  1. Depending on what the Jets do in the draft I think they could be a .500 or better team. Marshall and Carpenter on offense are solid additions, The trio of corners they added patched their biggest weakness and their front 7 is still very good. If they hit on their two high draft picks I could see the Jets being a serviceable team. I am not sold on the Fins however. Suh is a sick addition but they had to trade away key players and cut a lot of their depth to fit him in. Still, Cameron, and possibly retaining Clay aren't my idea of killer additions to the offense esp with Wallace and Hartline gone. The Fins could still add via the draft but I just don't see them being much better or worse than they were last season. Right now I look at the division Pats* 11-5 Bills 10-6 Fins 9-7 Jets 8-8 Tough division but not the NFC West of last year either.
  2. The cap really isn't much of an issue if the team wants to make a significant play for a guard and a tight end at significant money each. Not only is there existing room even after the Harvin deal but there is plenty of fat on the roster that could be cut (Urbik, C.Williams ect).
  3. Also the Bills have enough flexability cap wise to go out and still make moves and there is still plenty of talent to be had along with a second round pick that could easily produce a high impact player.
  4. InCognito was a move to improve the guard situation. But I agree they do need to make a move to further upgrade the O-line and get a tight end. Only good news is that the team seems to be aware of this. They have reportedly been in on a lot of the top linemen but just haven't connected. As we all know they have been and still are in on Clay. Good news is the team seems to be active and aware of the situation, also there are still good options out there on the market. Should also be able to get a good guard in round two if needed.
  5. I think EJ will turn it around if the team can get a good O-line together.
  6. I just want some resolution to this thing. Get Clay or move on and go after other targets.
  7. Great fit, limited role in a dome with a passing offense that will command attention. Expect him to put up uber Sproles like numbers.
  8. Move on still some good players out on the market. Jermaine Gresham comes to mind. Harvin does add a good dimension to the offense if healthy. Still need a TE and a guard.
  9. Like any person working a square job its always easier to stay with what you know. Hughes I assumed had a place in the Buffalo area, knew the area, knew the facilities, knew the staff at the facilities, knew where the good places to eat where, knew the commute, and knew his teammates. People are creatures of habit they like what they know. So when the Bills (Who also have a good on field situation for him) gave him a good offer he wanted he just liked to keep playing in a familiar situation. I think money is important but I think players are just willing to work out a good deal with the teams they know as opposed to just taking the most money to any situation.
  10. If Harvin wants anything more than a 1 year prove it deal for 1.5-2 million he can find another team. Getting Clay locked up and trying to secure a guard are much more pressing needs. Adding a often injured but possibly dynamic gadget player isn't something I would put significant money towards.
  11. Because all it takes is one team desperate enough to put forward a huge offer sheet for that player to !@#$ your plans up. Imagine Dez Bryant getting a 15+ million dollar offer from the Redskins and the Cowboys having to match or else get nothing.
  12. Not sure if the Bills could fit a 20 million dollar cap hit. Even if the Bills gave up our 2nd this year, 1st and 3rd next year, and 1st the year after the Bills would have to make significant cuts across the roster to take on that salary.
  13. Maybe the Browns? Maybe they offered pick 19? This also could be non-sense coming from Chip to justify his trade.
  14. Older player (Will be 34 when the season ends) but is on a very reasonable contract and came into the league at 24 and didn't play much 3 out of his first 4 years in the league.
  15. I think plan B is to draft a guard in round 2. Seems like a lot of the better guards might fall to the mid second. I think they are more focused on getting Clay in the fold than upgrading O-line.
  16. I don't think Grubs would have been worth it but its just that without another option at guard it makes the second round pick more and more penciled in for a guard. I was hoping that the team could sign a guard and Clay to deals to that we are much more flexible in what we can do in the draft as opposed to drafting out of need.
  17. Its 48 hours into free agency the team is very active on Charles Clay and Percy Harvin. Still plenty of good players out there to be had. If the Bills sign Clay and grab a guard in round 2 that plays at a good level I think its pretty clear that the offense will have been upgraded. Let alone adding in Harvin and other players possibly.
  18. I would have preferred a third string backup with more starting experience but its a third string QB. Its not exactly a lot to choose from.
  19. I wish this Clay situation would just resolve its self. Either Clay signs the offer sheet and we move on or he signs one with Cleveland and we move on. Still plenty of players left on the market wish they could know if they have or don't have Clay so they could aggressively go after what's left.
  20. Currently in the league I would Say Alex Smith is the line. Smith is the standard middle QB. Probably the 15th to 16th best QB in the league. If you have a QB that's better than him you have a pretty good one. If you have one that's worse you better hope its a young QB who could develop. In the past I would say Chad Pennington after his first injury was the classic example.
  21. Next season the team does have to extend Dareus. So you have to take that into consideration. But I agree that this year should be the focus. There is plenty of fat on this roster that could be cut or restructured plus the cap is going to go up 10 million. I really wouldn't worry too much about next season or paying Dareus.
  22. The special Teams unit improved a lot last year and I think he had a lot to do with it. Another one of those signings that good teams do. In the past the team would have let these types of players go and let smaller positions like kicker and full back be filled with less than average players.
  23. Million dollar talent ten cent head. Just not worth it, sad since it wasn't injuries or lack of talent that derailed his career. The dude simply beat himself. Still young enough to try and make something good out of his career.
  24. I don't hate the Sammy trade now that I see the pick we gave up was only the 19th overall. Its basically pick 9 and 19 to go up to 4 with a 4th thrown in. But it was a risk a calculated risk but a risk. It seems to have paid off. Although I can't give the front office credit in knowing this would be a weak draft class when they made the trade. Almost impossible to project that in a football draft class.
  25. Spikes would be a really good player to retain if the price is right and he accepts his role. The run defense and physicality are a good dimension to bring.
