Bills to go in little-talked-about direction at QB?
billsfan89 replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Colin Kapernick is the only out there QB option I see for the Bills. Every free agent weither its Locker or Sanchez or the others has been talked about. A trade for Foles or Bradford has been talked about. The other "out there" QB options like trading for a franchise guy have been dismissed as fan hope/speculation. I think with Roman here and Kapernick not coming off the best year and a new coaching staff coming in, its possible San Fran might trade him. -
All Things Incognito (Richie returns, signs contract)
billsfan89 replied to RalphOP83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think going RI for the Right Guard spot isn't a bad move if they are willing to put money into the Left Guard spot. But if they leave the Left Guard spot open its going to seem like a minor upgrade. Incognito gives the Bills a decent option at Right Guard but they still need to go out and find a starting caliber Left Guard to pair with him. Decent signing like the move but other moves need to be made. -
Richard Sherman blasts Goodell/Kraft relationship
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Has there been a shittier commissioner than Rodger? The guy is doing so much long term damage to the sport in the name of short term profits. Even Gary Betteman has the excuse of the NHL being the least popular product of the 4 major sports. Goodell is ruining the sport. -
I think Pears, Spiller, and possibly Spikes and Hughes don't get resigned (Hughes and Spikes depend on price). As Far as cuts C.Williams will likely be cut due to his salary, I can also see Rivers getting cut due to not being a fit for the defensive scheme. I think Manny Lawson stays till training camp. Lawson was a fit in Pettin's scheme and I think the depth on the front 7 is important to Ryan's defense. So I think they keep Lawson in camp to see if another linebacker could beat him out for that spot. Interesting to see how many people think Freddie could be a causality. I think no matter what Freddie gets into training camp. Assuming the team lets CJ go even drafting a running back in the 2nd to 4th round still only puts Brown, player X, and Dixon on the roster. Hard to not see Freddie as being a third running back. The guy can catch and grind out yards, and is still decent in pass protection. For an all purpose back he has value. Unless the team resigns CJ I do not see a scenario where Freddie isn't on the team. Also I don't think Chandler is cut either. Chandler is a really good number 2 tight end and his salary isn't unreasonable. If a tight end gets drafted round 2 it would still help to have a veteran tight end on the roster. Even if the team spends in free agency on a tight end having Chandler for depth helps. But as the second best TE on the roster Chandler has value. Upgrading Tight end doesn't mean Chandler has no place on the roster. Depth is always key to building a winner. Even if the team drafted a player high or went into free agency to grab a TE doesn't mean Chandler couldn't be used in situations or as depth. His salary isn't unreasonable as far as tight ends go.

Meaningless mock drafts are fun
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The top 2 picks are really good. But this draft only makes sense if the team addresses the guard issue big time in free agency. Tight end is a need always good to get another playmaker out on the offense. Going for a big bruising back in round 3 makes sense too although I would prioritize other positions but if Yeldon is sitting there at 81 the value is too good. Yeldon would be the thunder to Bryce Brown's lighting, while Freddie would be the all purpose back. Dixon would slide back to being depth and special teams. -
Being an offensive assistant under Greg Roman might actually allow Hackett to develop. Learn under a guy who has been doing the job for a few years in a relatively successful system. Hackett was simply in over his head and Marrone was probably not the right mentor.

Bills parting ways with CJ Spiller? - NFL Insiders on ESPN
billsfan89 replied to K D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not a huge loss if the team lets him go. Upgrade the O-line and it will upgrade the running game. I think CJ can be productive in a Darren Sproles like role. But this team shouldn't pay more than role player money to keep CJ. -
The Bills would be the local guy who they hired for the night just to lose to the main event guy in 30 seconds.

Report: Chip planning to move up for Mariota
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Eagles will have to part with 20, 52, and next years 1st along with packaging Foles (Or trading Foles for picks and adding those picks into a package). Lets say you get a 2nd and a 4th for Foles, you could then package that with picks 20, 52, another mid round pick and a future 1st. But I am not sure that the Eagles would still have enough to move up. Maybe adding in more future picks would put the trade over the top. -
The salary cap no longer works as intended
billsfan89 replied to BillsVet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The reason playoff appearances get stacked to a set of teams disproportionately is because of the QB position. Teams with a top 5-7 QB are going to make the playoffs year in and year out if not close to that. Teams with good QB's 8-13 are going to be in contention for the playoffs every year. If you fall into the bottom half of the league in terms of QB play you are going to make the playoffs a lot less having to depend on a defense and a team effort to compensate for the QB. I am not sure what you could really do to remedy the situation. Maybe as advanced scouting and stats is aging scouts can predict which QB's out of college will do better. But still there are only so many people that can play the QB position. Either way QB's are the reason why you don't see more parity in the NFL. The salary cap does make committing 20+ million to a QB weaken the team and have a negative consequence. But overall the position is so much at a premium and rare that its not enough to overcome that one negative. -
ANYONE ELSE HAVE SYMPATHY FOR HACKETT?
billsfan89 replied to BillAndPhilFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was just a case of a guy being in over his head. A lack of talent combined with a bad head coach tanked the guy. He probably should have been brought on at a lower level position and brought along slowly. The guy is going to get another job but it sucked that his big break was a little too soon for him. -
Should we sign DeMarco Murray?
billsfan89 replied to TheBillsWillRiseAgain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes if the price is right at 6-7 million a year along with not having to guarantee that much beyond the first year and maybe a small or modest guarantee year 2. But that would only be a real option if the team picked up a monster guard and kept Hughes and other defensive free agents. But I doubt Murray would want to go to a team with no QB. I think Murray would have enough suitors to pick his destination. -
Why isn't Jim Schwartz hired yet?
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Schwartz left the team fairly recently and relatively later in the process. The guy was probably taking some time off to weight his options. He got hired by the Bills after two losing seasons in Detroit. You don't think after coordination of a top 5 defense has raised his stock somewhat? Maybe the only issue is that a lot of teams don't run the wide 9. But if a team is running a 4-3 it shouldn't be much of a change to run the wide 9. Either way expect to hear about the guy getting interviews later this week. I can't imagine a team wouldn't want him. -
I suspect with the Bills defensive mind you will see the Bills be much more conservative than the Jets. Although I do think the Jets will play to not turn the ball over Chan always seems to be more aggressive with Screens and short/medium passes down the field. So I think the Jets will produce better numbers but a lot more turnovers. I do think the Jets with their first round pick being so high and their huge cap space could make more moves to upgrade the offense. Getting CJ as a Darren Sproles type, signing a good WR, and drafting a QB or offensive player high could really improve their offense. The Bills could upgrade guard and tight end but QB is a lot harder to deal with without a high draft pick.

CJ has Jets "on his list" with Gailey there
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Makes sense. The Jets have Ivory who is the between the tackles guy, Johnson is a bust at this point of his career and will be out of the league this or next year. The Jets could use a affordable offensive playmaker in the Darren Sproles mold. CJ wouldn't need to be an every down back with Ivory there. Chan used him well in the past. The Jets also have a lot of cap space a 3 year 9-12 million dollar offer would be easy for the Jets to offer. I see it as a good fit for both parties. The Jets have Harvin, Decker, Amoro, and Ivory, adding CJ and another reciever would really round out their core well. -
Changes to Draft/Game Rules to Overcome Good QB Dearth?
billsfan89 replied to Fadingpain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The problem is QB development. A rookie QB drafted in rounds 1 or 2 is expected to start right away. When they don't have success year one they get booted or their job becomes subject to removal. A QB like EJ should have been put behind a veteran QB like Orton for the first two or three years of his career. Then he should have been given two years to start no matter what and then judge his career. Asking a kid straight out of college to come in and lead an NFL team is a crazy proposition. Yet that's what happens because its win yesterday in the NFL. Coaches can get fired after just one year and they don't have time to really put 5 years to try and develop a QB. I am not saying the EJ or any bust QB would have been a MVP or franchise type QB with that type of development but I think you would give a lot of guys more of a chance to develop if teams were much more willing to develop a QB properly. -
The Five Worst Trades In NFL History
billsfan89 replied to sferris's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are a lot of trades in NFL history that look bad. A lot of the time its because veteran players don't get equal value. There are a lot of Lynch for a 4th round pick or Hughes for Sheppard type trades out there. -
Marrone interviewing in Denver
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It might be too late in the game for Marrone to get a college job (Recruiting is already on the way) so he might just sit back and collect that 4 million and try to pry a college job next year. -
No way the Redskins take RGIII for EJ straight up. EJ hasn't proven anything in the NFL, while RGIII had a rookie year for the ages. So I doubt the Skins would give up on RGIII for a QB who has proven nothing.

Sportrac predictions for salaries: Hughes 5-$60m
billsfan89 replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Iupati is gonna get more than that. Guards like Levitre get paid way more and Iupati is worth a big payday. I suspect Hughes will get less than 5-60 the market is flooded with pass rushers. But if that's the type of contact Iupati gets I would sign him over Hughes all day. JPP would be a better deal if we were trying to dish out a 5-60 type deal. -
Cap space and why every big FA is in play for Bills
billsfan89 replied to Gestes72's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Backloaded contracts are fools gold. Players have realized that the short term money is what counts. The money and the gaurantee in years 2-3 on long term deals is what really counts. Years 4-5 are usually pay as you go team options, anything beyond that is usually something the team will either not end up paying. -
NFL launches veteran FA combine
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Makes sense. A lot of older players and marginal free agents were complaining that they were getting edged out by college players. Giving them some outlet to showcase their skills before the start of free agency is a good idea. This will help a lot of 2-4 year players on the bubble of rosters stay on and help their careers. While more veteran players 10+ years in the league can go out and have a better opportunity to hang on. -
Pepper's Interviewing with the Giants
billsfan89 replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good to see Pepper get a look. As much as I would want to keep the guy its hard to hold a guy back from a good opportunity. Selfishly I hope he doesn't get it because he is such a good coach but I would be happy for him if he got a good gig. Maybe after Fewell they will be sick of Buffalo coaches. -
Raiders hire DelRio; Niners to promote Tomsula to HC
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Del Rio isn't a bad hire (Decent job turning around the Jags which has been something a lot of coaches are having a hard time doing now, and he did a good job with Denver's defense). But he isn't a very good hire either. Just a run of the mill mid level defensive coach. They should have taken a risk on a more up and coming coach as opposed to Del Rio
