not sure this warrants a response, but if you don't know if the Packers continue to play at multiple stadiums, and are unsure as to whether any other NFL team play in different home venues, well ... geez ... i don't know who would have an answer to these mysteries of life. jw

what is it about posters who deal in sweeping generalities, accusing local media of not writing positive stories about the Bills? it seems to me, some of you posters as a group have no respect for objective reporting. i enjoy reading various well-written pieces that bring in perspective than i do some of the people who post here. yes, you're a fan. however, you've convinced yourself in believing team-employed members of the "media" are allowed to write stories without "special treatments." i don't know if the Bills wanted anyone to write the piece complaining about the schedule, but it fails to raise several points which i've discussed in my posts. i know, being a fan of the Bills for the past 13 years hasn't been all that great. i get that. for once, and actually on numerous occasions, we in the local media have written numerous positive stories on the team that shouldn't make anyone feel like "krap." but when it comes to writing stories and failing to point out the many stumbles, questionable moves, embarrassing losses that have, and to quote Russ Brandon, have left the franchise with a "tarnished reputation," then i'm suggesting you stick with reading the team's website. jw

and yet, they're both fruit. now, i could see your point if it was say,"nuts and gum," "potatoes and petunias," "peaches and pork" or "hogs and moon rocks." now those, you have to admit, have a little bit less in common, and far more open to debating. jw -
funny that i missed this in reading the complaint story the first time. in the middle of it, there's a "related link," offering fans an opportunity to buy tickets for this season. i find this somewhat humorous: Bills shake fist at NFL for unfair schedule (please buy tickets). jw

goofy question, but let's give it a shot: can anyone other than yourself be right? just thinking. jw -
no, but you seem to pick up the bait, given the argument you proceed in proposing a potential conspiracy theory. jw of course there's no knowing this. the point is, there are inherent restrictions to the Bills schedule that are different to other teams given the fact that the Bills are the only NFL team that annually plays a game in another city. and given the fact this is fact, would the Bills have a bigger complaint if they played New England -- not coming off a lengthy break -- in Toronto as opposed to playing New England coming off a lengthy break and hosting Atlanta in Toronto. keep up. jw
-
really, let's go all in then, and suggest that 28 teams can lodge complaints about the relatively easier schedules New England, Miami and the New York Jets have enjoyed for many of the past 12 seasons (note, i wrote 12) for the mere fact they get to play the Bills twice. ... i'm half-kidding only because there is much truth to that. jw

the Bills complaints laid out in the article also conveniently neglect to mention the Bills play a home game in Toronto, in which they prefer to have it played against an NFC opponent. that's all well and good, but had the NFL schedule-maker scheduled, say, New England, to play in Toronto, then the Bills would have one fewer game against a more-rested opponent, no? jw

the Bills franchised him for a reason, fully well knowing this wasn't going to be an easy negotiation. don't know how Byrd suddenly agreeing to take less for whatever purpose enters the equation at this point. Bills are going to have to either come up on money, or down on years. jw -
last year, the Bills had a much better case to stand on. they had a four or five week stretch of games against opponents coming off lengthy breaks AND the back end of the schedule packed with home games. this year, that is not the case. but they proceed to go public in once again voicing their complaints while knowing the NFL schedule maker provided them the gift of having the opportunity to sell more tickets, something that is conveniently omitted in this piece. i wrote about the Bills schedule last year because i felt it was an issue. should i choose to write about it this year, i will most definitely include the fact that the NFL met the team's desire for having fewer home games in the back end. you can't have it both ways. jw

"true, but" doesn't fly. too often emotion plays a role in these debates and i'm leaving that out. the bills don't set the market price and neither, to a certain extent does Byrd. it comes down to what the Bills are willing to pay and what Byrd is willing to accept. that point has not yet been reached. if/and-or-when a deal is done, it's quite likely Byrd will be regarded as being overpaid by safety standards. my point is, it didn't have to come to this. jw -

the Bills had an opportunity a year ago to address this contract issue. Byrd would've been more ameniable to reaching a deal and less steadfast on sticking to a hard number because his "body of work" had not yet been established. the Bills, of course, took the risk of Byrd flaming out last season. still, a little foresight -- as what didn't happen also in the Jason Peters' case -- might have gone a long way in avoiding what's now going on. the Bills will have to come up on their offer. history shows, they usually do in instances like this. jw -
this is pure and unadulterated whining. the Bills have no reason to complain about a schedule that meets numerous franchise needs, particularly one that's back-loaded with games played away from Ralph Wilson Stadium. they spent the past two seasons complaining about how difficult it is to sellout games after Thanksgiving. now that the NFL meets that request, the Bills find another reason to complain. this is the definition of having gall. to get what you wanted and then complain about it. poor, Bills. this does not fly. jw ADD: odd, too, that when it comes to scheduling, the Eastern-based teams/fans' complaints also usually fail to take into account travel and time. take for example this year's Bills' schedule: they travel outside of the Eastern Time Zone twice by my count. their longest road trip is New Orleans, if i'm not mistaken. ... but "oh, the schedule is unfair." gimme a break. the schedule is what it is, providing most each and every team its advantages and disadvantages.
