  1. dunno. am told, Kuechly is on the fringes of the Bills radar. and that's, essentially, what matters. jw
  2. whatever may be the case, i was asked to elaborate and i did. jw
  3. how can anyone relax at this time of year. now, it appears the Bills just might be trading down. what if that's just a ruse and they're really trading up? ... wouldn't that make it a triple-fake with a flip? jw
  4. why do they always go to commercial when the Bills are picking!!! jw
  5. but what if it's a double-fake. maybe the Bills are letting all that stuff out there so that people start thinking like you, discounting Barron and Tennehill, in order to make some people start thinking that the team's really after Reiff, DeCastro, Kuechly or Floyd and then they go after someone else? ... or maybe it's a triple-fake ... jw
  6. no, you're thinking of that country singer Melinda Lambert, who's married to what's his name on the voice: Drake Skelton. jw droll, very droll ... i get it though. jw
  7. part of it had to do with lowering the player's contract value back before the latest cba, when rookie first-round pick contract values were very expensive. if you were confident the player you desired would be available after the team behind you picked, then you could wait a pick or two perhaps and cut millions of dollars off the player's rookie deal. jw
  8. wondering what Joe Mantano might make of this. jw
  9. i didn't write anything for ESPN. there was an ESPN writer who did interview me some weeks ago in regards to the draft. and i did appear on Sport Center this morning in their mock draft, where I reluctantly picked Kirkpatrick because we needed to have our picks locked in a week ago. but as i noted today, i've been hearing more and more that the Bills are focusing their attention more on Barron and Stephon Gilmore. and barring Kalil or Blackmon dropping into their laps, one of those two guys will likely be the pick. and that all is really starting to make sense. Barron is a hard-hitting safety and a bona fide top 10 talent from everything that i've read. and Gilmore might have superior skills -- and a little less off-the-field baggage -- then Kirkpatrick. wouldn't rule out Kuechly, but i think he's on the outside of the Bills board looking in at 10. jw
  10. and yet my post had nothing in it in regards to questioning the hit being legal or not, or making any suggestion regarding whether Berry's allegation was valid or not. or whether Johnson was at fault, or the Chiefs trainers were at fault, or presuming why he was let back on the field. i merely pointed out Berry's value to the Chiefs defense and how the game's complexion and the Chiefs' season changed as a result of his injury. i apologize for calling you "mr. argumentative." it just struck me as odd that the discussion in regards to my post strayed so. jw
  11. and for what it's worth for those with conspiracy theories in regards to why Rogers gave back the preseason game this summer: as noted in the AP story, Springsteen has just been announced to play at Rogers Centre on Aug. 24, which falls directly in the midst of the third weekend of the preseason schedule -- and, as it turns out, a day before the Bills host the Steelers. jw
  12. last post in this thread, repeating the first post i made in this thread, see underlined.
  13. really, you're going to argue about when it happened, and how it happened. he was hit in the knee in which he injured. he attempted to come back. his knee, the same knee, gave out without it being hit on the very next play. no, he shouldn't have come back. and, come to think of it, i'm not directing blame on anyone here. nor am i defending or contending what Berry has suggested. if you read my initial post, mr. argumentative, i was responding to the poster who wondered why the Bills would target Berry and not Brady. well, i seem to recall, i wrote that Berry -- while no Brady -- does play a big role in the Chiefs defense. and you come up and throw in this sidebar, as if to make some point. and me, foolishly enough, bite on it. jw
  14. not entirely true. he limped off the field and, on his next play back, his leg essentially gave out on him. he went down without being touched, as i recall. to suggest there is no correlation is questionable at best. jw
  15. not saying i agree with Berry's suggestion or not because it's unclear as to how serious he is about his allegation. i will note recalling how the game's complexion certainly did change in the Bills favor when Berry left. and his injury certainly did lead in part to the Chiefs early season struggles. Eric Berry might not be Tom Brady, but Berry is a difference-maker in the Chiefs' defense. jw
  16. to each their own. i like getting CBC on TWC, as well as their on-demand stuff. and, unlike some tv providers, TWC doesn't charge to have in-home repairs. ... jw
  17. i've refused to switch carriers, sticking with Time Warner, even during the MSG dispute. the grass, i see, is no greener on the other side, and there will always be some kind of dispute with some type of provider that will lead to a station being taken off the air. let's say you left Dish because of their dispute with MSG and went to Time Warner. well, the trouble eventually caught up to you there. and i pay no heed to a multi-billion corporation urging me to switch because in these disputes i find both parties to be at fault, and usually it's the network that's making a cash grab. in fact, since LIN's dispute with Time Warner that knocked WIVB off cable a few years back, i've made it a point not to return to watch their newscast. that, to me, was the best form of protest i could provide. and then there are the other consequences of making a switch, which i discovered last month. headed to a bar to watch the Bona women's first-round game last month. the bar, like many in town, had made the switch to Direct-TV in order to get the Sabres games. well, lo and behold, no more than 5 minutes into the Bona game, ESPN had switched over to Baylor, because apparently, there was no regional broadcast agreement in place with ESPN and Direct TV or someone at Direct TV forgot to make the switch. i'm told there were many people here unhappy with that. i didn't wait around to see what might happen and instead called home, and had my wife check to see what women's game ESPN was broadcasting on TWC. well, it turned out to be the Bona game. so up my friend and i got, and headed home to watch the game there. the bar wasn't happy to lose business, but them's the breaks. if i don't have NFL Network, well, to me, that's partially the NFL Network's fault. and i have no real desire to watch Redskins-Jaguars, Chiefs-Cardinals, Browns-Panthers game on a thursday night, which is usually what's on. and if it turns out to be a Bills away game or a game of merit, as was the Patriots finale a few years back, it somehow winds up being broadcast on regular TV. jw
  18. i did. thanks for noticing. jw been a while since my ukranian school days. all i got was the last word, "journalist." otherwise, i'm little lost on the rest. jw
  19. seriously? sign me up, komrad. jw
  20. the charge is justified. anyone discounting that fact is dim and obtuse. jw
  21. i heard about this study a while back, while it was being conducted, and four of the five people behind it were sure it was going to fail: huh, go figure. jw
  22. great, another empty shirt. aren't Bills fans tired of this? jw
  23. unlikely the Bills could land a Super Bowl due to lack of adequate hotel room space in town, which makes it a big non-starter for the NFL. one option would be to put up some people in Niagara Falls, Ontario, but that's an awkward fit at best, given time for travel and border concerns. in related news to stadium proposal: -- still no new Peace Bridge. -- downtown casino plans "might" be moving forward ... maybe, possibly. -- whatever happened to talk of the folks across the border and their plans to build a NASCAR track. -- the Adelphia Tower. jw
  24. It all depends on what you want to get into. -- If you're into music, check to see who's playing at the Horseshoe Tavern at Queen and Spadina. -- If you're into Italian food, try out a couple of restaurants in Little Italy -- take the street car west on College, and it starts around Bathurst. -- The bars are overpriced, and way to fancy for my liking -- many look like they're fashioned after something out of a mall -- but if you're looking for sports bars, Hoops, which is now a chain, isn't bad. There's a great Irish Pub, PJ O'Brien's on 39 Colborne, it's a little hard to find and was a little pricey if I recall, but not bad. There's also a place called Betty's on King Street West -- it's not walking distance, but it's a pretty cool joint that earned its name because it was once the site of the Betty Ford Clinic. Another good place is the Upfront on Front Street, about 10 blocks east of Yonge. It's a little set back from the road, and a bit of a hike, but it's an honest place to drink, good food and lotsa TVs. -- The Hockey Hall of Fame is worth a look. -- And one my wife and mine favorite places to eat is the Korean Grill House on Queen. You can order all the raw meat you can eat, and sides, for about $20 bucks, and you grill it at your table. Trust me, it's worth it, particularly if you're hungry. -- There's a couple of good Thai places on Yonge, but I can't remember their names. And there's a fine Japanese restaurant that's relatively inexpensive and the food's good, called Toko Bistro. The Eaton Centre is big, but it just a mall. Gretzky's Bar just up the street from Rogers Centre is worth a peek, but I found it expensive. Best breakfast is Cora's, a chain out of Montreal, but very, very good. Avoid pizza pizza unless you're drunk. jw
