Favorite Pizzerias in WNY
Delete This Account replied to Buffalo716's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Not far enough. Best pizza in town: 1) Imperial 2) La Nova. 3) Bocce Of note, there were some references here to Casa, formerly on Elmwood. It closed after a food poisoning issue and have since maintained their new location downtown just off Main. jw -
Not fair. Jerry wrote IF an investigation found that Richie made a racial slur, as was alleged, that he should be cut. jw ADD: Of note, NFL tells AP that the matter is still being reviewed.

i also enjoy Kim Mitchell's work on, yes, The Barenaked Ladies: "Wind It Up" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGvRWVF6P3k But among the all-time best work happens to happen on this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CGLneL5LR4 jw

not exactly my favorite, but it's up there for being resonant, keeping with the song and generally under-stated and under-rated, and why i think this guy ranks as one of rock's best musicians. Lindsey Buckingham closing "Go Your Own Way." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ul-cZyuYq4 jw

Bon Jovi on Howard Stern Talking Buffalo Bills
Delete This Account replied to K D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
noted in a tweet a few days ago. the horse race track on the east waterfront was one. a site in mississauga was another. and for some reason I can't recall the third site. all three would have to be developed and likely rely on some government assistance, though, there was talk that the provincial government was willing to offer race-track site to group for $1 in exchange for the group to develop the property into a stadium/patriots-place-type entertainment/shopping complex. jw -
I think, nay, demand that I get my wings for free. And it should be a double order of whichever ones I prefer. And I want them now. Crispy, of course. The entitled crowd that has ruined modern music by claiming "ownership" demanding it be free has moved on to wah-wahing about having to pay to read something they should've been paying for from the start of the internet. As if information gathering doesn't require work or resources, or informed professionals should somehow work for pennies. How pathetic. Perhaps, mommy or daddy can tie up your diapers. Don't like it. Don't buy it. Go to some fan-site and get all your information for free, because after all, Michael Vick is always a few posts away from someone's cousins, brother's gardener from being spotted at the airport. Want proof the Buffalo News has an influence? How many Jerry Sullivan posts pop up here on a weekly basis complaining about one thing or another. For some folks who don't read him, his columns sure do get around. But of course my take is typical, because work in the business and newspapers are supposedly dying. Well, here's a way newspapers are not. It'll cost you. As it should. I don't work for free. You shouldn't have to either. The thought of that is preposterous. jw pure and unfiltered baloney. here you are telling me, through your post, how to think. and this bs about mainstream media, a crutch of a phrase used by the narrow-minded who don't have the capacity, patience or literate skills to evaluate a topic from different points of view. the truth is beyond you.

Manuel was not given the chance to grow

I enjoyed dealing with EJ and found him to be a standup guy. Though he was dealt a tough break by being thrust into action when Kolb went down with season-ending concussion, this narrative of him not being given time to develop is also a little convenient. He was inconsistent at best, and had difficulty with accuracy and decision-making from the get-go. That did not improve over time. Ultimately, it's the Bills fault for taking a gamble on a player in a very weak QB draft class, a mistake which they compounded by trading away another first-round pick to select Watkins. On the bright side, this past draft was handled proficiently in which gambles were minimized and assets used to address long- and short-term needs. jw -

Changes coming to Bills front office?

There were no parameters. Answers were required. That the Bills elected to trot out Anthony Lynn at that time, is a reflection on the team and Whaley rather than the media. jw -

Since there was no one else there to answer questions, among the questions that needed to be answered was who made the decision to bench Tyrod Taylor. Lynn essentially answered the question by saying he wasn't in the room when that decision was made. Obviously, the follow up questions were whether he was OK with that and what his thoughts were moving forward with EJ Manuel and/or Cardale. And obviously, there were numerous follow up questions on QB, since there were injury questions involved and questions about Tyrod's future. The questions presented Anthony weren't done in a vacuum, they were merely to get at what Lynn knew to be the truth. It's also quite clear that Lynn was unhappy to be placed into that position and left to dangle because the GM -- whom numerous asked to speak to -- declined all interview requests. Had Whaley deemed to make himself available and not spend the practice period open to the media hiding in the off-limits weight-room area, then Lynn and the Bills would not be placed in a decision to be exposed to what occurred. Otherwise, Lynn was not pestered about who fired Rex. jw -

I can't speak for others. I'm trained to get the facts directly by talking to people whom I trust and not merely rushing out and citing others, who are using unnamed sources. This doesn't mean I ignore the reports or doubt them. It's my job to get to the truth, and that's what I do. If all I did was quote Schefter, Rappaport or LaCanfora then what would be the purpose of me covering the Bills? jw If you say so. I wasn't angry at Lynn, so you're wrong in blaming all media. jw -

What? Treat Anthony? We felt bad Lynn was forced into a position of answering questions that needed to be asked but couldn't directly answer because 1) he was prepping for a game. 2) the decisions were made above his head. 3) he was in the running for the job. Silly to blame the media for the front-office's own failures. jw -

It was time to make a change. And I'm glad Scott has gotten a chance to get off the grind of the treadmill he's been on. His job wasn't an easy one, never mind doing it for some three decades, and he now gets to spend more time with his family. I've always had respect for him, and will always wish him the best. jw -

One last thing: Some people here think I have the answers to everything or that I'm holding back on information. I have some answers and ideas. But I refuse to speculate. To suggest that I'm holding back on Whaley being gone is absolute baloney. If I have that information, I would most certainly report it. I don't. jw -

The news conference was not Scott's fault. In fact, Pegula Sports and Entertainment chief spokesman Mark Preisler was also in attendance. There was very little that could have been done to save Whaley from himself on that day. Anyone interjecting from the BIlls side would've essentially been throwing fuel on this tire fire, in my opinion. What's astounding is that I'm told that Whaley was prepped beforehand. jw -

I'll weigh in on saying Bills upper management was and remains unhappy with Whaley's lack of clarity during the press conference in what was considered a train-wreck from league-wide NFL people. It was an absolute embarrassment, and the only reason both Terry and Kim Pegula were made available to the AP and WGR not long after the news conference ended. I did make a request to speak to both Terry and Kim immediately after the news conference because much clarity was needed. The fact that Terry called me within 15 minutes of my text was surprising. It was also an indication that the Bills went to Plan B and felt there was need for much clarification after Whaley revealed nothing and raised more question than answers. It was a low point in Whaley's tenure, and much of it brought upon himself because he declined interview requests throughout the season except to speak briefly on Percy Harvin's signing, during which the questions were strictly limited to Percy. Any astute manager should know that there was plenty of tension built up over such a lengthy period of time involving a variety of issues -- Rex's future and eventual firing/Lynn's promotion/Tyrod's benching/Tyrod's long-term future that it would take a skilled person to address those issues head on. Instead, we the media and Bills fans by extension were fed a lot of "I'm not privy to that" answers. Well, if Whaley wasn't privy to these things, then it begged Bucky's question as to what in fact he does. Whaley was put out there to speak for ownership. That ownership had to scramble to the rescue reflected poorly on the GM. No, GMs aren't judged on press conference's alone. In this case, the exception was the rule, leading to many inside 1BillsDrive to question Whaley's ability. jw -
