one reason for why information is conflicting and slow to get out is because there are currently six teams without coaches. no team at this point wants to tip its hand, and is keeping it's options open, and keeping the other teams at bay. for what it's worth, the Bills have revealed a list of folks they've interviewed. as for what's being thrown out there, i can appreciate it's difficult to keep straight, which is why i've at least try to stay out of most of it in my reporting. that's why i wasn't entirely sure about Marrone interviewing with the Bills until it was actually announced. i do know that the Bills were scheduled to be in Denver today to meet with McCoy. at this point, i can't confirm that that happened. as to what happens next, i don't know. tomorrow is another day. jw

i enjoy what i do for a living, but let's be clear, the job isn't easy, and not all free buffet and glad-handing. this job, like any, has its drawbacks, such as the many nights we stay up like tonight tracking this coaching search. the toll it takes on our loved ones isn't easy, and i'm fortunate to have a very understanding wife, who has put up with having me leave dinner or hurry her out of a mall or theater because "something has come up," or how i've barely seen her over the past two weeks of her holiday break, especially this week, when i've hardly been home, and when i have been, it's been cooped up in my office working the phones or banging the computer. i know, i know, life is tough. and i know it's much tougher for others. and i do consider myself very fortunate. count me as one of the complainers and whiners. i can take that. but note that some of us occasionally complain because of the impact our jobs have on others, especially those who have kids. i don't, so i guess i get off easy that way. my two cents. have at me. jw

as if on cue. ... i won't apologize for being a member of this board, buddy. some people do like it when i link a story or provide a heads up, so that they know something is coming. and it's not as if i do that often. but continue on with this diatribe all you want, lamenting how you started your career in the media and found that it sucked. too bad. i enjoy this job tremendously. i won't apologize for that either. as for you suggesting many of us lack contacts, well: it was the AP that knocked down the story suggesting Reid was 95 percent sure to sign with the Cardinals. there were many locals who knocked down the speculation that the Bills were about to sign Vick, and that a press conference had even been scheduled. i don't know what these investigative pieces you seem to continue to yearn for. it's likely you might have missed some of the work the AP has done on looking into NFL concussions over the past two years. it's likely you might have missed a few pieces i did during Kevin Everett's near-fatal injury. it's likely you missed the pieces i wrote and contributed to involving Vince Young's financial problems. of course, i'll now be accused of being a pompous self-promoter. but it's really no-win with you. so thanks for your support. and please, contact me so that i can repay you all the money you've spent on reading my stories, because it's quite clear they've been a disappointment. such is life. jw

i'd make a joke, but fear that it would be taken the wrong way and wind up adding to the speculation. so, let me just say: no, i have no knowledge of that having occurred. jw

yes and can't share. but let's keep in mind here, how many speculative reports have come up and been proven wrong. one for example, was the report about a year ago, that Buddy had informed the staff that he was stepping down after last year's draft. it took me a few minutes to shoot that one down. and yet, having that didn't necessarily mean this was something to report because nothing had happened, except some report that suggested that it was going to. you can't imagine how much time we here in the business spend attempting to verify rumors only to find out that they're off base if not wrong. jw the AP is not the only one. when The Buffalo News reports something -- such as the lease deal or Mark beating everyone on the Gailey to be hired scoop -- you can take that to the bank. can't stress enough how difficult it is to wade through speculation and rumors, especially at this time of year. i'll report something when i'm confident i have it. that's all i can promise. jw
