There is no way that Tremaine is going to sign a 5 year deal for 50 million. He is guaranteed to make 12.7 this year which is 27% more than 10 million for this year. There is no reason for him not to bet on himself. He would take the 12.7 million this year and believe that he can get a better contract next year (better than 5 years for 50 million).

It is nice that they are giving recognition for a good draft, but if they are saying that Tyler Bass is the 14th biggest reach in the draft then their methodology is flawed. They should have the picks weighted according to their draft position. Missing on Aaron Maybin (1st round) was far more costly than missing on Cary Harris (6th round). At 11 in the first round the Bills had the opportunity to pick Clay Matthews, Malcolm Jenkins or even LeSean McCoy. In the sixth round you had the opportunity to get Julian Edelman and not a whole lot more. Or in 2002 Mike Williams was drafted 4th overall. The Bills had the opportunity to draft Ed Reed, Dwight Freeney or even Bryant McKinnie (who most people considered the best tackle that year). The biggest reaches should be weighted on how valuable the draft pick was in the first place. No sixth round pick, no matter how bad it was should be the 14th biggest reach. The draft pick is just not that valuable.

I am not afraid of Belichick the drafter and he has no magic wand to make injured players healthy again. Belichick's record as far as drafting goes is not that great. Belichick is a great coach though and will make some mediocre QB look good (ex. Matt Cassell). I think Jake Fromm is more Belichick's style.

When you trade off next year's draft pick, you trade it at a discount. I would not have felt as badly about the Watkins trade, if it had been the first and second of that same year. A future draft pick gets discounted about one round. Some rumors said Cleveland wanted the Bills 1st and 2nd round of that year and the Bills said no. With the 2nd round pick that year the Bills drafted Cyrus Kouandjio. If trading for Diggs doesn't work out, it will not mean that Beane is regarded in the same way as Whaley because Beane and McDermott got the Bills to the playoffs. There is no comparison between Beane and Whaley. Looking at the players they have drafted also means there is no comparison.

At least McDermott is wise to them. He kicked the Patriots assistants off the field when the Bills were doing their pregame activities. A year or even multi-year ban on Bellicheck might be comparable to some of the punishments for PEDs for players.

It wouldn't make sense for the Bills or the Colts. A backup QB is pretty valuable, so the Bills would have to go out and get one after trading Barkley. Barkley seems like a nice fit for the Bills. From the Colts perspective, Barkley doing well in the preseason is hardly a predictor of franchise QB type success. There will be some interesting names out there after the cuts, if they want to take a chance on someone. They probably would be best off struggling through this season and drafting someone next year.

This is why you don't have your mother as your agent. A professional agent would have made sure you prepared for the Wonderlic test. A professional agent would have talked to you about your off-season preparation and would be working with you on the way you handled interviews and what you say publicly. I can't help but wonder if some of these problems would be better dealt with if he had a professional agent.

I saw Mel on a preview of the NFL (he was a part of a panel with Dan Graziano, Damien Woody and Todd McShay). He said he watched every down of Josh Allen last year with the Bills and he is really high on Josh and the Bills in general. Like any draft analyst he is not always right, but still I welcome his support. Cowherd likes making controversial statements and sometimes he is insightful. I think he likes poking his finger in someone's eye.

Will they have to pick up a practice squad QB to run the scout team? I can see Logan Thomas being the emergency QB (if he has made the roster), but I would think they would need someone else for the scout team.

During that drill JP Losman was wearing a red jersey which meant that no one was supposed to touch him. I don't think Vincent intended to hurt him, but in that drill he shouldn't have even touched him. Of course everyone denied that it was intentional, but at the time there were those who said Losman was acting pretty cocky. Do you remember JP Losman the Bills first round QB draft pick years ago? From what I remember some of the veterans took offence to the way he carried himself. Troy Vincent who was a union rep gave him a hard hit in practice and broke his arm. JP lost his rookie season to the injury.

Our own list includes: Kelvin Benjamin, Kyle Williams, Lorenzo Alexander, Vontae Davis, Ryan Groy, Jordan Mills and Colton Schmidt. If Davis and Benjamin have big years, they would command big contracts, but otherwise the list looks manageable for the Bills to resign. With lots of cap room I think the Bills would probably try to keep Davis and Benjamin if they play well.

I know I oftentimes get too invested in who I think the Bills should choose, but previous front offices at One Bills Drive were pretty bad in their choices. They had all that information and they still drafted a Shaq Lawson who had to have shoulder surgery, an injury prone Reggie Ragland and a raw QB who could not take hard coaching. If you gave them the insider knowledge that is available to front offices then a reasonably intelligent panel of fans could have drafted better than our previous front office. The coaching staff did well last year with what they had, so I am a lot more confident in this front office.

I have just wondered if they might think of using Jerry Hughes in a package to move up to #2 with the Giants or if they might package him with #12 to move up to #7 in a trade with Tampa Bay. I'm not saying I want them to, but with them signing Murphy, I have wondered if it is possible.

It is really interesting to see the success rates although I know most of us might quibble here or there with who was a hit and who was a miss. I find it very interesting that the success rate after you get out of the first five picks declines relatively slowly until the fourth round. I think you made a major oversight in keeping Drew Brees out of the data. He was a second round pick who has been very successful. I also would consider David Garrard a success although I realize that he is more debatable.

Walter Football has moved Clayton Thorson from Northwestern up to their 5th ranked QB. The rankings are likely to change a lot by next year's draft. I think there will be a quality QB when the Bills have their first pick.

My speculation: Arizona trying to persuade Tyrod Taylor to come and be a back up to an injury prone Carson Palmer. The Bills willing to move on to Peterman since he is a better fit with more potential in WCO.

Since they traded off there top receiver for a 2nd round pick and their top cornerback for a 3rd round pick, I think they will cut enough of their signed free agents to possibly get a third round pick and a fourth round pick. Most of those free agents are not overly impressive and you probably can find a replacement when the teams cut down to 53 that will be pretty close in terms of talent. I suspect the Bills will be active when teams cut down to 53.

Jason La Canfora first broke the story that Rex was going to be fired and Tyrod benched. Bills loyalists mocked him then, but he was more or less right even though the owner had said recently that there were no plans to fire anyone. McDermott's statements were vanilla. I did not expect him to say, "Yeah, Doug doesn't know this yet, but he is going to get fired right after the draft and I am going to get one of my buddies in here to take over the personnel department." If McDermott had said, "I am the spokesman for the team, but behind the scenes nothing has changed. I have input in the roster, but Doug still has final say," then that would have been more than vanilla. As it was his remarks were vanilla. They are just what I would expect him to say if there were problems or he could be saying it and there really are no problems. Time will tell, but for now his comments are unconvincing either way.

At one time in the preseason I thought the Bills might be shopping CJ. When I heard that CJ wanted to talk to Byrd I thought, oh no, here we go again. But Bryce Brown seems stuck as a fourth stringer and CJ did not sign up with Byrd's agent, so at this point I think CJ will be staying here at least for the rest of the season. No team is in a win now mode more than the Bills. Good chance the HC's job depends on it. They didn't get much for Lynch and it is doubtful they would get much for CJ. They won't get better in the short term by trading CJ, so I can't see them trading him. I hope that the Pegulas will bring a different attitude towards resigning free agents and so I wouldn't consider past free agent situations a good indicator.

EJ simply does not seem ready and may never be ready. The Bills coaches have not messed him up because these are the same concerns that made scouts think he was a raw prospect. Having said that I have lost all confidence in the Bills HC and OC. I already was critical of them overestimating what they had in Tuel and Lewis, but then to play Palmer most of the game when he had to barely know the playbook was foolish. In the short term the only back up that is going to know the playbook and have even a reasonable chance to do well is Jeff Tuel. Marrone just seems to continue to badly mishandle this QB situation.

I think the GM and HC will be gone if they don't make the playoffs. They sealed their fate when they traded off next year's first round draft choice, but other than QB this is a pretty good team and even national analysts will say that.

I am wondering if any QB can succeed right now. Playing Palmer the whole game with only a few practices isn't really fair. Playing Dennis Dixon last week when he seemed to have so little practice was bizarre. Jeff Tuel should have seen time tonight because he at leasts knows the playbook. Its like the Bills want Palmer to look bad, to prove that they should only have EJ and Tuel. This is strange.
