What is the obsession with taking a QB in the draft?
Cson76 replied to billsfan89's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rothlisburger won a superbowl behind a bad O line. Manning gets it done. It's a QB driven league, you have to have a franchise QB to win in this league. If the QB is there you take him. You can get tackles in mid rounds, not the case with QB. Accurate, quick decision making takes the pressure off of the O line. -
Also, all time to develop players may be limited due to no training camp. This is why I'm all Miller all the way for #3, safe and can adapt quicker than D line and QB
-
With the lockout/antitrust suit in full swing, we are more than likely going to have a court ordered season using 2010 rules just like it happened last time. That takes away any rookie salary cap and means the Bills will be paying huge bucks to the #3 guy. That also means that trading down is almost impossible as no franchise wants that kind of gauranteed money as a liability. McCoy last year got $35M G jack last year. It all boils down to we're stuck at #3 and we're paying a lot and can't miss. That's why we need to go with the safest pick possible. On another note, no salary cap or salary floor next year either if they don't reach a deal.

Jim Miller breaks down Senior Bowl QB's
Cson76 replied to Cson76's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
sorry, that is me missing the translation, not Miller. As I said, going off my memory -
I was on the road listening to Sirius NFL radio yesterday when Jim Miller (who I have a lot of respect for in evaluating NFL QB's) broke down the QB's. I was driving so I'm recapping what I heard, but the overall message is the same. Christian Ponder-FL. ST. Arm thrower, doesn't open his hips on throws to the left, won't survive in the NFL. we'll be injury prone and won't get enough zip on the ball. Stanzi- Iowa Not enough arm strength, especially given his huge upper body, doesn't convert it into powerful throws. Said he shouldn't be there over the Wisconsin QB. Kaepernick-Neveda spoke very highly of his accuracy, arm strength and mobility. Said his college numbers are Drew Brees like with 10,000 passing and 5,000 rushing. Did mention the difference between WAC and SEC style conferences. However, that is what the senior bowl is about to has those differences out. really liked his size at 6'4" Locker-Washington Said he is the most intriguing of all the prospects due to size, strength mobility. Said he feels he is Mark Sanchez, like, raw, but with skills. Probably could use a year in a system to develop. Dalton-TCU thought very highly of him with this leadership, accuracy and mobility. Said he had the best feet and pocket presence of all the QB's. Thought his arm strength needs a little improvement by wasn't far off NFL caliber.

To: "But, why didn't we trade down?" people
Cson76 replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One thing that hurts our chances of trading this year is the CBA. If no new deal is in place, players can not be traded. You can trade picks, just not players. -
Javid Best has been hurt all year. Spiller's role is more of WR which takes longer to develop. Not to mention we had to showcase Lynch which took development time away from him. Bush's first year 2006 New Orleans Saints att155 yd565 3.6 Javid best 444 yards and a 3.6 average. Not any better than Spiller
-
here is the long term picture of why Spiller will change our offense. It's a needed threat for the long term picture of Chan's http://www.nfl.com/thanksgiving/story/09000d5d81c5c0f6/article/bushs-return-gives-saints-muchneeded-threat-decoy PS. X's and O's included in the article.

1. Adrian Clayborn, DE College: Iowa Height/Weight: 6-3, 287 He put up 11.5 sacks and 20 tackles for loss last season. He also showed up on the big stage, helping Iowa beat Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl. Clayborn has all the traits to be a very good player and is an outstanding person. He should go in the top 10 of the 2011 draft. per Gil Brandt

Guy, I hate losing as much as the next guy. However, you have to realize that rebuilding is rebuilding and there is a right way to do it. You have to separate the fact that previos regimes have failed with their draft picks vs continuing to do the right thing and build through the draft. We have to hope that Nix and crew actually pick the right players, something we haven't done in a long time (Butler anyone). McNabb didn't want to come here. So who else? Bulger, not a qb of the future. Rex Grossman, no better than Trent. Senaca Wallace, forget it. Vick, I'd love to see it, but dealing McNabb eliminates Vick (this year). Derek Anderson, I don't think he's any better than Trent. McCoy, Clausen, time will tell. O-linemen, Gaither hasn't played, and has been injury prone and wants a crazy contract. Flozel, right tackle at best and is on the downside of his career. So what do we gain here? a modest increase and one year later of hashing out if Bell, Merideth and Wang are a long terms answer. You have to let players develop. If there was a great find that we passed on, I guess I missed it. Look at Washington the last few years. All the free agents in the world, and no closer than we are. We've been drafting near Washington since we've been bad. Let people develop and draft good players. We are so thin at talent, its the only way we are going to get close. We've dug ourselves in such a hole with bad drafting, it's a long way back. Get a beer, put on some college football and watch for players you want on the bills and put on a helmet because it's going to be a long, necessary year to get the pick at the top
-
so what you're saying is that you'd like the Bills to do what they did the last several years by thinking we are close and bringing in a vet (T.O. anyone) and ignoring the fact that we needed a total rebuild. We aren't close, nor have we been. The fact of the matter is that the Bills have missed on so many first and and second round picks that we lack good talent. If fact, the only two teams to have fewer draft picks still on the roster since 2006 is Detroit and the Rams. So you are sick of rubbing shoulders of the dwellers of the NFL, that stat shows why we are there. Further, that stat shows you need to hit on draft picks to get great in this league. So trading picks for Bradford or a vet would just put us further behind. Who is the mystery quarterback you want? McNabb didn't want to come here. Bradford costs our first, second, third this year and our first next year. Further putting us in a hole for talent. The fact of the matter is that previous regimes missed on so many first round picks that we lack talent. Maybe we can get Vick to come here next year while we allow our draft pick to learn and get NFL ready. Also, looking forward, the 2011 draft class is QB and OL talent rich. This might be the best tackle class we've seen in a long time. Also, don't forget about Ed Wang, this guy has potential, it sucks that he got hurt in camp, but he'll be our starting RT by years end. There is no quick fix to this disaster of a team. Sit back, and try to get enjoyment of watching guys like David Nelson develop and hope we can get this turned around for next year. We are many players away from competing, not just one or two.

http://www.midwestsportsfans.com/2010/07/v...-with-louis-ck/ Let's trade for him right now. Get'r done buddy. This is why we didn't
-
Don't get caught up on a guy who looks good playing backups. Remember how good Hamden looked every year. He may be a good QB, but, see what he does if he gets the first string nod.

My Camp Report for Tuesday 8/10
Cson76 replied to FutureBillsGM's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I say let teams blitz us, one or two screen passes to Spiller that go the distance, teams will think twice about unleashing the hounds -
why I am not so worried about LT situation
Cson76 replied to PJBrown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
we can play to our strength until we get behind in games and have to throw the rock. I hope the D keeps us close to keep with the running game -
agreed, the last two hours were great. Also, keep in mind that they were supposed to watch the morning practice and report on it. Chan gave the players a break instead, so it threw off their discussions. Moving the chains is the best football show on the planet.

Jevon Snead waived by Bucs
Cson76 replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
he left school after his junior year to enter the draft. Todd McShay was the one pumping him up. No one should ever listen to Todd McShay. This goes down as the worst early entry into the nfl ever -
X guy who lines up on the opposite side of the TE Y lines up off of the line on the same side as the TE Z slot receiver
-
McIntyre will get cut, Mathews plays TE/FB Fitzpatrick will get traded probably to the Bears since he knows Martz's offense and they don't have a backup
-
- I think they keep 4 TEs and no FB because they'll run out of double-TE sets mostly - I can't for the life of me see Naaman make it, but do think he winds up on the PS - I could see Youboty traded before the season starts - if Brohm doesn't look at least serviceable early, he'll get cut for Fitz (no way Brown goes to PS) - if Schobel retires, they'll keep 2 LBs not mentioned above (11 total) and 3 TEs Naaman will probably be practice squad. I like the thoughts here
-
I had my outside looking in players there as well, listed in the second post.

this cut off my outside looking in column outside looking in fitz roscoe jackson chambers mccargo kelsey Harris lankster

Started looking at what we'll keep this year. Roscoe is out in my book, but Chan may like him, Roosevelt to PS then? Can you justify 5 tackles? This also assumes Schobel is in the mix. I think fitz will be moved to the bears or cut. My thought on the bears is he has experience in the martz system, and they say they want a more vetran backup than the rookies. If one of the tackles can long snap, that allows for roscoe or chad jackson to get into the mix. Or, open up another spot for Harris. I know camp is a ways away, but if the season started tomorrow. outside looking in QB 3 edwards brohm brown fitz RB 3 cj lynch fred WR 5 evans hardy easly naaman johnson roscoe jackson TE 3 nelson schooman klopfenstien T 5 bell wang green merideth Ramsey chambers G 4 levitre wood calloway Howard C 1 hangardner k 1 rian p 1 moorman DE 4 stroud carington johnson edwards mccargo NT 3 williams troupe harvey OLB 5 maybin ellis schobel ellison batten kelsey MLB 4 davis poz moats mitchell Harris CB 5 mcgee mckelvin corner yabooty florence lankster S 5 byrd whitner wilson harris Scott LS 1 53

All of our draft picks are noted as good hard working kids. This is an awesome beginning to changing the culture of this organization. more building of the trenches today and that Brown kid for a QB.

one of the first well thought out posts. Nice job. Spiller is also versitile and can line up at WR, but probably not as a rookie
