it got you to 48. jw -
with all due respect, i think you missed the mark on your comparison. because SNF is a pop album, while London Calling essentially wasn't, when using loose definitions. (ADD: and i apologize for missing your reference to this being an unfair analogy, but the basis of my point is not to knock you, but simply to further the discussion). the trouble, in my opinion, is that both Appetite and Nevermind marked the end of the hair-metal era to a certain degree, because both bands had punk influences, but just showed them in different ways. Guns took the hair band sound to a more complex sound, in part because they had a great guitar player in Slash, and soundly based song-writing skills. Nevermind made a mockery of the hair-metal bands. both, however, shifted the musical landscape at the same time, unlike SNF and London Calling, which sparked certain shifts, but not in the same era. a better example might be "Tommy" and "Sticky Fingers," perhaps. (all that said, i would argue that Metallica's Enter Sandman/Black album was far more influential to heavy metal rock -- and rock in general -- than anything Guns put out. and i do not mean offense to Guns N' Roses fans. i've seen both live, and enjoyed both shows.) in the end, i voted for Nevermind, because i believe it further carried the punk rock torch, connecting the 70s to the 90s, by building on the tried and trusted finger-in-the-air angst music i like should stand for. and of course, Nirvana stole the title for their album from The Replacements (true story). jw

and finally, rather than starting a new thread, because that's all that people do here when a splinter of a thought jumps into their head, something struck me when reading through all the speculative posts that have come out of late. (as opposed to all the speculative posts that came out last summer when the bills were supposed to land Michael Vick; or the speculative posts that came out from November-January in regards to the bills landing Cowher; or the normal speculative posts that have the bills packing up and moving to toronto and l.a.) but i digress. the splinter of a thought that struck me this evening was this: given how everyone has just about traded the entire bills roster for second-round picks this draft, i'm wondering if any other team will have any second-rounders left at this point? and of course knowing some people on this board, most if not all the bills selections will be criticized as reaches. just a thought. jw -

things can change, but at this point he's content to make it Buffalo or retirement. i don't think he'd want to go through the hassle of making a trade demand. and i think he's aware that the bills have a place for him on their roster if he wants to come back. i also think there's a sense of loyalty. of course, the texans would also have to want him. as i've noted, he marches to his own beat. jw -

i've heard and read rumors and speculation. anyone, aside from Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey and a select few, who claim to have answers are fooling in my humble opinion. jw -

hey KFBD, how you been? i agree to a certain degree. the thing with Schobel is that he marches to his own drum and lives in his own bubble. when i spoke to him before heading to vancouver, he had no idea the Winter Olympics were even happening, never mind where. the one thing that's inspiring him to come back is his performance last year. he, to a degree, surprised himself by playing as well as he did. he has often said he doesn't want to play past his time, and there was a fear entering last year that he had lost more than a step. he is a family man, and keen on developing that relationship further on a year-round basis. i do think, he also enjoys being around the guys in the room. all that said, i think the fact that he's waited this long, means he'll come back. the way he talked last september, he was all but one and done. jw -
Tim Graham article on Dolphins QB situation

how are you so sure? given Pennington's injury history, there's no guarantee he'll make it through minicamps. as for Pat White, well, really? given the fact he's yet to complete a pass doesn't exactly make him a roster lock. sounds to me the Dolphins are keeping their options open. not to say that your theory isn't plausible, but it's a little rickety. another take might be, the Dolphins signed Pennington because they're losing confidence in White ... or sending White a message. jw -

not really. he's been on the fence on last year being his last season since september. 3-4/4-3 has not really come up as an issue. jw -

it'll be noted in latest version that Schobel has previously stated that he'll either play for the Bills this season or retire. he's all but entirely ruled out being traded. as for reading anything into Schobel's intentions over wanting or not wanting $2 million, don't go too far. he still hasn't made up his mind and doesn't see a need to collect the money if he'll simply have to pay it back. my guess, and this is strictly a guess, is that Schobel will be back for one more year, but he might not show up until maybe the mandatory spring camp. we'll see. jw -
