  1. It's just like any other small town nowadays. If you're not into the drug scene you can avoid it, although you will likely see some "itchy scratchys" floating around town. I have a co-worker who lives 5-6 blocks from downtown, and he has a home in a pretty nice neighborhood. He has a wife and three small children, and he has nothing but good things to say about where he lives and the community in general. FWIW.
  2. I live just outside of Middlebury, but my school district central office is in Rutland so I am there frequently. Rutland has a bad reputation for crime/drugs, but it's not a bad little town, IMO. I think it gets overblown because Vermonters in general are biased against anything resembling "city life." There are very nice parts of Rutland to live, and there are parts to stay away from. It actually reminds me a great deal of my home town (Auburn, NY). PM me if you are serious about this and have any questions.
  3. Just finished S1 of Safe on Netflix. Drama/murder mystery type with the dude from Dexter. Pretty solid show. Would have made a pretty good book I think.
  4. Is the shower boy thread archived somewhere? I eventually had to confront him and cut him off, as he was verbally abusive toward my wife. He would wait in my front lawn for someone to wake up, and then he would knock on the door. I had two young children in the house, and he was clearly “unstable.” I spoke with his brother, who was supposedly clean (although he was present at all their parties), on multiple occasions. I learned about his death about 6 months after he moved away and the house was sold to our current neighbors.
  5. No, this happened about a year after he moved away. Very sad. I don’t know where he was at the time.
  6. Heroin is a bad mofo. I’ve been to 3 funerals for students who I have worked with in a therapeutic capacity (overdose deaths). I’ve also lost two close friends, who are close to my age, to heroin overdoses (back in my hometown Auburn, NY). One I played lacrosse with since I was four years old....had two daughters. I just don’t understand all of this.
  7. Actually, yes. Showerboy did eventually overdose and die is my understanding. RIP....poor young man.
  8. Of course it’s not on your street. Heroin junkies are like bloodhounds for that ****! They find it and use it before you wake up in the morning ? What do you mean by the northeast kingdom? What town? North of Burlington near Saint Albans?
  9. I don’t think the zoom on his iPhone is that sophisticated.
  10. Yessir!! I guess it’s a matter of perspective. I would hate it here if I were still in my “more formative” years, and did not have a family. I’m 39...on the cusp of being old, so I’m pretty simple nowadays. I’d much rather sit by a campfire with some good friends, music, and drinks than I would like to go out to a bar or a nightclub. There’s tons of stuff for kids to do in my community also which is nice. Vermont is a great place to raise a family if you live in the right area, and is an amazing place for people like me who enjoy the outdoors. One of my favorite things about Vermont is that there is a brewery almost literally around every corner. Another thing I really like are all the ski resorts, and I don’t even ski. During the off-season, the resorts always have something going on. Brew-fests, live music, hiking, mountain biking, and all kinds of other fun stuff. Burlington is a really neat little city. Again, if I were in my 20’s I would probably hate it here. It reminds me a great deal of where I grew up in the Finger Lakes region...only with mountains. One thing I really hate about Vermont is trying to get around the state. Route 7 is really the only effective way to get up and down the state, and it’s a single lane road. They need to build a 2 lane highway from Albany to Burlington.
  11. Only if you ask nicely. There’s a heroin epidemic everywhere, dude. What do you mean about talking like you got marbles in your mouth? I’ve lived all over the US, and Vermonters have a slight dialect, but nothing too noticeable.
  12. I need an interpreter to understand this. Anyone?
  13. Dude, don't you live in Indiana or some crappy suburb south of Chicago? I think I'd rather live in Aleppo, Syria than where you live.
  14. The downstairs bathroom is recently remodeled too! Come to VT for the $10,000, and stay for the excellent water pressure and blue glass mosaic tile shower walls!!
  15. He’s received an endorsement deal from Gary’s rooster Ring Emporium in Lackawanna.
  16. Almond butter is the balls. Waaayyyyy better than PB any day. Smooth almond butter.
  17. Does it really matter all that much who the DB’s coach is? I mean, I’m sure McD has a major influence over that position group. WRT Waufle, I called for his firing mid-season last year. He was tuuuurble.
  18. Does Dustin Hopkins belong on this list?
  19. Tough to gauge from that pic, but I’ll go out on a limb here and say yes.
  20. Good original post. What are your thoughts before we either agree with you or chide you relentlessly?
  21. ? The one in White quite possible is his father, and the one in red looks like Ba Ba Booey DeBarge.
