Are you referring to my posts? I wasn't sure because your response didn't have a ton of arrows and 'LOL's which is the standard 14 year old girl M.O. for responding to posts on message boards. I guess I don't understand how that is a defense to an int. Smith was there the entire time. He didn't move more than a couple feet. The ball hit him in the chest. He didn't even fall down and get up. He was standing there, in Tuels vision and passing lane, the whole play. If QBs are just going to start throwing passes based on what the defense is 'supposed' to do, interceptions are going to skyrocket. Thankfully it sounds like EJ is back this week and so is Thad so hopefully we won't see Tuel in action again until next preseason. End the misery that is the Jeff Tuel era.

haha...That's also true for Jimmy Carter. I figured both of them were not on the board though.
-
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. After that, EJ not being a good QB.

Thanks for the clip, it was good to see it from the TV perspective rather than at the game. Im my opinion, from watching it on that playback, Graham was never open. Smith was standing there the entire time. No doubt that he got completely smoked and was supposed to stick with Stevie, but he didn't. You can't make excuses for the QB by saying, "Gee, if the defense did this, that play would have worked". Smith, at worst, took a stutter step to his left because he thought Stevie was going that way. It doesn't mean that Tuel is off the hook and it was an unlucky play. Tuel needs to read that from the second he picked his head up and see that SJ13 is wide open or breaking wide open.

This would be ok. I actually like our DBs now though. I think our Glimore/McKelvin pu pu platter is pretty good and I like Roby as well. But you can't have enough depth in the secondary.
-
Well, it's a moot point now. Flynn just got cut. Obviously, the best situation is with EJ under center. He's got the most upside and a skill set that is good to elite. Thad is an adequate stop gap for a game or two. He's got a pretty good arm and is mobile. Tuel is a horrible choice and almost guarantees us a loss. He's got a terrible arm, which creates accuracy problems. He should be on the Practice Squad.
-
Correction: We hope EJ becomes is a great starter... Thad is an adequate good backup and Tuel isn't that bad. an abomination
-
I honestly can't believe anyone would say they would "like to see Tuel out there next week". That's insane, pure and simple. I would not like to see a 4th string, UDFA, rookie, noodle arm, QB out there ever again. Manuel > Thad > Flynn > Tuel
-
Because although that was a horrible play, I don't really put all the blame on him. Those three downs were mismanaged from the start. Stacking everyone in the box only let's the defense do the same. It's not surprising that we didn't punch it in. Then you put the kid in a tough situation on 3rd down. That's on the coaches in my opinion. My view of Tuel is that I've seen enough of him to think that he just doesn't have an NFL arm. He gets way to much air under his throws which is why he consistently overthrew guys on intermediate routes and under threw guys on deep balls. He had a great throw on the TD to Goodwin (have to give him credit for that). It's a tough situation for Buffalo, but I think you gotta try and put Flynn out there if Thad or EJ isn't ready. Maybe he will suck too, but we know Tuel sucks so why the F not.

It's actually not that single pass that I have a big issue with. Guys make mistakes all the time and you expect that out of a rookie. It's the fact that he floats every pass because he doesn't have the arm strength. He honestly looks completely physically out of place out there. It's not fair to him, actually. He's being put in a position to fail.
-
It's not ridiculous at all. You can't win in this league with a guy that has poor arm strength and average accuracy. Maybe he improves, but right now he's the worst starting QB in the league. At least with Thad he can zip the ball in spots. EJ has all the tools. Tuel, just either needs time to get stronger or maybe he won't get there. But starting him now is an embarrassment.
-
I'd prefer we recognize that as much as we want this kid to be at least a backup caliber QB, he doesn't have the tools to be in this league. We put him on the PS and move on to the next person. Today's performance was the Tuel ceiling. As ugly as that was. Cleveland game was the floor. Any game he plays expect something somewhere in the middle.
-
Exactly? Being better than Trent Edwards is what we are hoping for?
-
This^^^ we need to stop settling for, well anything. I can get over the mistakes, it's the eye test that's a total failure for me. Tuel has no arm. There is no velocity on his passes. His accuracy was poor. He couldn't consistently hit intermediate routes. He doesn't get the same slack as EJ because he doesn't have the potential of EJ. Not even in the same ballpark. Not to mention EJ has outperformed Tuel by a mile. I honestly can't understand why anyone would defend him. He's not going to help us win games and that's all I care about as a fan. I wish him the best and hope he has a wonderful, happy life. But unless he transforms into a completely different QB, I don't want him on this team.
-
I guess over a decade of watching terrible football can desensitize people to bad performances, but that was extremely bad. Not only was result, by any measure of a QB, bad; but Tuel failed the eye test by a mile. If the Bills want to stash him on the PS, fine, but he shouldn't see any game time the rest of the year.
-
Least points of the year for the offenses and most for the opposing defense. Bills offense 13 - KC defense 14
-
We can't be benchmarking our players by where they were drafted (or not drafted). The bottom line is he's not a QB that can win games in the nfl right now. That's like putting Kyle Williams at QB and him going 3-41 with 15 yards and saying, "Well, he did ok for playing out of position"
-
Absolutely. I don't really disagree with any of that, except maybe that Tuel could be a read option guy.
-
Haha! It's pathetic that we even have to discuss this. If they wanted to stash Tuel on the PS until he hits puberty and see if his arm strength improves, that's fine. But it's just embarrassing he's out there now and it's totally unfair to him.
-
Tebow would be a VAST improvement over Tuel. That's not really a ringing endorsement, but the truth. He's accomplished about 1000x more in his college and NFL career than Tuel. Btw - I agree tebow sucks, but just playing into the hate tebow hype machine doesn't mean he isn't much better than Tuel.
-
Manuel - yes Tuel - PS or Cut Lewis - 3rd string Flynn - who knows ???? - primary backup

Analytics: 1st down on the 1 yard line
dubs replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
On any short yardage situation, the best play (IMHO) is to spread the defense out and either sneak or run a misdirection run. Putting 22 guys in the box only makes it more difficult for the RB to find room. It's mind boggling that coaches don't see this. -
I don't think anyone blames Tuel per se. He is what we thought he was, someone who should not be playing nfl football. The only part of his game that is moderately decent is his long ball. Everything else is an abomination. Tuel cost us two games. I don't really blame him anymore than if someone from this board got put into that position. It's totally unfair to expect him to win games, he's just not capable of that.

Annoying Announcers and My Thoughts
dubs replied to voodoo poonani's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was watching the end of the Dallas/Detroit game after the Bills game yesterday. After Dallas kicked the FG to go up by 4, Brian Billick (and whoever was the play by play), came out and starting calling the game over. They were discussing the lead they had in the NFC East and how Detroit was falling behind. They also mentioned how this could have tiebreaker implications and how Dallas should be very happy with where they were at the halfway point. I was so confused. Detroit has Matt Stafford, Calvin Johnson (who had about 300 yards receiving at that point), the ball, and 1:03 to go. I was like, "Um...this game is far from over, not sure why these knuckleheads are acting like the game is over". Low and behold Detroit goes right down the field and scored the go ahead TD. These announcers are idiots. It always amazes me how bad they are. I think Aikman and Buck are the only ones I can even stand.
