  1. Garbage stats don't really exist in the first 3 quarters. Any play could result in a big play that helps to turn the momentum in a game. I think if one team has a big lead the last offensive drive or two (Depending on the size of the lead) is garbage time. Outside of those last couple drives in a blowout garbage time is overblown.
  2. The guys was said to have first two round talent but was a huge question mark off the field. My only question was how did the guy last til the 7th round if that was true? I mean Aaron Hernandez was drafted in the 4th round with a similar scouting report. Makes me think that the Aaron Hernandez situation has scared off a lot of teams from taking these types of on field talent off field headache players. I would really like to see Cyrus kicked into guard. If he can hit at guard the O-line has a 4-5 year window to be stellar. If Spikes is willing to be a running down specialist I could see him having a nice role on this team. But I am not sure that after this season (When the team will have Kiko coming back) if he is going to want to stay with a team that will only be using him as a prominent role player. I think the Bills would offer him solid money (2.5ish million a year) for multiple years to do that role. But another team with a huge need at LB might offer him more.
  3. Who cares about what the experts say. Just take it one week at a time. Squish the Fish and move on to the next team.
  4. Short term its a huge PR hit and it might cost Goodell his career. But long term, people still love football and no one is going to boycott it as long as Goodell and Rice fall on the sword. The NFL will blame Goodell and maybe one or two other mid management types and chalk it up as a failed incident. They will then hire a new comish and everyone will forget how much they hate Goodell and just go back to enjoying football. Revenues won't even go down this year.
  5. The coaching staff and front office will be fired or kept on the strength of this season. If the team is showing good progress and finishes with 8 or more wins I think they earned one more year. IF they make the playoffs or get 10 wins its hard to see how they don't get another two years. They are far from safe but this season will make or break their jobs.
  6. I don't know why but this season has me in such a pessimistic mood. When the Bills went three and out and then Chicago cut up the defense with just a few plays I already thought the game was lost. The team bounced back and showed resiliency. But even after a week 1 win and some great news about the ownership of the team I can't help but feel pessimistic. Don't know why maybe all the years of optimism lead me to think that if I am pessimistic one year it will all work out.
  7. Move on as good as Polian was at the age of 71 I don't think he has it in him any more. But if the Bills put together a successful season this year its clear that the Whaley regime deserves another year or two to continue to build. If it all falls apart this year then the team needs to bring in a fresh new regime that can rebuild. Its just not 1990 anymore.
  8. Your bringing in a guy to backup either your third or second string linemen. Your choices aren't going to be that great. At least you get some versatility with Doug. That's something? Still don't know how much better or worse he is than the rest of the guys on the street.
  9. Schwartz's defense seemed more disciplined but less aggressive and exotic than Pettine's defense. Pettine's defense was an uber aggressive blitzing defense. It generated a lot of sacks and tackles for a loss but it also got gashed big time as teams were able to get through and take advantage of its aggressiveness at times. Schwartz's defense seemed to be less willing to blitz and more willing to get nickled and dimed in the passing game to maintain discipline in the run defense and keep the big passing play from happening. That's just my impression from one game where the game plan seemed to be to allow Cutler to get the underneath stuff and try and have Cutler make the mistake forcing the ball down field. Basically take advantage of a possible lack of patience from Cutler. Its just one game but I would like to see how Schwartz handles other situations.
  10. Sammy looked like he belonged out there. Some good short catches and another one that was called back. Throw in the fact that had EJ thrown him a slightly better ball he probably would have had a really big play. Too early to tell but Sammy certainly gave the team reason to view him optimistically if you take a look at the context of the game and the offense. EJ only threw 22 times which included a extra possession in overtime. So the opportunities for a lot of catches and eye popping numbers was going to be limited to one receiver which ended up being Robert Woods. I don't recall any plays drawn up for him but I was watching it at work on a computer so I could have missed it. But Sammy and Mike Williams represented themselves well. Sammy was targeted 4 times second to only Woods who was targeted 6, Mike Williams targeted 3 times. Just a frame of reference.
  11. To take the devils advocate perspective. Take what happens on this message board after a win or loss. If the Bills win the day of the game and the day after its jubilation unbridled optimism. Then two days later the optimism is still there but its slowly coming down. Three days after it becomes more even keel and the perspective of the entire season sets in. The day of a loss and the day after its opposite, everyone sucks and the team is going nowhere. Then two days after the world may not be ending but its going to ****. Then three days after the perspective of the season sets in. So Bears fans who just suffered an upset are probably just lashing out and taking pot shots at the underdog because in their world the sky is falling. But screw them go Bills.
  12. This show seems like it will be something whose concept will be grander than its execution. Great idea but in practice it will probably be lame. At least that's my perception of it.
  13. What a win for this team. Normally they find some goofy way to loose a game like this. But they found a way to win a close game. The other team made mistakes and the Bills capitalized and made some big plays of their own. When they made mistakes late they didn't fold either. Its good to win an away game against a decent team. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.
  14. I think some team will end up picking him up once injuries hit. Surprised the Browns didn't pick him up. Teams will get fooled by his athleticism and think they can be the one to turn it around.
  15. PB, Kiko, and Brandham might form a good LB core going forward. Spikes is a solid guy to have this year with Kiko out due to injury. But I am excited to see the young LB's in action. Sink or swim season for Brandham.
  16. For whatever reason I am not excited for this upcoming season. I am not really confident in this coaching staff, I am not really confident in EJ, and I am not sure how confident I am in the defense if the offense doesn't put up a lot of points. Maybe its just years of terrible results wearing my optimism down. While I am hoping for the best my mind tells me its not going to be a great season.
  17. You could say that about a lot of teams that have struggled to find QB's. QB is such an important position it impacts every single aspect of the game, and great ones are so hard to find. Even a good one like Tony Romo is kind of hard to find. It sucks the team hasn't found a QB but EJ could be it, EJ is young and QB's do take time to develop sometimes.
  18. I am keeping an eye on Spiller, but I Would steer clear of him in the first three rounds even in a PPR league. 4th or 5th round would be a good slot to take him if you ask me. I think his value is that of a number 2 running back, but the guy is boom or bust for sure.
  19. Dude needs to get some snaps with the starters before anyone gets too excited. Still better to play good against the B team than to stink against them.
  20. Tuel stinks, the Bills should have invested in a more veteran backup and had the vet and Thad battle it out for the backup QB spot. We know what Tuel is and he is never going to be anything in the league.
  21. If he ends up moving to guard and is really good there, then its a pick well spent still. This pre-season process is in its very early stages.
  22. Joique Bell has to be a Hall of Fame Pre-Season player (After bouncing around a little he has made a decent name for himself with the Lions). Trent Edwards also made the pre-season work for himself, looking good in the pre-season only to suck when the games counted.
  23. There has to be some progress made, 8-8 should be enough to keep his job. But a 6-10 season puts him on the bubble. It would be hard to retain a coach after back to back 6 win seasons or worse, esp when significant resources were put into the teams.
  24. The dude is retiring isn't he? The guy was guaranteed 6 million from the Bucs this season. But he wasn't able to play, so they settled with him on the money so he could retire.
  25. CJ will be gone after this season. As much as I don't want to lose the guy I just think the guy is using this season as a tryout for a bigger contract. Dude will probably end up with a 4 million dollar a year deal with a small guarantee in year one of that deal.
