He is huddled with his agent right now deciding where to go. He got lucky and the gamble paid off.... when the Bills wanted to talk contract he politely declined with the old "need to concentrate on the season" excuse, then came through it with the 1k and injury free to boot. As soon as he had his 1000 Gailey did him a favor and benched him, the last half of the last game, risk free, now.... he will reap the benefit. Stevie never ever intended to sign again with the Bills, for any (reasonable) price and, as noted, took a gamble which paid off. Greener pastures. Thanks for the memories.

If The Front Office Does Not Sign Stevie
zazie replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
we had the bird in hand wih sj all we had to do was sign him last offseason. Chan may want Bowe, but so might several other teams. And when the Bills bid against the league, the Bills generally lose. I guess the FO had too many other pressing duties, to get around to resigning one of our core players when it was reasonable to do so. -
I touched on this in another thread and was wondering what people think. Kyle, Fitz, KELSAY: Given very generous contracts well before they could see any sort of free agency, years before even. SJ, FJ, Bell, Greer etc. - solid performers just left hanging and who we will likely lose (or will be very unhappy like FJ despite great performance). Am I imagining things? Is it crystal clear, black and white?

Good summary of why SJ will get a huge contract out of someone even though he maybe shouldn't: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1000116-2012-nfl-free-agency-6-ovepriced-vets-who-will-demand-more-than-they-deserve#/articles/1000116-2012-nfl-free-agency-6-ovepriced-vets-who-will-demand-more-than-they-deserve/page/7

Point well taken. I concede.

We can but hope. Doubt it though. -
Congrats to Wilson: http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/bills-nfl/article688859.ece What a year, this award, plus being the most consistant player and best defensive player on the team, plus making videos with hot female r&b stars (and likely getting a little).... Great to have him on the team

Kelsay, Kyle, Fitz... healthy new contracts, well in time. FJ, SJ, Bell - still waiting. Not to mention Greer etc. Coincidences abound. Kelsay is the real telling one, what a joke to let SJ go, let FJ dangle, and give many extra millions to Kelsay years before his contract was up, like he would have been in great demand or something...

Carrying your own health insurance = paying for their own treatment. I was in LA in the early 1990s when the helmet law was a great debate as motorcyclists felt it was terrible and unfair. If there was a wat to know for sure that they all had insurance, I would have been against thehelmet law. Unfortunaltey the taxpayers had to foot the bill for a number of coma patients who did not. So the helmet law was in fact needed and for the public good. Same idea.

If Rogers and Williams both turn out to be players, I think we can safely say that the last draft was far and away the best draft we have had in over a decade. Nit saying that much given our previous drafts quality of late, but still it gives some glimmer of hope to the future. Too bad we are going to lose another very strong 7th round draftee for no reason, SJ, so next draft we are back to recycling departed starters. But still, excellent draft, this latest one.

Right, that is what should have happened....last off season. Why the heck would SJ NOT test the free agent market at this point? Franchised or off the Bills, those are the current realitistic outcomes for SJ at this point.
-
He actually did do that last off season, one of th best guys in the country, hopefully he will again this offseason.
-
SJ will be on another team on day 1 of free agency. Possibly day 2 if the agent needs some time to fine tune the deal. He will be a midnight call for some GM with reciever needs. I have a feeling.....

Is Kelsay actually good or is Tebow just that bad?
zazie replied to mountainwampus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tebow sucks. Kelsay sucks. Please join me, lets all hold hands and pray to santa claus that they are both out of the league soon. Kelsay can get to his farm career in Nebraska, and Tebow can get to his Florida career, praying to santa. -
Umm, torn ACL...... Not sure he willhave a choice but to take an incentive contact. That is a major injury from which many athletes never return and few are the same player if they do. The3 broken fibula was actually a much better injury for him to have.
-
An oft injured but very servicable LT, or an oft injured but very fine center coming off the ACL tear. I think Bell gets more due to the LT being a more valued position. Not sure though, Wood IS the white guy (LOL, kind of) and he was excellent when healthy.....

Ko and Lil Donte were our backfield for the next decade! Best laid plans. I hope Ko kept his million bucks, he will need it for the rest of his life.

If The Front Office Does Not Sign Stevie
zazie replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have always felt a team in Buffalo WITH ralph was better than a team elsewhere with a new owner. This last debacle of a season actually had me questioning that. Ralph is just such a despicably bad owner, and has been for such a long time. The misery! -
Wood needs an incentive contract with a low signing bonus and low guaranteed money, he is a bit too brittle to be getting big guaranteed money. Let McKelvin walk maybe, he just is not a very good CB. Bell same as Wood, incentive laden, low upfront.

For the time being the Bills alone can negotiate and sign Byrd. To not sign a reasonable contract and risk injury next season for the chance of better prospects down the road is by no means a safe choice or a foregone conclusion for him. Bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush. If the Bills act during this offseason, he would be insane to not take a reasonable offer, and risk getting nothing in the event of a serious injury, which is a very real possibility in football. But every gme tht goes by next season with Byrd unsigned it becomes more likely he will seek greener pastures, that is true.
-
A frequent Bills FO excuse and one that has led to the early departure of several players we should have kept over the years, and will led to the soon to be loss of SJ and Bell. Their job is to negotiate contracts for 54 guys, with maybe 7-10 actively in negotiation (or should be in negotiation) at any one time. What are these mythical 'other priorities' which keep them from doing this work???

So long as you carry your own health insurance, you are 100% correct, your business and your business alone what you put into your body. And you ar first class for me, all the way!

If The Front Office Does Not Sign Stevie
zazie replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That would be a good analogy except... SJ>>>>Lil Donte in terms of football smarts, talent and playmaking ability. Someone will pay him, and he may well have multiple suitors. Lil Donte was f**ked from the start by the sheer fact that he had very few interceptions over several years. SJ on the other hand, is coming off back to back 1000 yard seasons. -

At this point it is far too late. SJ would be an idiot to not test the FA market, he has one game remaining on his contract. Last year at this time, would hve been the right time to resign SJ. He is as good as gone, as some team will make him a reasonably large offer, that even if matched by the bills, will be accepted by SJ. Why not, he is a flamboyant type, I am sure a larger market will have allure for him. Say bye bye to SJ. What we should be looking at NOW, is WHO HAS ONE YEAR LEFT on their deals, that we may wish to retain longer, and get those deals done now. Bell is also gone, IMO. FJ would love to be gone, but has a year left, maybe we should give the man a little good faith money.
