Once Cooper gets going he's gonna be that true breaker route runner. I do agree there isn't that true elite speed burner out there just yet. I am hoping that Samuel can get his toe healthy and be that guy that can add some pop of speed to the offense. Samuel ran a 4.31 and while he's never been more than an average ypc player in the NFL he's also never been utilized consistently from the boundary or in a more "gadget" situation. I think as the Bills offense gets more and more film on it a good way to add wrinkles to the offense to stay ahead of coordinators adjustments is to get Samuel into a role where he's a "supped up" gadget player. With Cooper/Coleman/Shakir as the top 3 WR there is a really good chance to have Samuel and Knox put in more unique situations. The team goes 4 wide Samuel can do things like jet sweeps, reverses, and deep shots down the field. Knox could be used more like a Full Back and out the backfield more. Lots of room for creativity with those two players in more complementary roles.

Dionate went to the Ravens, Not sure Ridley's contract is tradable he signed a 4 year massive deal. Mike Williams is on a much smaller deal. Only hang-up with Williams is that his deal has a lot of void years tacked onto it. He's got a 5.8 million dollar void year dead cap next year and then 3 smaller dead years of 800k afterwards. Not sure how void years work on a contract. But the Jets after the Devante trade have a glut at receiver and aren't using Williams anyway so if they can get a late round pick might as well take it.

He was playing well for the Texans, he was an elite WR2 with Collins operating in the boundary it was allowing Diggs to operate all over the field and make good plays for them. Without Diggs they are missing some serious pop from their offense. The Texans also have 4 less WR's on the trade market so that's also going to be an issue for them. That being said the trade market is still open so they at least have the option to explore a move.

Diontae Johnson to the Ravens (now claimed by Houston)
billsfan89 replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
Nice move for the Ravens got him dirt cheap too. Someone that could add some pop to an offense that needs better WR play. Lots of contending teams (and the Jets for some reason) making big WR moves. Texans with the Diggs injury also going to be in the market for a WR. -
Injuries are the worst part of football. While it didn't end pretty with Diggs he had an amazing run here. Sad to see that he may have run out his prime with this injury at age 31 (soon to be 31 anyway). He was having a solid year too. He was on pace for close to 100 catches and over 1k yards in an offense with a lot of mouths to feed. Sad to see it happen to him no matter how badly it ended here he doesn't deserve to have that type of injury. Texans will likely be another team shopping for a WR at the deadline. With Dionte Johnson off the market along with Devante, Cooper, and Hopkins where could the Texans go to get another WR to pair up with Collins (when he gets back from his injury) and Dell? Maybe call up the Jets for Mike Williams? It's also the risk of any trade you make. Any player can get hurt. It also wasn't like Diggs was constantly hurt. He was fairly healthy throughout most of his career.

Khalil Mack trade - what would it take?
billsfan89 replied to MiracleAtRich1393's topic in The Stadium Wall
Chargers are for sure going to push the gas to try to make the playoffs. I think he's looking to set a tone with his culture by making the playoffs year one. The Chargers are taking 55 million in dead cap this season which is 7th highest in the league so they will have a chance to really rebuild quickly after this season. -
The Bills have missed some of their better D-line players. Von has been suspended the past 4 games, Ed Oliver has missed 2 games, and there's been a few others that have missed some time. I think if this team is healthy it has a quality pass rush.
-
When it comes to the secondary I trust McD, if he feels like Demar can execute the system I think he will do just fine.
-
Von getting a 4 week rest early on in the season might actually help him. He's older and still coming off a serious injury less than 2 years ago. He got to ramp up and gain his confidence back in the first 4 games. Weeks 1-4 Von while maybe not 100% back to his 2022 form looked about 90% there. Now's he had a chance to stay fresh and rested and he's gonna get 3 games before another bye week. Seems like a great schedule for an older player.

Reid always made QB's look better than what they were. McNabb was an MVP candidate top 5 QB in the league for years under Reid. Vick was the best version of himself that one year under Reid when he was healthy and still at or near his prime athletically. Alex Smith also put in his best seasons under Reid as well. Mahomes is a generational talent and he's been able to reach his max level of success under Reid whose always gotten the most out of QB's.

Week 8 - Bills @ Seahawks - post game thread
billsfan89 replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
I feel like Chan in 2011 with Fitz had a solid screen game for 5-7 weeks. I think Chan knew that he had to work around Fitz's limitations and take advantage of Stevie and Fred Jax strengths. Haven't seen this team develop a good screen game since until now. I think if this team can get Samuel healthy that could also be a weapon in the screen game. -
Defense being banged up makes it very impressive. But what is making it more impressive to me is that the defense has made some clutch plays. Week 1 the defense shut the door on the Cardinals. Cards had the ball down 6 just under 2 minutes with 2 or 3 timeouts (I don't remember but they had at least 2 timeouts) and several times last season this team (first Pats game comes to mind) would let up a TD in that circumstance. But week 1 the defense forced a turnover on downs to close out the game. The only reason this team had a chance against the Texans was due to the defense forcing two 4th quarter turnovers. Against the Jets the Bills defense came up with that huge Taron INT to put the offense in position to ice the game. That's three games where the defense came up clutch which was not happening a lot last season.

I agree, I was just joking because with the new CBA the 5th year option is pretty worthless for any position besides QB. The options are listed below they aren't much better than the franchise tag. Multiple Pro Bowls: $21.5 million One Pro Bowl: $15.5 million Playtime Criteria (without Pro Bowls): $14.3 million Basic (no Pro Bowls or playtime milestones): $13.1 million

My only regret is trading down from 32 to 33 to take him, gonna need that 5th year option haha.

Keon Coleman 5th In Rookie Receiving Yards
billsfan89 replied to iwishitwerecolder's topic in The Stadium Wall
Keon has been great having a better impact than I hoped for or expected (and I expected him to have a decent impact). I knew he was going to be a capable NFL player when they showed his draft day visit with McBeane and he talked about how at Michigan State he went and learned what the offensive linemen were doing so that he can understand how much time he had. I also liked Beane saying he was happy Coleman ran a "slow" 40 time saying it will help to get him. -
Week 8, Bills v. Seahawks, GAME BALLS!
billsfan89 replied to Freddie's Dead's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not many "bad" games when you win 31-10 and it isn't even that close you tend to look good. Bills go to 6-2 and have a commanding 3.5 game division lead. I didn't see any injuries right that is huge. I love that they didn't even need Amari to have a big game and they still had a big game. Only negative is Josh had a pick but he's on pace to only have 2 on the season and still had 2 TD's. -
Week 8 - Bills @ Seahawks - 2nd half game thread
billsfan89 replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
I would put in Bishop on defense. Bills assuming there isn't an onsides kick recovery are gonna grind the clock out on offense and likely put this game into blatant garbage time gotta give the young players some snaps. -
1 seed is going to be very difficult given that the Bills are 1.5 games back of KC and don't have the tie breaker over the Texans or Ravens. But if the Bills can take care of the games they are "supposed to win" (both Pats games, home against the Jets/Fins, and Rams) and then you win 3 of the 5 other games (KC, 49ers, Detroit, Colts, and Seahawks) that's gonna put the Bills 13-4 which should put the Bills "in play" for the 1 seed. If there's an unexpected loss in the other 5 games the Bills go 12-5 which puts the 1 seed as an outside chance (if they beat KC). Hard to look too far ahead but I think these next 3 games are going to be massive for the Bills chances at the 1 seed. If they win these next 3 that's gonna put them in a good spot to have a chance at 13-4. Just beat the Seahawks and keep building the division lead because one or two bad losses is all it takes to change the outlook of a season.

10/20/24 Game 7 GAMEDAY Bills vs Titans post game thread
billsfan89 replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Bills needed to "get fat" on the Titans and they did just that in very commanding fashion. Defense started a bit shaky but 10 points in a half is not that bad all things considered but then in the second half the Bills defense as they do against most mediocre to bad QB's the defense shut the door and made very big plays (that 4th down stop on Pollard was the pivot point of the game) in the second half. The offense started out a bit flat but they got going in a big way. The Titans for all their flaws have an average at worst defense in the league and the Bills offense had a solid bounce back effort. The team also showcased what Cooper could bring to this team. Keon, Shakir, and Kincaid seemed to have more room to operate with the presence of Cooper and I think once Samuel gets going he's going to be a hyped up gadget player with some slot WR pop. The offensive line looked good for the most part against a fairly good Titans D-line while Josh once again made some plays but didn't have to be "Superman" consistently. It is a long season, you gotta get the wins you are supposed to win and that's a good thing. -
I think the Bills best most realistic move cap wise after the Amri Cooper deal is to get a vet kicker. Bass is going to cost this team a game and it is better this team finds a more proven option at kicker.
-
I would love to see the Bills trade for the Panthers kicker, a good vet kicker whose on a bad team. I think if the Bills offered a 5th for a 7th the Panthers would strongly consider it.
-
Kicker is a big glaring need but I don't see many teams trading a kicker. I would seriously call up the Panthers and ask about trading a pick for Eddy Pineiro. Outside of that I could see safety being a consideration. But I think McD likes what he has in the secondary. I think the best the Bills can do after meaningfully addressing WR1 is get a kicker, Bass is going to cost this team a game or two if not cost them in the playoffs.

The Watson trade has to be the worst trade in NFL history. The Browns gave up 3 first round picks plus 3 additional picks in rounds 3-4 to get back Watson whose fully guaranteed contract has two more years on it. The Browns at best can get out of Watson's deal in 2026 by having him do a post June 1st release which would still leave his dead cap hit at 76 million while pushing 26.9 of dead cap into 2027.

"Everyone eats" should still be the mentality. But now there's a guy out there in Cooper who has the appetite and ability to eat a lot efficiently. The acquisition of a boundary WR who can consistently break out against single man coverage allows the Bills to counter one high safety looks. Then if teams try to go two high to prevent big plays to Cooper and make Josh dink and dunk then the Bills can work the middle of the field brilliantly and run the ball which they are set up to do.
-
A 3rd swapped for a 6th works for me, tossing in a future 7th is not that consequential given that the Bills likely are going to be consistently getting comp picks due to losing players in free agency as that happens to teams that consistently draft well and find players in free agency. Cooper also will possibly count towards a comp pick that could be in the 3-4 round range so the Bills can continue to recoup that capital down the line making the cost even more minimal. The Bills also picked a good year to sacrifice some capital to add a big piece as the Bills have a ton of picks in this up coming draft. They have their own 1st but also two 2nds and two 4th round picks with comp picks incoming including one projected to be an additional 4th rounder. That's in addition to once again having three 6th round picks and adding another comp pick in the 5th round by some projections. This trade really gives the Bills an amazing chance to contend this season and when you have a ton of draft capital using it to make a season truly viable is a great use of draft capital.
