTOH, it is nice to see someone that isn't rolled up like a carpet at LT.
  22. They were in the playoffs two years ago at 10-6. Albeit when Haley was the head coach.
  23. Even the Raiders get calls.
  24. I thought it was funny.
