I don't scout QB's but I don't see how a mild demeanor is suppose to be a bad thing. I understand the appeal of a QB that is going to yell and get his teammates respect but why is a guy who is calm under pressure and doesn't panic bad? Eli Manning for several seasons was knocked as "having that same stupid look on his face", "Soft", "Not having enough dog in him" or "Not willing his teammates" many pundits and fans called him Sheli Manning. Yet a guy with a mild demeanor has won two super bowls and his calm under pressure demeanor is credited as a big reason for the Giants being a team that comes up under pressure. Nothing wrong with an even keel approach.

Thigpen as Backup QB in Seattle?
billsfan89 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As a backup I wouldn't sign Thigpen, as a third string QB yeah I don't think it could hurt odds are if your first two QB options are hurt your third stringer is going to be Thigpen quality. As another poster said pretty much standard issue depth QB. -
Spencer Larsen visiting Bills, per Adam Caplan

The Bills could use a special teams ace wouldn't be such a bad pickup. Bills suddenly active on the free agency end. -
Bills sign UFA DT Alan Branch to 1 year deal
billsfan89 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good move, Bills really needed a space eater, not that Kyle or Dareus couldn't do it but you need depth and it is good that we don't have to spend a pick to get that for at least this year. -
Marrone Changes Practice Facility
billsfan89 replied to SKRAAPY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Never thought that the Tampa 2 was a good idea, but yeah until the W's start to come its all just window dressing. -
Still a lot of WR's out there, DHB was just the first one that came to mind. I think this team has a serious need for WR's we really only have one professional WR on the roster. just bringing in a couple of free agents would mean a lot to the team.
-
I think WR is probably one of the top needs this team has. We really have no targets outside of Stevie. I wouldn't mind them signing a WR like DHB and taking a WR at 8. The team is that devoid of talent at WR. Its sad I also think if there is a really good tight end available in round two that would be a good pickup.

Colt McCoy To Be Released Soon
billsfan89 replied to DefenseWins's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Makes sense, Colt kind of fits what the 49ers want in a backup, Cleveland at least gets something for the guy. -
Smith seems to be a player that you either love or hate. Much like Cam Newton who I think will prove to be a franchise type QB. I don't think Smith is worth trading up for and I don't think he will be there at 8. Something tells me the Eagles will take him, if not the Jags will. Overall I don't think Smith will be good but I see the potential there.

Those who like the Kolb signing post here
billsfan89 replied to Kellyto83TD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like the Kolb signing, not that I think very highly of Kolb but I feel like he is good enough for us not to reach for a QB in the first two rounds. Kolb will be as good as the talent we put around him. With a much better QB class next year we can stock the talent around the QB this year and put a better QB in a better position to have success. Find a decent guard in free agency, grab another LB, and then draft a WR and TE in the first two rounds, then spend the rest of the draft on defense and grab a young guard. -
Cool and Calm look at Bills moves
billsfan89 replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Still moves to be made plus the draft before I can grade the Bills off-season. I like what moves they made outside of letting David Nelson walk (Considering the lack of talent at WR and how cheap his tenure was the move made no sense), but there just haven't been enough moves made yet in order for me to like their approach just yet. They can easily fill the hole at guard and they can find some talent around the defensive side of the ball too. -
Bills officially sign QB Kevin Kolb
billsfan89 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like this move a lot, not that I think Kolb is good BUT he is good enough. I don't like this QB class at all and we have so many needs across the board esp on offense. I am a fan of putting QB's in a position to have success and right now with our targets and our defense we aren't doing a good job of creating an environment were a QB can flourish. The best way to address our needs would be to trade down to the high teens and acquire a 2nd rounder. Pick up Austin or Patterson round 1 and then address other needs with the next three picks. I just don't think drafting a QB for the sake of drafting a QB is going to work out. Next years class is such a better QB class. Better to have better targets or defensive players then be stuck with a QB who isn't working out and was only taken because we needed a QB. Kolb can handle this year, stock up the talent around the QB position and then make a move for a QB next year when you have a much better environment to develop one. -
I still think that even if the Bills like what they have to fit the scheme with Sheppard, Brandham, Lawson, Moats, and Anderson and Mario as supplemental pass rushers on the outside. They still need depth esp at MLB I see the Bills making one more signing at MLB to sure up that position. They really need more bodies at LB even getting a capable MLB would go a long way. In addition to a MLB on the cheap I could still see them going with a LB in the first four rounds too.

Holy **** if that's true what an overpay,

Are we set at LB? Possible solution
billsfan89 replied to WhitewalkerInPhilly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I still think that they are going to need a true MLB even if they feel that with Lawson and what we have fits the defense scheme. Much more needs on the offensive side of the ball -
Reminds me of Vicks 100 million dollar deal, likely just 6 one year deals or at worst a two year type deal. I feel like its a lot of NFL style dollars that Romo will never actually see.

Chargers release Jared Gaither
billsfan89 replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wouldn't mind taking a flier on him guy is talented but the issue is health no more than a minimum deal. Worth the chance though -
Pretty much, agree. Granted the Marrone hire is going to be determined by his on field production more so than anything else. But in three years how much better off is the roster than when Buddy took it over? While after the Jauron years I thought the team was devoid of talent outside of a few pieces now while I think the roster is in better shape but not by much. And after three seasons that's how badly the job has been done.

Dalton and Kaepernick are more so products of the systems/organizations they play for. The only QB we really missed out on was Russell Wilson who despite his sensational rookie year still has the jury out on him (And considering he went in round 3 clearly a lot of other teams missed too). Dalton and Kaepernick play for teams with very good defenses. The Bengals don't ask Dalton to do too much while the 49ers have a uber talented team and good scheme built around Kaepernick. Overall I feel like the success those players have had more so goes to show that putting people in a position to have success and utilize their skills works. What I knock Nix for is his inability to hit on the players he has drafted. Troup and A.Williams being key players. Both second rounders who are struggling. And Nix better hope that Dareus, Gilmore, and Spiller live up to their potential too because if they turn out to be just decent players (Or in Spillers case a guy that can't stay on the field) then Nix has a indefensible record. Overall its hard to find a QB but when you draft pieces to build the rest of your roster you better build that roster. Had we hit on those 2nd rounders this team would be in a much better position with that alone.
-
If the Raiders outright release him I wouldn't mind bringing him in on a two year deal less than 5 million per. I think T.Jackson sucks and I much rather have Palmer be the veteran stop gap guy as opposed to Jackson. Also as a one year type deal I am not opposed to Palmer much better QB class next year.

Fred Davis FA TE has dinner with Bills brass

I don't know if his previous salary is any indication as to what he would expect, you are worth what someone is willing to pay you this year. -
Ted Johnson call Wilfork's wife "ugly"
billsfan89 replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If its the truth I am not going to take to task a ex-football player who I don't know calling his former teammate (Who I don't know) wife ugly. I am not going to be outraged on behalf of someone I don't know when all they did was tell the truth. -
