what has this club down right this century?

and let's not forget failing to sign michael vick or hire bill cowher, and build a new stadium, and have jerry jones buy the team, and transform buffalo into some kind of economic mecca like, say, seattle, and the failure of building a new peace bridge, and building a dome atop the entire city to make the winters more bearable, and handing every resident a $5,000 check every month, and the failure to draft peyton manning and losing drury and briere on the same day, and miller's inability to win a gold medal and swine flu (well, someone's gotta get blamed for that, so why not us) and sneezing and the time i stubbed my toe and disco and the goo goo dolls ripping off the Replacements and ... jw -
right got me, by bringing up a franchise with a win at all costs arrogance that just about makes rooting for any other team a moot point and joyless. good one. got me. touche. and how you expect the same from the bills is beyond me. the disconnect from your reality is quite blurred in this case, and certainly explains why your expectations for spending are quite delusional when it comes to the bills. i'm not saying the bills couldn't spend more. but if this is the point you want to make by making the yankees the model of sports, well have fun with that. jw

actually, t, pete's been pretty consistent in all of his posts. from a few glimpses, i've gleaned that pete is unhappy with the team to a somewhat strong degree. but i might be paraphrasing here. jw

well put. i'm not discounting the Bills questionable drafting record, but it's not been ALL bad. there have been reaches and questionable picks to say the least. i'm not discounting that. however, my point is that the Bills compounded their problems by not -- mostly during Tom Donahoe's era -- of failing to shore up their O-line, and for some whimsical reason that's beyond me, failing to re-sign Pat Williams, a move that set back the defense for two years (the Larry Tripplett years). also, there have been questionable decisions in regards to quarterback, which have also hampered the team's progress. the draft is a factor, but one factor in a myriad of troubles. head-coaching hires can be added to that list. jw

THE BROHM THE BROHM THE BROHM

Fun is one thing, but to use my name under that type of post is another. Again, there is no press conference that I know of happening here. jw ADD: and to the moderators and 5 Wide, i do believe that 5 Wide's post was meant to be harmless and an innocent mistake, so I do not take offense to what just happened. it's just important to note that posters should be careful in knowing that posting something under my name -- or anyone else's for that matter -- is a giant step over the line. -

HEY, I did not write that. And I don't know how that is credited under my name. There is no press conference. Please, delete that, because I do not find that at all amusing. John Wawrow. ADD: Thank you. -

Top 5 Rock Guitar Solos Of All Time

you might be right, but i had a Who song banging through my IPod this past week which had me doing the windmill riffs on my air guitar, which is getting old, but hasn't played a bad note since my teen years. maybe it's his riffs that i remember. (i'm getting old, too). jw -
say what you will about the draft. it's easy to knock it, because crapshoots are never easy, especially when a team's drafting mostly outside the top 5. in the end, though, what's glaringly obvious to me having covered this team for 10 years is how the Bills, for the most part, failed to address their offensive line, made the wrong decision in failing to re-sign Pat Williams and, most of all, have utterly failed in identifying a franchise quarterback. i simply don't buy into this kneejerk reaction that the draft has done the team in. it hasn't helped, though it hasn't been all that bad, but it isn't the sole reason either, in my humble opinion, jw

-- always liked Brian May on "Tie Your Mother Down." -- very under-rated solo is Lindsey Buckingham at the end of "Go Your Own Way." it's a solo that brilliantly catches the theme of the song. -- John Hiatt's solo on the ultra-great song "Ethylene" kicks butt, which is why it ranks as one of my all-time go-to songs. -- whoever does the solo on Black Crowes' "Hotel Illness." -- and having difficulty choosing one Pete Townsend solo. jw -
nice. thanks for playing. jw

one point, i'd like to make. though there were many -- very many -- people wearing canadian colors, there were also some (not as many) wearing the official vancouver olympics garb (no maple leaves, just olympic rings and the Vancouver Games rock-man logo) that was also on sale at local shops, including the bay. it should also be noted that the thousands -- 10s of thousands? -- of olympic volunteers, wore light blue jackets that merely had the olympic rings on the back and the vancouver games printed on the front. what comparisons some people make, i shall leave that open to others to discuss. jw -

well, let's start with the part with where i was somehow "wrong." as for my apparent insinuations, i'll let you know what i'm thinking with the words i write. that way, it'll relieve you of having to stretch your imagination beyond whatever certain delusions you may hold. try loosening the grip for just a second. jw -
