To the point on potentially drafting Warmack, very intersting article that just came out on why LT is being de-emphasized. Says that with quicker passing attacks, more uses of TEs and RBs in passing, teams are taking more straight line approaches to pass rushing. This is very interesting. Definitely could happen. And I think we could still get the second QB off the board while picking up another 2nd rounder and maybe a late rounder. I like it. Swap with Dallas, take Barkely in the middle of the first round and use the 2nd round to find a LB and maybe WR. However, the best laid plans...

Ha. I'm not going to even comment on that job remark because it has nothing to do with this discussion. If you read my post, what I'm saying is that I think it's worth the risk. Much different than a gamble. It's impossible to win in this league without a very good QB. I think Barkley has tools too become a very good QB in this league. I'm not saying I guarantee it, just that given those facts I think it's a risk worth taking. Comprende??

The beauty of this process is that no one really knows. Not the experts, not the coaches, not the scouts, not TBD posters, no one. At this point, I think Barkley is worth the risk. Arm strength can improve, we've seen it happen many times. Brady was a noodle arm coming out of college and now is throwing seeds. Drew Brees was never really a strong armed QB and he turned out ok. The thing I like about Barkley that I think will help him succeed is that he's been a 4 year starter in a top tier Pro style attack. He's accurate. He's tasted success and battled failure. If we take a chance on him at 8 and it doesn't work out, well, we're not that much worse off. We have the top pick in next years draft and we take Johnny Manziel or the next stud QB.

I couldn't read through 18 pages to see if this article had been posted, but good writeup on Matt Barkley. I am really coming around on him and hope that he's there for the Bills in Rd. 1. The basic premise of the article is that he's fallen a bit because he doesn't have anything measureable that's off the charts, but everything is above average. Second, the intangibles of being a leader, reading defenses, making quick decisions, is there and what makes QBs successful. He's demonstrated tremendous success on deep balls, third downs, and in the red zone. At this point, i think he's well worth the risk and honestly the risk is much less now that it was during the old rookie salary scale. In a way, I almost hope it's a Bills player. Finally get some positive publicity for the team.

+1 If there was a 'can't miss' QB in this draft, he gets snapped up by the Chiefs or any of the other 5 teams in front of us that need a QB. I think we need to take the BPA at a position of need, which is pretty much everything except RB, and the target a QB in Round 2. Who knows, maybe Glennon, Barkley or Nassib fall to us in round 2. In the meantime, we try to target a FA QB, recognizing that he's not going to be the next coming of Aaron Rogers or Tom Brady. At best we have to hope for a couple Neil O'Donnell or Vinny Testaverte years while we develop someone else.

It's an interesting thought, but I don't think running QBs or the QB Read Option is going to stick around too long. CK looked fantastic last night, but part of that is I don't think defenses are accustomed to playing against it yet. If you look at the real successful QBs in the NFL right now, it's all classic pocket passers. Brady, Manning, Brees, Ryan, and Rogers just to name a few. I also think what teams are trying to do with RGIII, CK, and Wilson is slim down the playbook to get these guys on the field. As they get a little more mature and more comfortable with the complex NFL offenses, you'll see less running/read option and more traditional offenses. Teams have to protect their biggest investments, which is the QB.

Haha! That is a good joke! I agree with the other recent posts, this is an academic conversation because it's never going to happen. The Cowboys are stuck with Romo. No team would ever trade Dallas a first for him and they can't get anything less than a second, which they are unlikely to get either. Who really knows what the current crop of college QBs will turn out like. Romo was an undrafted FA. Look at what Russell Wilson has done in Seattle. We all know about Brady. Shaub is decent and he was a third rounder also I think.

I guess I just respectfully disagree. I think we have to set a goal as winning the Super Bowl and putting pieces in place that can accomplish that. The question with Romo really in this thread is what is reasonable comp for getting him. IMHO, it's no more than a 3rd round draft pick (which likely wouldn't get it done, you're right). The next question is can Romo do it and I think the answer to that is he's been given every opportunity in his career and come up short time and time again. He's consistently had great weapons and has put up great stats, but can't come through in big games. The Cowboys defense is much better than the Bills, their WRs are much better, their TE is much better. We have a superior RB and a slightly better O-line. Translation, I think Romo plays on this Bills team and you get close to what you got in Dallas, a mediocre team that misses the playoffs.

You need to look beyond stats a little and use some judgement. Is Romo better than Fitz, sure. Would the Bills be marginally better with Romo than what we currently have, definitely. But, in my opinion, we should be shooting higher than just getting to the playoffs. Romo is a great September through November QB who can't get the job done in December and beyond. That's not me talking either, his actual performance speaks for itself. So sure, maybe it would be fun for you to have a Bills QB on your fantasy team so you can root for him every week, but that's not getting the Bills closer to a Super Bowl win. It just amazes me how people focus on stats and not acutal performances. ** Also, it's not like I wouldn't want to believe in Romo if he came here. I actually like him and how he plays, but the best way to evaluate a 32 year old quarterback is by his career up to this point and frankly, its a major disappointment.

Cutler is a good example. I think it's been mixed results but you can make the argument that the Broncos are much better off than the Bears. Generally speaking, when a team is willing to trade it's starting QB, it's because he's got some serious flaw. No thanks on Romo

Comparing Romo, a guy who's never been past the divisional round in the playoffs to a future HoF'er and likely HoF'er who's won one and two Super Bowls, respectively, is a huge leap. Romo on the Bills as a cheap stop gap is not a bad idea. Trading the 8th pick in the draft for a perennial loser only sets us back further.

McNabb who was a far superior QB in terms of accomplishments (4 NFC title games, 1 Super Bowl) was traded for a second and third. That didn't work out too well for the skins. Matt Cassel was also traded for a second round pick. Also worked out very badly. Drew Bledsoe, ironically, was traded for a first and that worked out terribly. Thank goodness you're not calling the shots at OBD.

Look, he's got one year left on his deal. He's going to be 33 when the season starts in 2013. He's been starting QB for a marquee NFL franchise since 2006 and has won 1 playoff game. Time and time again he's collapsed under pressure. He just had 3 interceptions in the final game to decide the NFC east title. He's got measurables, puts up stats, is a top 10 fantasy QB, but not someone you trade a first round pick for and build a franchise around. Not even close.

It's probably a moot point, but if he does get traded its wont be for more than a third round draft pick. I can promise you that. This isn't fantasy football were talking about. Perhaps. I guess maybe I should rephrase. If I was a general manager and was offered Tony Romo for a 1st round pick, i'd immediately hang up the phone. I'd counter offer with a 5th. Romo isn't winning any superbowls and if you invest a first round pick on a QB, that's exactly what you are expecting, a superbowl winning QB.

So, that was an interesting press conference. I have to say, Brandon is very impressive and I want to believe in his vision and passion. The only thing I am a little concerned about is how much does this actually change things? If a 94 year old Ralph giving up "control" (you have to believe he was very involved prior to this point) really makes a big difference, then I could see this moving forward in a good direction. I am not sure if people caught this, but I loved the small soundbite of Russ alluding to a new stadium on the horizon.

If any team traded a number 1 pick for Romo that GM should be fired immediately. I think you could get Romo for a 5th or so, especially since there is no chance the Cowboys can bring Romo back under the circumstances. If we traded a 5th for Romo and asked him to compete for the starting job and also drafted a young QB to bring along, I'd be pretty happy with that.
