Justin Hunter and Kevin Minter
GOBILLS!!!!! replied to GOBILLS!!!!!'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
your welcome ! just some thoughts considering Justin Hunter had a 1st round grade and extreme talent and that Minter went a pick before we picked Alonso. Robert Woods will be solid #2 next to Stevie and hopefully Kiko will have a chance to start in the near future -
I truthfully believe these were the players targeted in the 2nd by Buffalo but we ended up with two pretty solid players in Robert Woods and Kiko Alonso

What are the chances that one of Cordarrelle Patterson, DeAndre Hopkins or Justin Hunter will be available at 41 if the Bills end up taking a QB in round 1?

If youve looked at recent trends with Buddy Nix, you know that he believes that he can find solid O-Line play with low round draft picks and waiver wire additons. The highest offensive lineman drafted in the Buddy Nix era was in the second round for Cordy Glenn last year, and that is only because hey had a first round grade on the guy. (Eric Wood was drafted the year before Nix had any draft input). Now lets look at the rest of the starting line: LG is up in the air with Levitre being gone but obviously he had no priority in signing the guy to big money if he believes he can fill the void easily. Wood, the center, was drafted at the end of the first round before Buddy was here so thats a moot point. RG is Kraig Urbik who was a 3rd round pick that was claimed off of waivers from Pittsburgh and has been pretty solid, Hairston was a 4th round pick and Pears was a FA fringe starter before he came here. There is NO chance Nix takes Warmack or Cooper with the 8th pick

Im wondering why when people talk about QB arm strength that that would be a reason for not taking a prospect - in this case Barkley... Can't the player just do upper body and arm workouts to increase the strength in their arm and with ball velocity? Now obviously ball accuracy is something that cannot be changed

There are only 3 good options for QB this year..

My editor is screwing up and not allowing me to indent but hopefully this is better -
I believe that the Bills will absolutely be drafting a QB within the first 2 rounds this year only because they don't have any other choice. Going into the season with only TJ and Corp isn't even an option and it looks like that finding a QB is the only thing that Nix is worried about at this point because free agency isn't even on his mind. Now since this season hinges on this fact, well look at the only three options the bills have that would most likely happen and possibly be good for this team going forward. I believe that if Geno Smith is there at 8, which is unlikely at this point, he needs the be the automatic pick. He has top ten arm talent and would be able to turn the franchise around. Now since Arizona is ahead of us, and will almost undoubtedly be taking a quarterback regardless this year, they will be selecting Geno if he makes it that far. If that's the case then the only other option for a QB we have at 8 would have to be Matt Barkley. I doubt that the bIlls can trade up in the draft due to fact that we only have 6 draft picks which all need to be put into good use. I know that many analysts view Barkley as being a 3rd round pick, which may be warranted due to his average arm strength and decline in production, but this kid can make all of the throws and he's deadly accurate. I wouldn't fault buddy for making this pick because it would at least give the fanbase some sense of hope for finding the next franchise guy that can lead this team. There is a very good chance that both of these guys won't be available when the Bills pick at 8 since Geno could easily be picked by Oakland, Philly, or Cleveland which will then lead to Barkley being drafted by Arizona. I believe that the Cardinals like Barkley and will ultimately be taking him if Geno gets taken early. If this is the case then I would hope that buddy is smart enough to go BPA which could be Warmack ,Jones, Patterson, etc. because we need multiple starters this draft and no other QB is worth a top ten pick. The third option for QB that I believe will happen if both of those QBs are drafted before 8 would be for the Bills to trade up to the top of the second round or even the bottom of the first to take Nassib. I honestly don't want this to become a Nassib thread but I think this is the only other option that will work for this franchise for the immediate future. If you watch the tape on Nassib he looks identical to Fitz in the sense that he has a very quick release and that he knws where he wants to go with the football. We can all agree that Fitz did this well and that if he could have made all of the throws that he would possibly have been a pretty good QB. The main difference between Fitz and Nassib is that Nassib has way better arm strength and downfield accuracy than Fitz has which is what Fitzs weaknesses were. Now I didn't say that he has elite arm strength or accuracy but he has a pretty decent arm. He has all of the tools to be a good QB and having his old coaches will only benefit him. These 3 options are the only options the Bills have to make me a believer that this team can turn things around soon. I believe that Nassib wont be there at 41 and any of the other prospects like Wilson, Glennon, Manuel, Bray, etc. wouldn't get us over the hump.

Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse

So I'm reading on these boards that a lot of people don't like nassib because he's questionable and jittery in the pocket. Well I believe that he has really good pocket awareness and has the ability to move throughout the pocket pretty well. He has good footwork, he plants and steps into his throws, and he can maneuver in the pocket while keeping his eyes downfield. The only thing he does do is he shakes the ball a lot right before he throws which looks awkward at times but if I'm not mistaken Peyton manning also is jittery in the pocket as well. We all know how he turned out. But honestly nassib has a bullet of a pass, a really quick release and can make just about every throw needed to be a professional in this league. He's the pick in the second round or a trade up into the first round, if hes there then bank on it -
Why Gailey will be productive
GOBILLS!!!!! replied to GOBILLS!!!!!'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with your posts regarding a 13-26 record but honestly how many games have we lost due to poor defense? Most. The issue lies in the defensive coordinater and scheme and hopefully once wanna is gone, a new guy can come in a produce and we can for once become a balanced team. It always seems that either the offense or defense is productive and not both together. Or of course both suck -
Now that we know that Gailey will be here for at least one more year, let's look at the positives. The guy has definitely improved this offense with the caliber of players that he's had to work with. He has a ton of 7th round picks and undrafted guys at his disposal and is still able to move the ball and be effective in the redzone. Do you remember how bad fitz was before he got here? Well he's still just as bad but gailey is able to hide a bunch of his flaws with the scheme that he runs. Now with a franchise quarterback that nix is promising and a new more innovative defensive coordinater, this team can be something special.

Im gonna go out on a limb here and say that I hope buddy nix doesn't get fired at the end of this year because he has truly upgraded the talent level of this team, and also that he lets gailey coach here for at least one more season. Now I understand the backlash I may get but I am indeed aware that the DC would have to be changed at the very least, but my reason is this; Gailey has been somewhat productive with the offense this year having had the 6th most touchdowns in the league, as of last week, but the real issue is obviously Fitz. Look at what gailey has been able to do with the most mediocre set of quarterbacks he has been with at the NFL level and has made them produce. Kordell Stewart, thigpen and Ryan picksofmagic! The same guy who couldn't unseat Trent edwards 2 seasons in a row. Now how I would love for it to play out would be keeping chan as HC at least one more year and drafting a 1st round quarterback for him to groom. He would be a good coach of technique to allow a young quarterback to thrive is his offense. I mean seriously how much worse can it get? Fitz couldn't even hit a nail with a hammer. *Gailey

When you look at the outcome of last week where our pass defense was horrendous and our run defense was somewhat stout it may be better than you think. Luckily for us most of the quarterbacks we play this year are either inexperienced rookies or qbs that are just plain average. Not only that but the running backs we face are the complete opposite where we play Charles, T Rich, Ridley, frank gore, Chris Johnson, Reggie bush, beanie wells, steven Jackson, beast mode etc. This alone will help our defense and if fitz can just minimize his boneheaded mistakes and just manage the game, then we may fare pretty well this season since our strength of schedule is pretty weak.
