frazier's been a hot commodity for some time now. and the bills have already addressed the Rooney rule when they met with Perry. he is a good coach, with a solid reputation, who's just missed out on several other jobs over the past few years. am told he might even be the best coordinator candidate out there. ... that remains to be seen, but he's a sure-fire candidate. jw

no one is satisfied with the losing. and your claim that he did nothing is quite debatable. bills went 3-6 under Jauron. with a more banged-up team, bills went 3-4 under Fewell. as for his weak philosophy, it was enough for a pass defense to finish second in the NFL in yards allowed and interceptions. and it happened without a very good linebacking corps, which is something the team, not Fewell, failed to address in the offseason. so, i disagree with your claims. jw

Bill Cowher AND Brian Billick...

how do you know there's been no contact? not saying he's the primary candidate, but ... jw -
and yet, it was the defense that kept the Bills as competitive as they were this season. an inability to stop the run has less to do with scheme and more with talent and injuries. based on what the Bills D went through, it's a credit they won more than 3 games in my opinion. jw

and still no winner. jw

Bill Cowher AND Brian Billick...

other than talking to Bobby April today, nothing much else brewing, but things do change fast in this business and with coaching searches. keeping ear to the ground. as noted in other post, one of the more concrete things i've had put to me is Schottenheimer and Schottenheimer as a potential package deal. it's a little more than speculation, but far less than firm. jw -

How the coaches were let go
Delete This Account replied to zdro22's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
way, way too early. not even sure we have all the candidates assembled yet, but i'll provide this quick list, in no particular order: -- am hearing that Leslie Frazier is a very good candidate for any coaching job. -- this Cowher thing is strange, and seems to sway back and forth between days that end with "D-A-Y." -- is a Schottenheimer times 2 (Marty and Brian) a possibility, well they're both listed in my story today. -- don't have any traction on Billick. -- nothing coming up on Haslett front, which makes me wonder if that's dead in the water. -- the McDermott thing kind of surprised me, don't know why. -- Grimm's intriguing. -- bills need a quarterback. jw -
How the coaches were let go

though the AP backed off a little on the "firing," we still quoted the person familiar with the decisions as saying that the coaches were "fired." jw -
well, i was wondering what Darth would think about being snubbed in that conversation? jw

well, we can always start a rumor that Tressel's a candidate ... jw

sorry, you're right my awkwardly phrased response. was trying to squeeze that response inbetween takes on my T.O. piece today. i think Mr. Wilson knows who Mike Shanahan is. it's my belief that he provided the response that he didn't know anything about him, because it was his best way of saying "no comment" without saying "no comment." anything else -- even a no comment -- might have been construed as him confirming the team's interest, which he didn't want to do. in my opinion, Mr. Wilson was being honest by providing an answer that was open to some interpretation. and, since the bills at that point had not talked to Shanahan, it could have been interpreted as Mr. Wilson saying he doesn't know anything about Shanahan's interest in the Bills nor what interest the Bills might have after speaking to him. it's also likely true they've never met except, perhaps, in passing. that's my take. as for playing cards close to their vest, that's the SOP, as you put it, of many teams. sabres, patriots, ub bulls (on their most recent coaching search) ... i can go on. jw

ain't going anywhere BVet so c'mon lighten up ... jw but thanks for the support.

Linda had a close bond with Mr. Wilson, and her passing was difficult, as it would be for any father. as for what role she played, i can't really tell. the inner workings of the bills have been very difficult to judge this decade, and particularly after Donahoe's reign. what i can say is the Mr. Wilson has the final say over his team, and all major decisions, signings go through him. i would suggest that Jim Overdorf has had much control over the roster over the past four seasons. jw

1. debatable. 2. speculation, unless of course Mr. Wilson told you himself he had no clue. 3. it was in the story that Mr. Wilson intended to add Modrak into the inner circle. as for who's in that circle, if you don't know, you aren't part of it. jw

i'd suggest you not get in the middle of this silly ongoing personal tit for tat i've got going with a certain other poster. ... but since you're not willing to take a paycut, then i'm relieved to know that our ranks in the business won't swell any time soon. jw
