NYS vote on Gay 'Marriage' tonight
Delete This Account replied to The Poojer's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
seriously, this entire post is an example of why nothing gets done. it nitpicks and name-calls, further polarizing any attempt at discussion with its accusatory us-versus-them mentality that's foolhardy, blowhardy and ruinous. it's really too bad. and i know, you'll come back with the .. "but, but, but ..." but i don't want to hear it. i'm tired of the demagogary when it comes to political issues. it's so freaking boring. so spare me. jw -
Free Agency Firestorm
Delete This Account replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
it will be an interesting -- fast and furious -- free agency period, with most of the free agents (top-ranked and middle-ranked and little-ranked) signed extremely quickly, given that teams will ahve to move quickly in gearing up for start of training camps. i'm sure all teams already have a strategy in place as to how they'll approach free agency. i don't foresee the Bills being big players in free agency. it'll be more of the same of last year, where they'll attempt to plug holes with compartively modest offers -- see Dwan Edwards, Andra Davis, Torbor. there's a lot of interest on both sides to re-sign Posluszny. and Pos is very interested in coming back to Buffalo (note that the AP wrote about this back in March). i do believe that Nix is serious about re-signing Drayton Florence. my question is how competitive they'll be because i would believe he'll get more than a couple of offers. i see the Bills targeting their O-line and DBs, maybe even a tight end, and of course a backup QB (stress backup: as i believe Chan is serious about going with Ryan Fitzpatrick as his starter this season. and that should be the right move, given that Fitzpatrick knows the system, is comfortable with the players. making a qb switch at this point, would be severely detrimental.) jw -

that's why i started my anti-toronto thread, thread where posters have a chance to amuse themselves as opposed to rehashing rehashed information and, as one poster put it, bashing each other on the heads despite no new developments. come, then, join the fun: jw -
thanks to most of you getting the joke. and thanks on the Ehrhoff. it's been a wild and busy week and felt i needed to let off some steam. happy Canada Day/Independence Day long weekend. as it turns out, i'll be driving through Toronto to see some friends. i'll report back if i notice any signs of change in regards to the Bills future in the city. jw

here's the perfect beauty of threads such as these bills-are-moving-maybe-to-toronto-possibly-la-or-taiwan-ralph-is-cheap-ralph-isn't-cheap-can-toronto-support-the-bills threads, and why they frustrate me so. my point is, and i'll type slowly so everyone can keep up: -- every two months and sometimes every two days, a thread such as this pops up. -- every two months and sometimes every two days, when a thread such as this pops up, many of the same people express the exact same thoughts (as if cutting and pasting each thought from the previous eleventeen dozen threads similar to this that have gathered on this board). -- there's rarely anything different. the same people complain that Mr. Wilson is cheap. others chime in that there's a business model. i come in with a post wondering why this thread is necessary because it's essentially repeating the exact same thing that yesterday's thread, and the day before that, and the day before that and the day before that had brought up. -- and yet, the same dag-gurn thread with a different name pops up every two months and sometimes every two days. i have long ago learned not to argue opinions in threads such as these. no one ever, ever, ever changes their minds. Mr.Weo is agin it. so's JohnC. fine. i can wholeheartedly accept that. here's all -- and by all, i mean solely, and by solely, i mean the very, only singular thing i'm suggesting. in order to save time, why not pin one thread and allow everyone to have at it? maybe even ban these cockroaches of a threads to continue pro-creating. there's 80 of them in the last five days (and i'm exagerating, i think, by thismuch). do we need another Toronto thread? really? is 1,872 not enough? do we need 1,873-4-5-6-7 ad infinitum. oh, here's an idea. how about everyone that wants to start a new Toronto thread, simply take a breath, drive to Toronto, come back and upon your return, when you think this board still merits the 1,878th toronto thread, then take a breath and make the drive again. i guess i'm venting in my own way, here, no? jw -

well, then, why don't we pin one thread. slug it "Toronto: the Bills are either doomed or not," and have a "Last Post Wins," type thread in which everyone can endlessly repeat all of their views over and over and over and over again, no? you, respectfully, aren't going to change your stand. others haven't either. it would save time having to go through this every 2 months or so. jw -

once again, this topic brings out a polarized response, with too many unsteady assumptions to address. these threads never work. they always bring out the same answers, no matter how well thought out the original post is. too many people have their minds made up on this and are unwilling to consider another point of view. hell, i don't even know why i'm posting here. jw -

10 Best Albums of the 60's
Delete This Account replied to grammer_police's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Exile on Main Street ranks on my list as well as one of the best albums of all time. it has influenced essentially everything good and pure and dirty in music that has followed it right up to this day. but, it's a 70s album and this is a 60s list. however, Let it Bleed was a wonderful precursor, and featured "Country Honk," which has always had a soft spot in my heart. Sticky Fingers was also a 70s album, which i found to be good, but inconsistent. jw jw -
NYS vote on Gay 'Marriage' tonight

i kissed a girl and i liked it, too. perhaps, you should try it some time. and as Paul Reiser said about two women kissing: "I agree with both of them." vulnerable children, my behind. confused children who have to put up with bigotry and so-called "christian" values are the ones who are left hiding, because they are left to feel ashamed by the likes of social butchers and gate-keepers of what's "acceptable," and who have deemed their homosexual leanings as being "deviant," and "abhorent," and "unnatural," which is so far removed from the truth that it would be laughable, if it weren't so obtuse and sad. hiding behind your so-called value system and referring it to be some kind of "truth" does not make it so. it's pure and utter bigotry. jw -

desensitized to homosexuality? what does that mean? and as if on cue, you follow up with the "i don't care if they're gay ... BUT ..." followed by more hate-mongering jesus. perish the day i become desensitized to blind, obtuse, small-headed bigotry. jw -

10 Best Albums of the 60's

i dunno, you're generally on the right track with Zepplin II and Beach Boys. i'd take The Doors out of the last-place tie, because as we move on in years, they become less and less relevant in my opinion (the Ollie Stone movie just about sealed that: ugh!) the Beatles have to be there as well as the Velvet Underground, only because the NYC scene must be represented. the list requires a balance of music that can still be echoed today (which is why The Doors are essentially out in my book, unless, of course you're a tea party fan ... double-ugh, and they're from my hometown. embarrassing.) but you're right it's tough. "Let it Bleed" and "Folsom" would be on my list, though. jw -

any list of top 60s albums without the Rolling Stones' "Let it Bleed," is bogus. and let's not forget the seminal, ground-breaking and angry: "Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison." j (music snob) w.
