The alignment is the bigger issue.

White, who should have made the tackle, but was also put in a tough spot covering two gaps in that instance.

This is where we disagree. From my perspective, you can have your defense in the ideal alignment, but if you can execute the basics, like tackling, the alignment doesn't matter very much.

Yea but it wasn't the root cause of the play. That was like your backup generator failing after someone forgot to switch the main generator on.

This is where we differ. From my perspective, if you can't perform the basic football fundamentals, there isn't an alignment that will help you succeed.

Correct but as I said straight away in the GDT thread a running back running off tackle should never have the corner be the only man in contain or the first contact. There was clearly an alignment mistake.

Bernard got better at liming them up as the game went on. It is where no pre-season hurts him.

Alignment mistake or not, what should never happen or not, the play would have been a non-event had White not whiffed on making the tackle. DB's tackle RB's at every level of football, including the NFL.

  3. I would agree with Josh that he lost the game for the Bills with his poor decisions. However, that being said, I don't think we will face a better defense than the Jets. You have to give Joe Douglas credit, he's built a defensive roster that might be the best in the league. I'm sure I'll get some arguments from 49ers fans.

  4. Lately it's been reported that the Bills were close to obtaining Zack Ertz from Philadelphia. That didn't happen. That said, perhaps it's time to try for Ertz again. With the Bills planning to play more 12 formation, a well stocked TE room might work well for the long season.

Reinstate? We released him. He’s been free to sign wherever he can. Also we have a very good punter signed for the next three seasons.

I can understand a difference of moral opinion on what is the right thing for the Bills to do regarding Matt. However, not bringing in competition because an incumbent player has a contract flies in the face of roster improvement and the much-touted Bills philosophy of competition and earning a roster spot.

  6. If I recall correctly, at the press conference for the release of Matt Araiza, McDermott said it was best for Matt to go home and clear his name. Matt, at the time, was proclaiming his innocence. Matt has gone home and has done exactly what McDermott suggested. We now know that Matt was falsely accused, and has been fully exonerated. Perhaps it's the right thing to do to bring Matt back and allow him to complete for the punter position.

  7.  Isaiah Simmons has played the majority of his snaps at OLB and CB, but has played 508 snaps at MLB for the Cards. I would assume that's a sufficient sample size of plays at MLB for a reasonable evaluation. The Cardinals have declined his 5th-year option. Simmons' salary for next season is an affordable 1.4 mil with a cap hit of 6.5 mil. Should his 508 snaps at MLB show well, perhaps a trade for Simmons would be the Bill's answer at MLB for next season.?

  8. I think this season, the race for the AFC East Division will be the most competitive we have seen in this division in decades. Perhaps it will come down to the winner being the team that stays the healthiest at critical times and/or throughout the season. Unfortunately, the downside to having such a competitive race, is the likelihood that the only team to make the playoffs from the AFC East will be the Division winner.

If all you think is buffalo just "Shuffled the deck" ? that's crazy man. We likely have a day 1 starter that locks up LG/RG and enough competition to fix the other guard position... Our guards were at times HORRIBLE... HUGE upgrades at guard. we got a big body TE/Slot man with significant ceiling and you think all we did was reshuffle decks like NE did?

    wow

Read the first sentence again. If there is a huge upgrade in the guard position, it will come from the draft. Also coming from the draft is our Big Boby TE/ Slot.
