Scouting Report Daiyan Henley ILB rounds 2-3
947 replied to PrimeTime101's topic in The Stadium Wall
Henley looks like an exact clone of Terrel Bernard. Watch their highlights, it's like you're watching the same player. Same size too. This doesn't look like a round 2-3 player to me. Late round pick, sure. -
Great breakdown of McGovern and Harty (The Athletic; paywalled)
947 replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
There's a lot of breakdown & individual play analysis, but here's their conclusions: So, what are the Bills getting in McGovern? It really depends on what they ask him to do, but he seems to be a nice fit into the Bills’ blocking scheme that requires more movement ability out of their front five. McGovern could struggle a bit if they swing to a more power-based run game with Damien Harris. But as a pass blocker, which is what the Bills ask their offensive linemen to do more often than not, they are getting a good player. McGovern looks like an average to slightly above-average starting guard in the Bills’ scheme and a significant upgrade over Rodger Saffold at left guard if McGovern’s 2022 tape holds up. So, what are the Bills getting in Harty? Beane said they looked at Harty to fill their WR4 role and everything Harty showed on film in 2021 indicates a chess-piece player from multiple spots of the offense with the potential to make game-changing plays at any moment. His overall speed on one side can attract attention away from Stefon Diggs, and if it doesn’t, they have a potential one-on-one matchup with what is likely the fastest player on the field. The Bills also have had a lot of trouble with quick screens over the years, but Harty allows them to do slower-developing screens to him, allowing the blockers to get out ahead of him and the speed to erase that gap in time lost. Additionally, Harty has the potential to be a menace during Josh Allen’s many improvisational plays, with defenders losing track of him deep enough to take the top off the defense. He should play at least 25 to 40 percent of snaps each week and is a clear upgrade over Isaiah McKenzie.- 18 replies

Draft Prospects with Private Meetings with the Bills
947 replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall
I heard Jim's Steakout -
Having 3 starting caliber Guards protects against any issue with Morse. If he gets a concussion, Bates is the new Center & we still have 2 capable OGs who are both big upgrades from Saffold in pass-protection..

Well Beane did have a gaping hole at CB going into last year's draft. And I think we all expect he'll have one at MLB this year. But at least it's only 1 major hole, and I think Q is a solid backup. I hope it doesn't prevent us from drafting more than 1 OL.
-
It's extremely rare that a rookie TE makes a significant contribution in year 1, it's one of the hardest learning curves among all positions. I don't expect Beane to draft a TE in rounds 1-2. It'll probably be OL in the 1st, but I'm not sure if O'Cyrus Torrence is a fit, he's more of a road-grading run blocker. I could see McBeane taking an OL with flexibility to play OG or OT. If we don't sign Bobby Wagner, I think they'll probably trade down from #27 & take Jack Campbell somewhere in the 30s.

Building an Entire Draft Board:Offensive Guard Rankings
947 replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
I like Vorhees, would be a steal in the 5th. If not injured, he'd likely be picked around our 2nd rounder. -
A 260lb LB? I see that his shuttle is in the 9th percentile. That shows his change of direction is very slow despite being really "straight line" fast, that's definitely due to his size. LBs need to be fast changing directions, in coverage and everything else they do. I agree with the others that he's probably an Edge prospect, not a LB.

I'd be OK with Fournette, but not with paying for what he's done in the past. He's not that player anymore, he's currently a $2-3M/year RB in this market.
-
I like it, but they'd have to trade down out of the 1st round to do it. Campbell isn't making it to pick #59. We'd need to get in the first 10 picks of the 2nd.

I thought Bernard had promise, but then I saw the 1 game he started. He was so bad that didn't look like he belonged on an NFL field, I don't think he played another snap all year after that. Aside from the fumble return TD in preseason, I didn't see any of the speed that was talked about. He looked no faster than AJ Klein in coverage, and he appeared to be about the same size as James Cook. He needs another 10-20lbs, hopefully that's what he's working on. I'm still hopeful for him in the future, but there's no way McBeane trust him to be a regular this year.

All-in is what the 2021 Rams did. It worked, but they'll be paying the price for most of a decade. We just need to add a couple pieces to reload, and we'll still be in the title contender mix beyond this year.

The Bears have already acquired the land at a suburban site in Arlington Heights, the Soldier Field re-renovation is not happening. So I assume the ridiculous amount of money paid to have those renderings made is now just part of the $631M debt.

0 penalties in 15 games last year, and only 2 career penalties. That's huge. I like it.

IOL Prospect, Andrew Vorhees USC - Possible ACL tear at Combine
947 replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
If he drops to round 4-5, I'd support drafting him. Even being on IR for a year, he'd provide much more value than what we'd likely draft otherwise.- 24 replies

Is there any defensive player you'd be happy with at pick 27?
947 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
If we draft Defense at #27, that player absolutely must be an immediate contributor. We can't afford another guy who needs to be brought along slowly & barely play half the games. I think Campbell could be that type of player, and possibly the only one I'd be OK with. If we draft another rotational DL who makes little impact as a rookie, we deserve to suffer for it. -
nfl.com draft analyisis lists Zay Flowers' NFL comparison as Travis Benjamin. Yikes...
-
I really like Dalton Risner, he's projected at $7M/yr. I loved him in his draft year, he has the versatility to be OG & RT, and is nasty. Adding a FA like him would free us up to not be forced to take OL in the 1st if one falls, then take best available among WR/OL/LB/Safety.

Maybin had a 1.57 10-yard split. Like Nolan Smith, Maybin was also said to be "thin-waisted" & bulked up from 235ish lbs to 250lbs for the Combine. I have no doubt Smith will be a better pro than Maybin, but when I see the term "thin waisted" used on any DL, my first thought it to stay the heck away.

Potential Number 1 pick Jalen Carter Arrest Warrant
947 replied to CountDorkula's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Jeep Trackhawk Carter was driving has over 700 Horsepower & costs $91K. I'll assume this was part of his NIL deal with Georgia, and all the big NIL deals include fancy cars, but why give a top prospect a 700HP vehicle? There are tons of 300HP fancy car options less likely to result in needing to show off that speed.
