  1. you're saying it "decided" the game. no it didn't. jw
  2. um, the Bills are ranked 27th in the NFL in yards allowed. that puts them in the bottom 5. they're 26th against the run and tied for 24th against the pass. and if you want to put the Cincinnati game in perspective, the 23 points scored came against a Bengals team that ranked in a tie for 24th in points entering the contest. as for what the Pats, Pack and Saints are doing, well, that's one thing. let's look at what the Bills next opponent, the Eagles are doing: they're averaging 434.8 yards a game. ... lots on Bills defense going into this one, no? (unless the refs blow it again.) jw Add: Bills are tied for 16th in points allowed.
  3. i can see it now, a built-in excuse should the Bills miss the playoffs. it all goes back to this one play. how convenient. good teams overcome these. bad teams don't. we'll see what happens, but far too many things went wrong for it to come down to one play. if the Bills were that good, they should've had this game in the bag long before the fourth quarter. if the Bills proved overconfident going into this one, well, they need to rebound. if the Bills can't overcome this one loss, well, there's nothing the refs can do one way or another. bad calls happen. they even out. bad breaks happen, too. and as it's been noted once before in Cincinnati: why so serious? jw that's funny. jw
  4. well, it's been evident your supply is running low. jw (couldn't resist)
  5. why is it the refs are bad only when the Bills lose on this board? i'm sensing a trend. jw well put. we agree again, twice in one year. i'm starting to worry. ... jw
  6. heading out to buy stock in dairy products. lots a spilt milk out there. jw
  7. the Bills managed a season-low 12 first downs. they got into an opponents' territory a season-low three times, after doing that a combined 22 in previous three games. they would've scored 13 points if not for Florence's interception. they punted eight times. their defense has allowed 450 yards in three straight games for only the second time in team history according to STATS LLC. so i see where the officials are ultimately to blame. the call was a curious one, i agree. i don't think it proved anywhere near decisive. good teams rebound from adversity. the Bills overcame their own mistakes in previous two weeks. how anyone can chalk this loss up to the officials really wasn't watching. jw
  8. i hate the fact that the officials allowed the Bengals to generate 450 yards offense. you'd think they'd get in the way of Dalton or Benson in an attempt to stop them. unfair. jw
  9. been a little anxious (true meaning of the word) and quite busy to pick it up. hoping to get it next week. but you're preaching to the choir in regards to Slim (good god, his solo album rocked, as did Tommy's first album with "Bash and Pop.") and i do prefer rock and roll as opposed to the baloney REM and U2 have put out for far too long. they really should be ashamed. jw
  10. if by "there" you mean the drinking place, i'll be "there." got the weekend off. cannot, and i repeat, cannot wait. jw
  11. well, since i'm here. jw
  12. 10 years too late? maybe 12. jw
  13. Mr. Bennett was on the Daily Show last night and once again showed what a class act he is. he was particularly good in discussing recording with Winehouse, and how she was literally on the rocks at that point, going down the tragic drain of alcoholism (not drugs, at that point, he said). and yet it was Mr. Bennett's perspective on music that helped inspire Winehouse, when he asked how much she was influenced by Dinah Washington. Winehouse lit up. interesting story. jw
  14. why don't you agree with Chan? jw
  15. lucky you in escaping a third world nation. jw
  16. folks, just for future reference. the initial story is goes out to all of our members, and particularly for our broadcast subrscribers. they're able to use these short "bursts" for their purposes. we try to get them out as soon as possible. that means there's usually a lag between the NewsNow and the fuller version moves. i do question the accusation that i would take something like "annoyed" out of context. jw
  17. Full story is now out there, including full quote jw
  18. Dang it. Condolences, Lori, Lee and all. jw
  19. when have i eviscerated Mr. Wilson. certainly there's been criticism in the local media in regards to Mr. WIlson's ownership. well, he is the owner, and he'll even acknowledge the last decade of woes can be put on him. and yet, i think there's far more "Ralph is Cheap" talk here on this board than anywhere else that i have read. and much of the comments here are far more irresponsible. i don't know why Florio and King say they see improvement. perhaps they see improvement, though i must say i've only run into Florio once, and that was at the Hall of Fame game. that doesn't mean they're right or wrong. but suddenly their opinion matters more and or less than "the local media?" uhh, i don't get it. it's pretty convenient to blame, in one general brush, "the local media" when their opinion -- yes, it must be collective, we all met in July and exchanged notes -- doesn't match yours. and it's easy to hail others when their opinions are in line. good for you. and yet, this thread is launched after one -- one -- game. this would be a far better discussion if we were at week 8 or 9, or 17 perhaps. jw that's ok, it's all the media's fault anyway. 16-0, you know. so get in line. jw
  20. umm, are you asking me to judge this team based on one game? i certainly hope not. as for your question, what is it that you're attempting to accuse me of, because either way i answer, it's going to be the wrong one as far as you're concerned. you've made up your mind that the Bills are going to go 11-5 or something. good for you. i didn't see it and am still not sure i see that. it's possible. hell, anything's possible. i saw a team that at best could win 7 games. i settled at 5 given the questions at offensive line and receiving, and wondering whether this defense is ready to make the jump from 32nd against the run to say, 20. should i have predicted 16 wins? well, i'd win over a few fans here, but at what stake my credibility. should i have predicted 2? well, i'd be going along with the national norm, but at what stake my credibility. yours is a loaded question, because if i say i base my assessment from watching practice, etc., then you're going to accuse me of being blind. and if i say i base my assessment of following everyone else, i'll be accused of following the crowd. and if i say i simply pull a number out of the air, well, i'm going to be accused of being incompetent. so you figure out which one works best for you, and have it fulfill whatever whiff it is that i've apparently made. jeebers. and where were all these whiff questions over the previous 11 seasons? jw
  21. oh really. the media hired Greg Williams and Dick Jauron, and somehow had the leverage to suggest the team not re-sign Pat Williams and then draft Aaron Maybin, and trade back into the first round to draft J.P. Losman, and fire Turk Schonert and cut Langston Walker two weeks before the start of the season, and to go with a no-huddle approach, and take a flyer on Willis McGahee when there were so many other needs to address and have Bledsoe drop back to pass inside his own 20 against the Steelers in the 2004 season finale, and continue starting Trent Edwards when it became apparent he had plateaued and had begun regressing, and punt from inside New England's 40, have Travis Henry throw a pass from inside the 5 against Miami only to have it intercepted, ask Leodis McKelvin to fumble a kickoff against the Patriots, blow a 10-point lead in the final minute against the Cowboys ... yes, we are incompetent. jw
  22. sure, and for what it's worth, it just so happens that the four quarterbacks you mention here have each won a Super Bowl or two. and i was serious about what I will be writing next week should the Bills beat the Raiders. Buffalo has not at all sufficiently proven it can be a playoff contender until it shows it can beat its division rivals, particularly New England. jw
  23. you're right about QBs, and as Fitz"gerald" (i kid as this is an inside joke) has told me himself, it's on him to prove it. so far so good. he's continuing the trend he started last year. he's now 9-12 with the Bills over a two season and one-game stretch in which Buffalo's other QBs have gone 2-10. maybe, just maybe, he'll do it. nothing against him or the team, i would prefer waiting until after eight games to see where this thing's heading. after all, the media and some fans on this board were also ready to anoint Trent Edwards after his 5-1 start in 2008. this year could be different, but who knows. jw for the record, i got Cincy right. jw
