  1. and the bills are holding out for less money. so which of the two are holding out: both, perhaps. jw
  2. hey, Lori. guess you made it home safe. the sky looked a little dark around time camp wrapped up, so hoping you didn't run into any storms. see you in Canton in a few weeks. i'll be needing that beer, maybe something stronger. jw
  3. guess, this is turning into a bit of a q&a post, but i'm waiting for my wife to call me back as she's out with friends for dinner and i'm sitting here with nothing to do but read this board ... (kidding). to answer your question, keep in mind that the bills are starting training camp early and should Maybin sign by say, Friday, he will have missed no more time than No. 1 pick Matthew Stafford, because that's the day the Lions open camp. so it's somewhat relative. missing a week might mean Maybin will get limited time in HOF game, but he'll still have four more preseason games to catch up on -- same as most rookies. so, i expect Byrd or Wood to be done in next few days (i'm only guessing), and the expectation is that Maybin should be in camp by end of the week. if it runs into the following Monday, then you'll see the media ratchet up intensity. jw
  4. nothing since Friday, when talks had begun. all quiet since. jw
  5. i was, though they made me wait an extra 5 minutes. didn't realize i was going to be on for 15. i like Alex. have dealt with him on numerous occasions. jw
  6. calling an unsigned rookie a holdout puts the onus solely on the player. the player might be "holding out" for money more money, but the team is also "holding out" for less money. they're both holdouts in that sense. that's why most in the business go with "unsigned." jw EDITED.
  7. He has signed a 4-year deal. On his way to camp. jw
  8. zazie: i've discussed with Lori already, and because of the nature of my business when it comes to providing "opinion," and also because i'm sometimes stretched all over the place (covering hockey, hoops and whatever else might come up), i'd prefer not to have a dedicated thread. it's not that i don't like answering questions, i just feel that i might not be able to keep up with it, and that would be unfair to those seeking answers. hope that's ok. jw
  9. thanks for finding it Jamie. jw
  10. story has moved on wire, can't find link yet, but it'll quote the agent, saying the two sides are close to a deal and Levitre could report to camp as early as today. that's why i put "very encouraging" and not "good" news. jw
  11. Folks: Unable to provide details, but look for a Levitre story to move (be filed, posted) on The Associated Press wire shortly. jw EDITS: UPDATES with AP reporting Levitre had signed, citing agent.
  12. With all due respect, PFT seems to be a little off today. First referring to Maybin as a holdout, now raising this speculation, which is very much off base from what I know. jw
  13. Note: Maybin is represented by Chafie Fields/Joel Segal, not Parker, who represents Jairus Byrd. I also take issue with the Pro Football Talk post referencing this to be "a holdout." By definition and by reality it is not. Jason Peters was holding out. Aaron Maybin is unsigned. jw
  14. my hope is not tonight. hitting the sack soon. have been also told not to expect any signings this evening. ... can't provide a link on that, though. jw
  15. for all you Polka fans, has anyone ever figured out who, in fact, stole that damn kishka? jw
  16. stroud called the injury minor -- a tweak. but i'm guessing he'll miss a few days of practice. jw
  17. uh, red, believe what you will. if a link is what you want fine. however, because i had a full plate, i didn't have the time to search for a link in order to back up the post. that said, i knew what i wrote, had it from the player's agent, whom i quoted in my story, and that the story would move shortly. since i'm a member of this board, and enjoy being so, i thought i'd provide as much of a heads up as i could without spilling the beans of my story before it made it to the wire. i hoped that someone in the meantime could find my story on DiGiorgio and post a link. that happened, thanks to Beerball. now, if you don't want me to provide heads-up to pending news, i'll gladly not post. but you seem to be in the utter minority of one, so i'll continue trying to keep this board as informed as i can. if i'm wrong, i'll own up to it. and i think i'd also have bigger concerns if i'm wrong, as i'd have to answer to my bosses as well. so believe what you will. but if you want official, you might be a little late. take the Shawn Nelson signing for example. The Buffalo News and AP had that nearly 18 hours before the Bills confirmed it. ... as for being defensive, i don't think i was in my reply to yours. you simply didn't understand what the word "move" meant, and tried to make some weak joke about it by referencing bowels. ... i tried to set you straight and you accuse me of being defensive. and good job Skoob (providing credit where credit is due). jw
  18. have a t.o. piece to write, so won't have much time for q&a. the bills have been looking for another lb to take over for Ellison, but not sure what they'll be able to get at this point. DiGiorgio's injury might further that search. be interested to see, though, have Bowen and Ashlee Palmer perform in training camp. Bowen's a wild card because he got hurt so early last year in camp, and Bills are high on Palmer. jw gotta run.
  19. buddy, i'm the one who wrote the story that "moved." i knew it was coming because i had just filed it to the AP desk before starting this thread. jw
  20. for those not familiar with the business, a story "moves" on the wire. jw and Dean, no offense taken. it's a tough loss, because i really came to like John. a good, blue-collar kid, and a nice guy.
  21. technically and also professionally, it would be wrong for me to break news anywhere but the company that employs me, so ... but i thought i might give you heads up. jw
  22. digiorgio's out for the season. jw
  23. Look for bad news coming in AP report on why John DiGiorgio is not present at camp. Should move shortly. jw EDIT: UPDATED topic title.
  24. folks, there's a difference between "agreed to" and "signed." i reported "agreed to." anyone reporting that he's signed either was in the room where Nelson signed the contract or is inaccurate. jw
