Brady to the Bills ????? Possibility?
billsfan89 replied to plenzmd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
However that was the year after they went 16-0 and lost the superbowl. That team that Cassell manned was super talented on offense and decent on defense (In paticular red zone defense). The Pats* talent base isn't as good as it was then. They depend on Brady to get the ball out to Gronk and a mismash of mid-level recievers. Without Brady their offense becomes a bottom third offense in the league. The defense has improved a lot in the past years but they still wouldn't be a good enough team without Brady. QB's are hard to find no matter how good the talent and coaching is on the team. Having that franchise guy makes a huge difference. You don't simply let that go. -
Brady to the Bills ????? Possibility?

Marrone might have done us another favor. I like Polian but we need to move forward not backward. Whaley is a young GM who understands the modern scouting and analytics. I would much rather the team allow Whaley to hire his own coach and build the team his way for the next 2-3 seasons and see the results.

Whaley will head coaching search
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think that's that big of a deal. If Whaley gets the final say Russ putting in his 2 cents isn't a bad thing. Russ probably has contacts and connections all across the league, it isn't the end of the world if he throws some names out there or gives Whaley some numbers. Seems like Whaley is the guy making all the calls. -
AJ Smith did a really good job stacking the Chargers with talent on both sides of the ball from 2003-2006. His 2007-2009 draft classes were pretty terrible and set the organization back, although he had better draft classes in 2010-2012 but they were far from great. It wouldn't be the worst choice to have as GM. But honestly I would like to see Whaley play it out. Whaley is a young GM with a lot of new ideas and an aggressive approach. I think getting a 65 year old re-tread GM might have set the team back.

Head Coach Candidate: Mark Helfrich
billsfan89 replied to voodoo poonani's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Oregon is willing to pony up the money to make him stay. Top tier college coaches are harder than ever to pry away. Colleges are willing to match money and give full control to coaches. Chip Kelly was in trouble with the NCAA which helped to lead to his leaving. Chip Kelly also got a 5 year 32.5 million dollar deal along with full control of the 53 man roster. If the Bills wanted to poach a college coach they are going to have to put together a big money deal and offer some deal of control over the organization. -
Its hard to get big time college coaches to hop over to the NFL. The best college coaches make very close if not more than the highest paid NFL coaches. Also College coaches get more control than pro-coaches. If you are going to get a college guy I think you are looking at getting just under a top tier guy.

Doug Marrone opts out of contract
billsfan89 replied to The Poojer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marrone decided that he was only going to stay if he got more money and power within the organization. The ownership and management wasn't prepared to fully buy into Marrone without seeing him for another season at the very least. Now Whaley gets to install a new coach and have it be his guy. While Marrone gets his money and gets to find a new opportunity and bank some money. -
Russ Brandon and Marrone's Opt-Out Clause
billsfan89 replied to Bills1218's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would have liked to have seen Marrone get one more year at this job. But I wasn't too high or low on him, so losing him isn't the best but we could always find a capable coach as long as Schwartz and the defense are still in place. Also Whaley is fully in charge so we no longer have to deal with a power struggle. Overall not having a power struggle between the GM And head coach is a good thing. Management and coaching needs to be on the same page. -
New HC's effect on UFA

Free agency is usually in March well after the league year ends. -
Raiders interested in Russ Brandon
billsfan89 replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why would Russ move from the Bills who finally have a stable ownership group and have pretty much let him run the organization to a messy situation in Oakland where they can't give him more power. -
Cordy Glenn early season injury mystery
billsfan89 replied to BrycePaup4ever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All I hope is that Cordy returns to form next season he was pretty average for most of the season. -
.5 sacks is a pretty arbitrary addition to his sack totals. Yeah double digits is a much better optic but who cares about a stat correction giving a guy a half a sack. His value is his value at this point. That stat correction isn't going to change much.

No good QB ever becomes a free agent (Drew Brees was a once in a lifetime situation). Any QB you trade for is either going to be a high profile back up (Matt Flynn or Matt Schuab type) or a reclamation project (Damaged goods rarely pan out). QB's drafted in rounds 3-7 rarely turn up gems (Tom Brady is once in a lifetime and even a Russell Wilson/Tony Romo type is a once generation type find). QB's drafted in round 2 are pretty rare to be franchise guys (Usually you get a Colin Kaepernick or Andy Dalton type). And even round 1 or top 10 QB's are very hit or miss. Its a frustrating process to try and find a good Tony Romo type QB let alone find a great top 6 or 7 franchise QB. If you look at the Bills options to try and find a QB its not going to be easy. The best thing to do is to have EJ compete with a competent vet and hope EJ turns it around.

Hardy didn't have the fluidity and agility of movement as well as the mental capacity to play in the NFL, throw in a chronic hamstring injury and it just wasn't meant to be. The guy was big and had decent speed. But he just couldn't run routes very well and his hands were average at best. After the Bills released him in 2010 the Ravens picked him up for a camp but he got cut. Seems like he has had a lot of issues post NFL life hope he gets the help he needs.

Where was Cyrus K. this year? I dont get it.
billsfan89 replied to BrycePaup4ever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We all expect a 2nd round pick to come in and start right away. While not an unreasonable expectation as a lot of 2nd round picks do come in and contribute. But like every player they all don't come in and get off to the best start. Cyrus looked slow and lumbering in pre-season. He also didn't look very over powering when kicked inside. However its only one season and given a full off-season of NFL conditioning and better coaching after seeing him on film might lead to improvement. -
Marrone is 15-17 in two seasons as Bills coach. Clearly the guy is an incomplete as far as how good of a coach he will be. I don't think anyone sees how good or bad Marrone is yet. Personally I would want to give Marrone one more year here to see how well he can rebuild the offense. Another off-season with good cap space and another draft (Even sans number 1 pick) could bring enough talent over to the offense to put this team over the hump. Rex is tailor made for the 49ers job. Team that has a ton of defensive talent and needs a more player oriented coach. Don't know if he is the best fit but the generalities seem to make sense.
-
The team is in desperate need of a guard. A player like James Carpenter would really solidify the O-line you could then bring in a guard in the 3rd round for depth and competition. Its clear Urbik, Pears, and Hairston are gone while Richardson and Williams are on the bubble. The team needs better O-line play at guard. The team has the cap space to spend 5-7 million on a guard and resign Hughes and spend the money needed on a QB (The ones that will be avaiable)

Erin Andrews date or Bills home playoff game?
billsfan89 replied to BrycePaup4ever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Eh Erin Andrews is hot but not worth giving up a home playoff game for. Now if we are talking Kate Upton or a home playoff game now that's a tough decision. -
Current situation makes little sense. Where is this going?
billsfan89 replied to jahnyc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think there is as much uncertainty as there is speculated to be. Marrone isn't going anywhere, Schwartz is staying as long as he doesn't take a head coaching job, and Whaley seems to be staying put. The only instability is Hackett who I think will be fired as part of a shake up on the offense. -

billsfan89 replied to BrycePaup4ever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
True can we give the guy another full off-season and training camp to see how the guy has developed. Just because a guy hasn't started and done well his rookie year does not mean he won't develop in his second or third year. Not everyone starts or does well their first year but plenty of players adjust and take to coaching over the course of their careers. -
Pass if Marone wanted him he would have been drafted in the 4th round instead of Duke Williams.

EJ is an option but this team needs to find another veteran option. The defense could be scary good if retained and with possible upgrades along the offensive line and at tight end the QB could be put in a better position to have success. The team simply can not be all in on EJ without having a fall back. Not sure what else is out there but the team needs to find a proper challenger at QB for EJ.

Brady re-works contract; Pats have extra 24 mill
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All it does is allow them to resign Revis and a couple other players. Remember Revis is a free agent and will be commanding 15+ million a year on the open market.
