What ObamaCare might mean for you

right, because the insurance industry has done us so well these past years. c'mon, Joe, when i have to organize a three-way conference call to prove to my HMO that the student doctor working for my covered doctor had, in fact, approved a certain medical procedure and that it should, in fact, be covered ... there's got to be a better way. but of course, this would be "socialism," and the greedheads forced out of business. but you're right, the status quo is really working. me putting a finger up my butt at this point has more potential to curing what's wrong because at the very least, it doesn't require me having to deal with my HMO, which is the last thing i ever want to be dealing with. never mind that's next to impossible to get these people on the phone, but when you do, there's normally some argument that follows. wow, i never realized it's a privilege to pay for frustration in this land, but some masochists must consider this to be part of their inclusion in "the pursuit of happiness." jw -

Tom: as promised, i got to this a little late,l but you're right, the Obama administation is picking up where the Bush administration left off but, really, what choice did it have? then again, the Russians learned their lessons in regards to Afganistan, and yet the Americans (under President Bush) had the naive belief that they could accomplish far more with far less. that's disingenuous, especially, when they made the all to predictable decision to switch gears and open the Iraq campaign. and what truly bugs me is that they left the Canadian forces to hold the bag in Kabul, without backup or any reinforcements. too many good men and women died in Afghanastan because the country was never altogether secured. but you're right in respect to the fact that this goes beyond the Bush administration. It goes back to George I, and Cheney who once spoke out against a full invasion of Iraq, because the consequences were far too dire and that it would draw the U.S. into another quagmire. respectufully, and i mean that sincerely because i do respect your opinions and point of view, i might have a partisan point of view, but i'll say this. George I at the very least had the sense to draw together a true international coalition, as opposed to the son, who brought in poland and not much else. jw -

AP Story on Wood/Byrd From story above: "Byrd played with a groin injury through most of his last collegiate season, and it continued bothering him this spring. The Bills were aware of the injury and suggested the player have an operation when Byrd met with the coaching staff in Buffalo in mid-June. Byrd, however, waited to have the operation about two weeks ago." jw -

but that's not your argument, which seems closer to you punching out someone for peeing on your neighbor's lawn, even though you don't know whether your neighbor gave the leaker in question permission or not. jw -

but that's the box you've put yourself in. by saying you feel America has "a right and duty to lean on states that don't work with" you also requires a certain world view mentality and responsibility that contradicts your point completely. you have argued my case better than i could because you're trying to have both ways: 1) what America does for America shouldn't be questioned. 2) what America does to others shouldn't be questioned. i'm not sure how that can be resolved, and a reason why some international policies have failed due to blind arrogance, and questioned for that same reason. jw -

ah, that's a loaded question as i, in fact, am a canadian living in buffalo. that however doesn't preclude me from having an opinion. and, by your statement, you now preclude yourself by questioning the actions of other nations as they, then, are acting in their own interests. so you can't have it both ways. i think you've boxed yourself in. jw -

and that, sir, is part of the problem, this bull in a china shop mentality in which the U.S. can't sometimes see the world-view implications as a result of what it does or what its policies are elsewhere or here at home for that matter. jw -

well put, DC Tom, i agree with most of the points you make, and will try to get back at this later this evening, but have a busy day ahead, and dealing with a touch of a hangover (hmm, wonder why?), which isn't that bad in this business. jw -

with all due respect, it wasn't until the new administataion's non-confrontational policy on iran that things began moving the other way, and led to the post-election street revolts. as for the economy, there are many who suggest the climate is moving back on the upswing, and crediting the bailout as having a considerable effect. call me a liberal, and that's perhaps, correct, but i'm also in favor of fiscal responsibility, which is something that the right around the world has considerably neglected. and one of the reasons china is calling the shots is due to a considerable amount of deregulation that created a vacuum of economic power here. halliburton, or whatever it's called these days, has won this round. what power it might yet wield moving forward remains to be seen. after all, new orleans is still sinking, and wacka can't dispute that ... jw -

thanks, Boost. i enjoyed the give and take. and Time to Choose, has a right to his/her opinion. as for Wacka, there's no need to be dismissive. just because people have differing opinions doesn't mean they don't have a right to them. how juvenile, though the rush reference seems just about right. jw -

if ms. palin couldn't do so, how could i, and a canadian no less. ok, i'll take a stab: the bush doctrine, the way i see it (and it's as elusive as a palin on why she resigned), is a pre-emptive strike on a nation that supposedly (according only to Colin Powell presentation -- with charts -- at the UN) has weapons of mass destruction and no apparent ties to Al Queda, thus rendering any priority search for Bin Laden as secondary or maybe thirdly. in the meantime, enron is allowed to proceed scott free, and former vice president Cheney is equally allowed to shoot people in the head while hunting. close? jw sorry, couldn't provide proof that you supported it, though that would be irretrivably illogical.
