  1. What these millenials need is to get smacked in the head with a 9 iron a few times. That will get them up and moving around the room...locate their socks maybe (I stole that from George Carlin). Haha.
  2. 1st in flight, 49th in education! J/K...I loved living in Charlotte. Kids on their iPads at dinner drives me crazy. This could go in the pet peeves thread. Lazy parenting, IMO. Interact with your kids once in a while...the little pricks will thank you for it in the future. If they can't make it through a meal at a restaurant without disrupting others, then they're not ready to go to a restaurant yet.
  3. Had some delicious beef tongue "lengua" tacos at this amazing Mexican restaurant in Burlington. Tender and delicious meat.
  4. What if you have a pre-existing condition?
  5. There is a local hiking/biking trail that is owned and maintained by the city. I take my kids there all the time, and these mountain bike dorks with the spandex pants and the extra fat tires are constantly coming close to running over my kids. They seem to get pissed off when hikers are on the trail, and they have to slow down and maneuver around them. I'd love for one of those algae eating bike hippies to stop and give me crap just once. I'd punch them right in the snot locker like I used to do back in high school. They always curse and "gesture" as they're speeding away.
  6. Ah missed that... I coach lacrosse, and one of my players tore his meniscus wrestling. He tore it near the end of the season, had arthroscopic surgery, and just got cleared today by his doctor for full contact. I think his recovery from the surgery was about 5 weeks.
  7. Weird. I wonder what went wrong? Torn meniscus is a relatively common procedure, right?
  8. Thanks for mutton!
  9. You are quickly becoming one of my favorite new board members.
  10. My pants just got a little snug in the front.
  11. No! Respectfully disagree. This will make you look like a kitty. Talk to him like a man, and then have your wife follow up with the same message.
  12. Be firm and honest with him, but be respectful. My MIL was very similar...always meddling and trying to assert control over things that were not really her business. I asked her if we could have a private conversation, put it all on the table in a kind and respectful way...but still drew a very clear line in the sand. Things have been much better since. Also, it is important that you and your wife present as a united front. If your wife does not support your "message," nor will your FIL.
  13. ...and what would lead you to believe that McD has "final say" on personnel decisions? I'm sure he has plenty of influence, given that he wants players that fit his schemes, but I believe it to be more of a collaborative effort with the guy signing the paychecks having final say.
  14. IIRC, the Brand Names in Auburn burned to the ground
  15. Only if a few players fall off the moving van on the way to Toronto.
  16. There was an Ames in Auburn, NY that closed down in the mid 80's. After that, it was a Nichols which was very similar. Both very similar to Kmart. We also had a store in auburn called Brand Names. There was some merchandise on the floor, but mostly you would stand at the counter and look through their catalog. Once you picked what you wanted, the worker would go in the back and get it for you. I remember my sister and I circling things we wanted for xmas in the Brand Names catalog.
  17. I think the NFL wants a team in London, and I suspect it's going to be Jacksonville. I also think they want a team in Mexico City, but I think that is further down the road.
  18. Not surpising. I spent three summers in Martha's Vineyard during graduate school working as a bartender at a fancy tennis club. Kilmer came there a couple times as a guest of Meg Ryan (at least I saw them playing tennis together). Val was notorious around the island for taking home young servers and bartenders more than half his age. This was back in 2001-2004 time range. A girl I worked with got "approached" by him one night and said he was super creepy.
  19. Orange is the New Black. I enjoyed season 1 somewhat, but after that it was repugnant and disgusting. I couldn't watch any longer.
  20. I'm sure Shameless has been mentioned on here, but that show is simply terrific. My wife and I have been watching 2-3 episodes per night, and are now into season 4. Just keeps getting better.
  21. Not a big fan of lamb, but I do like those little fainting goats. Boyst...can you get a few of those fainting goats for the next time I visit?
  22. Mrs. Hammersticks and I very rarely go out to eat. By the time we pay a babysitter $10 an hour, and pay for a half-way decent meal at a restaurant, we're in for at least a $200 evening. I can get a couple high quality steaks, some seafood, and a couple nice bottles of wine or champagne for $50-60. Lately I have abandoned the grill in favor of my new cast iron skillet. I did ribeyes this way on Friday. Heated up the pan until it's like the surface of the sun, throw in some butter and fresh rosemary, and then the steaks which are generously seasoned with kosher salt and fresh ground pepper. I baste the steaks with the rosemary butter as I cook them. When finished they have a great, flavorful crust. I love my new cast iron pan.
  23. Close this lover trucker down!!! Mods, merge please JK
