  1. I would love to have Stevie back as I think the combo of Stevie, Sammy, and Woods would be really good with Hogan the 4th WR and maybe draft or sign a cheap big body. But signing Stevie would need to be accompanied by getting a good tight end either through the draft or through free agency. The team could use Stevie who I think could make for a great slot WR but the team would also still need to get a big more dynamic red zone target too. That being said I don't think Stevie would return unless the market for him isn't there and the Bills offer him a one year mid-level prove it deal. I think Stevie would rather go to a team with a really good QB and try to pile up good numbers and chase a ring.
  2. Pass plenty of guards out there that could be had. I guess if the first tier guards go over priced he might be a decent fall back option.
  3. I think the team will be active in free agency. Hughes resigning is 50/50 but I do think they will pick up another guard at a more than modest price. I also think they could make a couple of other mid level moves mostly on offense. Either way it should continue to be an interesting off-season.
  4. Wynn is definitely a guy that could be useful in Ryan's scheme and provide a lot of helpful depth. Would like the move if they did it.
  5. True Charles Clay could command in the range of 6 million but teams could look at those contracts and not want to give out big money to those mid level tight ends. Markets always go up and down due to performance of previous contracts. So it could be a sort of market correction. I wouldn't invest more than 4-5 million in Clay, his injury history is a huge concern.
  6. If the price is fair then I think its a solid move. Clay would be a good combo with Chandler as Clay is really versatile in blocking and where he can play.
  7. Goodwin is on the bubble, I assume. The Bills will give him a good shot to make the team but if he doesn't preform well in the pre-season I think its likely Rex would cut him.
  8. I think they are worried about Searcy costing a lot. Spikes is a role player who will likely command low to mid level starter money. I don't see how they could let Searcy go if he only commands a modest salary.
  9. EJ got really hamstrung by the injuries he incurred his rookie year. That was the year he would have gotten a full 16 games to start with low expectations. But the Bills great defense last season put a lot of pressure on him to win now and he didn't get a full 16 in the year before due to injuries.
  10. I would rather spread the money around rather than go after Revis or resign Hughes. Go after a big ticket guard in the 5-7 million a year . Gilmore, Graham, and McKelvin all are pretty good and I think Robey could be a solid dime back. I would much rather go after a guard and bring back Searcy and Spikes than spend the money on Revis or even Hughes. Rex had an outstanding CB duo with Revis and Cromartie in 2010. They basically dialed up a ton of exotic blitzes and packages while having those two lock down the top receivers of the opposing team.
  11. The NFL does need a farm system. Sometimes players have warts in their games that can be fixed or improved with playing. QB's and even most other positions don't really get developed if players struggle out the box. Playing time in the NFL is very limited, coaches and GM's are playing for their jobs now they don't have that much time to develop a player. A farm system would really help players get a second lease on life as well as improve the overall quality of the league (players improving their game with playing time will lead to better players in the league). Baseball has local A, AA, and AAA teams plus the Japan and various other international leagues. The NHL has the AHL and the NBA has various Euro leagues and has really started to develop the NBA D-League. The NFL use to have NFL Europe and the CFL still exists but the CFL isn't the same rules and the NFL teams have no direct relationship.
  12. If they sign McCown its a sign they are all in on EJ. McCown is a solid veteran backup but by no means should really be a starting option. I would like to bring in a better QB like Sanchez or Locker one that could actually improve over EJ as opposed to just being an option if EJ fails.
  13. Bills still need depth at WR, if you aren't going to go after a big TE you should go after a WR like Jackson. Only thing is what free agent WR is going to come here with the QB situation we have.
  14. Rex knows the value of an O-line. Rex saw first hand in New York how ineffective his team got as the O-line degraded. His first year with the Jets their O-line was stacked. Mangold was one of the best centers in the league (Still pretty dam good), Ferguson was playing like a top 10 LT, Alan Faneca was still a top 10 guard, Damian Woody was a very good veteran RT, and the weakest link was Brandon Moore a solid starter. In 2010 they replaced Woody who retired with a well below average player in Wayne Hunter but the rest of the line was still pretty good. In 2011 Faneca was due a big hit on the cap and a bit past his prime so they cut him. They went cheap trying to replace Faneca with a cheaper younger player. From 2011-2014 the Jets were horribly mediocre the same as their offensive line. I think the signing of Incognito is a sign that Rex knows the value of the O-line. I suspect someone who makes a lot on the O-line gets cut and they bring in a fairly high profile guard.
  15. I would pass on Winston. Being a QB in the NFL requires a madness of greatness. To be a good QB you have to be hard working and have the physical tools. You have 11 guys on the other side of the ball trying to ensure your failure (As well as the numerous coaches and staff that coach, prepare, and train them). You have 10 teammates around you that are trying to pull together to accomplish a goal and you have to incorporate all your coaches and staff's adjustments and coaching. Overall I think for a QB to be good and worth spending a very high draft choice on I better have no issues as far as work ethic.
  16. Even if the Colts gave you pick 29 and next years 1st I still wouldn't take it (Although it wouldn't be a terrible offer). Dareus is a game changing defensive tackle and very young, extend him and plug him there for the next 5+ years.
  17. How do you acquire a QB should be the question you ask and then you move forward from there. 1- The Draft Top 5 pick. The top of the draft is where the top QB's go. Your Andrew Luck's and Peyton Manning types get drafted here. There are also second tier good to very good QB options like Matt Ryan, Matthew Stafford, Phillip Rivers, Cam Newton, Eli Manning (Probably the best of the bunch). Looking at the top QB's in the game its easy to feel like this is the best way to find a QB. But wiffing on these selections can set back franchises years. Currently in the league are possible busts Sam Bradford and RGIII as well as Mark Sanchez, and of course historically awful busts like Jamarcus Russell. 2- Picks 6-40. Later 1st round picks and early 2nd round picks. Some gems here like Aaron Rodgers, Joe Flacco and Ben Rothlisberger. But a lesser degree of success for guys like Andy Dalton, Jay Cutler, Colin Kapernick, Nick Foles, ect and tons of busts and probably busts like EJ, Geno Smith, Christian Ponder, Johnny Football, Tebow, Brady Quinn, Jimmy Calusen, Jake Locker, Blane Gabbert, ect. The investment level is lower as teams can rebound quicker but the level and rate of success goes down (Even Flacco and Rothlisberger were game managers for long periods of their careers). 3- Late in the draft. Beyond the beginning of round 2. Some gems Tom Brady, Russell Wilson, and Tony Romo. But those only come around once in a generation. There are tons of busts and career backups that come from the back end of the draft. Overall its not a very dependable route to go. 4- Free Agency. Good QB's simply don't become free agents. Drew Brees and Peyton Manning (At the back end of his career coming off of an injury) were once in a generation type things. The stars really have to align for a QB worth anything to be a free agent. Any QB's that become free agents are like reclamation projects or career backups. Very low level of success to go this route esp in finding anything more than a stop gap QB. 5- Trade. There are only 2 types of QB's that get traded backups or reclamation projects. Backups are risky at best they are Matt Schuab but most of the time they are Matt Cassell or Kevin Klob. Carson Palmer is probably a good example of a impactful reclamation project while Jay Cutler has been a mixed bag for the Bears. Its a weird situation to be in for the Bills because trade and free agency are their best options and there doesn't appear to be a good trade option on the market nor is there anything other than a stop gap on the free agent market. In the future the Bills would be better off drafting multiple QB's in round 1 and trying to develop them with a low degree of patience.
  18. Mike Iupati would round out the offensive line well. Resigning Spike or bringing in David Harris would fortify the depth and physical nature of the front 7. Signing Hughes or another pass rusher would also keep the front 7 one of the best in the league.
  19. Incognito wasn't getting in trouble with the law, the guy isn't really a thug so much as he is an !@#$ with a screw loose. You can bring in one or two of those guys into a team as long as the rest of the locker room is good guys.
  20. If I were the GM I would re-do Mario's deal to add 5 million in cap space. I would also look to cut Keith Rivers and some other contracts to free up more cap space (I think there are players like Lawson and Rivers that could be easily cut to save cap space) Then I would try to resign Jerry Hughes or another one of the many pass rushers avaiable for around 10 million and sign Mike Iupati to fill the other guard position. As far as QB goes I bring in Jake Locker or Mark Sanchez sadly the best of the bunch but both guys give you an option at QB and can compete with EJ. Signing Iupati and Huges would pretty much cut out big signings for the Bills this year. With what little cap space there is I would resign Spikes if his demands are fair if not go sign David Harris. You could also probably resign Searcy to keep some of the depth on the defense. Draft wise I go tight end or WR round 1 to add to the play making ability of the offense and then just go best player available beyond that. I don't think the team should over spend on Hughes but a 8-9 million dollar a year deal seems fair if not 8-9 million a year could land you a really good replacement as this market is flooded with pass rushers. Iupati and Incognito sure up the guard position and taking a Tight End in round 2 patches another hole on offense. Keeping Spike or bringing in Harris keeps the front 7 very physical and stout against the run. Locker or Sanchez also brings a veteran option to the QB situation. Build depth with the rest of the draft and hopefully that's enough to get the team into the playoffs.
  21. Great Movie quote On the prospects of Manning going to Buffalo I don't see it. First off Manning is going to command 15+ million a year which would destroy our chances to keep Hughes or replace him with a quality pass rusher. It would also limit our ability to upgrade our O-line even though we got a decent guard in Incognito already in the fold. Overall I just don't see Peyton wanting to come to a team with a poor O-line and a limited amount of offensive options and draft choices. I would love for Manning to come here but the amount of money it would take wouldn't be worth it as we wouldn't be able to put the proper team around him unless he took a pay cut which he isn't going to do. I do see Denver restructuring his deal to try and keep more weapons around him.
  22. No franchise QB gets traded its a situation that is very rare. The type of QB's that get traded are either backups (Which have mixed success rates) or reclamation projects. Foles would be interesting if the Eagles were looking to get picks for a trade up. But overall I don't think the Bills will go trade market.
  23. The Bills would be better off signing Sanchez...
  24. I don't think this team should go running back in rounds 2 or 3. There are much more pressing needs than RB. I am fine with Brown and Dixon as the speed and power back with Freddie being the receiver and third down back. Bring in a free agent or 5th round back as depth. I don't see the need to spend one of the two best draft assets the team has on that position.
  25. A lot of players seemed to regress on the offensive line the past couple of years. Wood, Urbik, and Glen all fairly young players regressed and the rookies brought in this past season didn't really develop even Henderson who came on strong seemed to mostly flat line as the season went on. Overall if Marrone is selling himself as an o-line guru he better not list the Bills on his resume. I am hoping Cyrus gets to compete with Incognito for that RG position or Henderson for that RT spot the guy was more of a project than anticipated but the guy has a lot of the physical traits.
